I don't know about England but here in Australia people stop spending before and immediately after a Federal election. It recovers slowly starting after a month. I hope this is the case for you.

Prices of cars have gone through the roof, insurance costs have doubled and vehicle excise duty goes up beyond the inflation rate every year. Imposition of unnecessary 20mph speed limits, speed humps and pot holes, not to mention costs of maintenance and repair - so where is the pleasure in motoring any more? Only people who have an absolute necessity of using a car to get to work can now find it worth their while, unless of course they are very well heeled and can afford these price increases. No wonder the market is flat - it is self inflicted by the "powers that be"!!

I grew up in the garage trade, I remember way back when we had similar period and my old man was really fed up… Then, out of nowhere after three weeks of bugger all we sold six cars in two days including one which had been with us forever and had had a fortune spent on it. If it was easy,everyone would be doing it!
I’m in the trade. Two points never buy Meriva’s second just give the Polish guy back his money and tell him to go away. Save yourself all the grief. When I started in the trade 50 years ago I was told by an old hand when certain customers come on your pitch give them £5 and tell them to go away it will save you a fortune in time and grief.

It’s the same situation for us in Devon mate, no walk ins, few appointments and lots of time wasters currently. But…it’s normally a bit rubbish in July /August so we are going on holiday for a couple of weeks! It will pick up soon buddy, keep the faith
Problems with the language barrier reminds me of what a mate told me regarding an Eastern European think he was Hungarian. Breaking up for Xmas this chap is told no we are closed for 3 days or whatever , he was told over & over you can't we are closed Xmas , chap kept saying me work tomorrow no were closed that's why we're finishing early today tomorrow is Xmas day , " no me work " it wouldn't sink in. Regardless they break up. When they come back the chap doesn't say anything. They find out through security be had turned up every day while they were off lol. My mate said after all the problems he was set on , but after say 6 months it got so bad he was given a warning about the language barrier and the bloke practically learnt fluent English within weeks. Thats great info on the Clio oil cap residue Lee. Daughter bought a 1.2 Clio few weeks ago. I noticed that issue too, my first thought was its a head gasket, but a sniffer test was ok. So I was scratching my head. You have put my mind at ease now on this common issue on the 1.2 👍
My father had a 2010 Clio 1.2, which my son then had after dad passed away. It always had a smear of mayonnaise like gloop under the oil filler cap because it was used mainly for short journeys. I just used to wipe it away every time I checked the car over.

I'm in the market for a seond hand car, went round to a few local places to me (UK). Found a car, nice car, albeit overpriced tried to negioate price and told a flat no the price is the price and promptly walked off.
Yep, there seems to be no negotiation anymore - I want to feel like I'm getting a good deal when I buy a car - paying the screen price is never a good deal.
Might be worth a try, but, put the cars on display at a slight angle facing the road, they'll look much better for passing trade, and you won't actually loose that much space either. Nip down the local garden centre and get half a dozen hanging baskets and put them up. Honestly, a tidy site will give more curb appeal and what have you got to loose!
Come on people if you need a used vehicle at a fair price with great customer service then get down to Lee and see if he can sort something out for you.

Business seems quiet in general at the moment. I'm a tradesman, and expect it to be quieter at this time of year, but it's the quietest I've known it for 10 years. One merchant I use says its been quieter since January! I've never known it not get mad busy in September though, so here's hoping.

6 year old Corsa is expensive what 20 year old has 8 to 10k in the bank at least that's what they are priced at here in Hampshire. My mum bought a 2010 brand new Hyundai i10 for less than 10k I'm looking at the £2500-£3000 mark cars and they are around 12 to 20 years old No sensible person is paying a bank 7%+ interest rates with crippling monthly payments for 4 years. Then have to somehow maintain it also. Be great if Dealers could offer 0% deals then they would sell loads more.
Since covid second hand cars (cars in general) but especially second hand cars are far too expensive. Way over priced. People are just fixing their cars and putting off getting something new. Cost of living is making it unaffordable too.

We have a citreon ds3 and we get mayo on the oil cap but the gasket is fine 3yrs we've had that car never had an issue with the head gasket so if you ever get one of them cars they do the same
Another problem i found is laon companies won't give you a loan on a car older than ten years. The company i went to said everything i looked at was too old, 2010? So we have been saving up..

SUVs don’t sell well in July, it’s sporty and convertible season atm. Cars are quite seasonal so stock needs to tweak a little. Also people spending on holidays atm. The Qashