I will never fall in love with a manager again like i did with Tuchel . He stuck with us during our hardships and we just ditched him when he was in a bad phase . I'll support Potter and get behind him but the loss of Tuchel as our manager will sting me for a long time . He's forever engraved in Chelsea history and will always be loved and welcomed by Chelsea faithful and i hope wherever he goes he's happy and always winning . Our Deutscher Maestro ❤️

Nothing wrong in loving a manager like Tuchel tbh. Let's be honest. He was the first guy to have a genuine connection with us Chelsea fans since the 2nd coming of Jose Mourinho. We'll never forget what he did for us. He'll always be one of us forever. But definitely we need to move on. I hope Potter can do something well. I'm not expecting anything great from him but let's see how it goes

I agree with your sentiment that the sacking is a bit harsh on Tuchel, but at the end of the day it seems like a move to match Boehly's new vision rather than pure displeasure with Tuchel. Boehly's commitment to a long term vision is backed up by the 5 year deal he gave to Potter and the nearly quarter of a billion pounds he spent in August alone. If you're spending that sort of money of players, you have to be 100% behind the stewardship of the squad and given how Tuchel has handled his forwards over the past few seasons, I dont blame Boehly for doubting Tuchel going forward.

Exactly. In any other circumstance it would feel like a ridiculous sacking. And while it still feels harsh to not give Tuchel another chance, I can at least see the rationale behind Boehly & Clearlake's decision (down to many of the things you mentioned).

Without any disrespect to Thomas Tuchel, he hasn't been a long term manager arguably anywhere he's managed. Boehly wants a long term vision and tuchel's career doesn't suggest tuchel is the one.
And moreover, Tuchel hasn't been able to make Pulisic, Ziyech, Werner, Lukaku, Havertz(probably),etc. It does feel like a sensible move from Chelsea.

  • @Zanchcrow

Ultimately I believe the owners simply wanted a manager that they felt were aligned with their vision and work style, which unfortunately Tuchel did not embody.
Such a decision is actually not as rare as it might seem, when a club hires a new head coach, the head coach typically brings along a bunch of close colleagues - coaches, scouts, analysts, and clearly these people had to take the position of an existing employee. So a change in personnel after new management takes over is really not all that surprising or uncommon at any level.

Them firing Tuchel I’ve come to accept that it wasn’t tactical or results based really, it was just the new owners asserting themselves and wanting their own guy. Problem is that they’ve mistreated him, their actions seem counterintuitive. You can’t spend £300m and give these long contracts to Auba, Koulibaly, Sterling and say it’s about the long term. You can’t go into the season without having the DOF in place and then fire the coach shortly after the window and then hire another coach to now give him the influence of who will now become Dof. Everything is just scatter shot.

The problem is NOT sacking Tuchel....The problem is the TIMING of such important move...Why didn't Boehly sack him ahead of the new season So the manager can ask for specific players DURING The Important Summer Window ? For instance someone like Aubaymeyang agreed to join Chelsea mostly for Tuchel and how he enjoyed working with him at Dortmund a few years ago...Why also putting Brighton's own season in jeopardy by getting the one person that made them so good the past years at the start of September instead of the start of June, July or even August ? That's my big issue here....And like him or not Tuchel came into a Chelsea team which was in total shambles in Jan '21 and turned them into not only a Top 4 Side BUT Also WON A very competitive Champions League where he got to ouminded and outcoach both Real Madrid (Zidane) & Manchester City (Guardiola) in what was one of the most brillant comeback stories ever...

I think TT was never going to be the right man to change Chelsea into a youth factory whereas Potter will support the idea. I like Tuchel, I think he'll have no shortage of suitors and will get another top job. The results were there in 2021 but 2022 has been kind of mediocre as you mentioned. Chelsea ended 21-22 season in poor form and lost to teams like Brentford and Everton who were in relegation scraps. If the season was a few weeks longer they likely would have ceded the 3rd spot to Spurs or Arsenal. Combine that with the up and down start to this season and the loss to Dinamo Zagreb was the final straw.
A sizable failure during his time was the attack. A coach needs to create the best atmosphere for his strikers to succeed and he didn't do that. The Lukaku situation was a major negative during his time at Chelsea. I'm 100% sure you can't blame Lukaku's struggles exclusively on Tuchel but he needed to get more out of him, one way or another. Werner and Pulisic were capable of more than what they produced, as well. Again, it's hard to completely blame Tuchel for the attacking woes, the players needed to step up and score with the chances they've got.
The defence got worse further into his tenure as well. Losing Rudiger and Christensen is tough. I'm not sold on Koulibaly and Fofana. The former makes too many mistakes and the latter... well remember the last time a big club spent big money to buy a Leicester defender (Maguire?)

I don't think it was deserved. I figure you either say at the end of last season we have a seperate plan we wanta new manager and new structure etc and you bring in potter to handle pre season and get players that will be part of the future OR you give tuchel a truncated spending at let him know this is his last season if he wants to stay because we are taking the club in a new direction from next season onwards .

The postponement of this weekends fixtures as a result of the queens death could help Potter and Chelsea to get settled and start that work on the training ground.
Then they have a home champions league match which they will be big favourites to win. If they do pick up the three points, then the confidence will grow.

You would think that they would have waited longer to see if the team turned things around. They hadn't buried themselves yet. Also, you'd think they might have waited till year's end to snare Potter. However, the cost of not making the top five and getting eliminated in the group stage of Champions' League does force your hand somewhat.

Like most others, Tuchel being dismissed was a shock in the moment - but I cannot say it is all that surprising in hindsight. This situation reminds me a lot of the Pochettino sacking at Spurs. Sure, previous success should have probably given each manager more time to turn things around, but both clubs had been going through a period of bad form that stretched for nearly a year - for Poch the CL run paved over the cracks while Tuchel had the cups.

      couldnt agree more.
honestly, I think Poc lost the players respect when he specifically stated he "cant rely on sentiment" when choosing who to play in the final vs LFC, then did exactly that by playing a still recovering Kane over Moura who *literally* got them in the final.
I noticed a HUGE drop in the team morale as a whole when next season started and it showed in the results.
if Poc had played Moura, chances are good Spurs would have won that match considering how poorly LFC showed.

I feel, just like Newcastle got a new manager in after the change in ownership (but far more justified then Chelsea's), the second new owners come in they want to move away from the past owners as they want it to be their club so the second they are given a reason to sack the manager they will. Any success with Tuchel would not quite be theirs but with a manager they picked it would.

Honestly, regardless of Boehly’s plans, I’m not too unhappy with Tuchel’s sacking. That champions league run was special, but so was Leicester’s title win. Sometimes there are lightning in a bottle times in football but clearly that magic didn’t last. We have been out of form since Chilwell tore his ACL. I appreciate Tuchel sticking by us through the sanctions, but what matters are the results on the pitch. Potter’s Brighton are 3 points ahead of us with no major names. The opportunity to get him is one I wouldn’t pass up and I’m optimistic. I understand why a lot of Chelsea fans adore Tuchel, and I agree, this was not the way to sack him but I think it was better to rip the bandaid now. Who knows where we would be in December without a major change.

Boehly knew he was hiring Potter for awhile now and he knew Potter would need time and therefore likely not get top 4 right away. Especially had he not spent this window, top 4 would’ve been borderline impossible. It was better to spend this window while having UCL football to offer than it would be to wait until next summer and not have that available. Would they really be able to get better players than they got this window without UCL football?

My rational side says it is understandable insofar as there is a new owner who may simply follow a different vision and strategy and getting a fitting trainer is an important part in this regard.
My irrational side says that TT stood by the club when everything seemed to crumble and not only kept this going strongly when many less talented trainers would have ended midtable, but also won (and nearly won) siilverware. Plus he represented the club with dignity and navigated through the tough times. This irrational side would be happy if the team finished outside the top six due to the sacking.

I guess Tuchel thinks he can turn any group of players into an amazing squad regardless of the quality of a player🤷‍♂️ I feel like it would only make coaching more difficult as there are definitely different levels of quality within professional football. Imagine the owners decide to buy some of the worst players around. What then? Could tuchel really turn them great? Idk 🤷‍♂️ as I said I think it’s a weird ideology

I'm sure the board didn't hate him but it looked like only the veteran players like Thiago and Azpillicueta were left that trusted tuchel, the test seemed to give up like a bunch of children.
It's sort of kinda like Solskjaer? He lost the dressing room as well albeit because the squad were literal manchildren. This one was probably just due to luck.

Lack of loyalty but that's how Chelsea roll. That's the same way he got his job (sacking of a Chelsea legend who helped Chelsea rebuild after transfer ban), and the same way is how he left (won them a CL and stuck with them under the Chelsea Russia ban). I think as long as Chelsea can replace Mendy, the same way they replaced Kepa they will achieve success.

This is such a weird situation. On one hand it seems cruel to sack tuchel given all he’s done, had to go through and the loyalty he showed the club. On the other hand, rather than taking it in stride, he found every reason to complain in public and iced out a large portion of the squad which led to a terrible environment. Left with these two things, it feels awful he was let go but also he should’ve just kept quiet, got to work for the year and hoped next summer would’ve been better as far as recruiting goes. Can’t say I blame boehly ultimately. 🤷‍♂️
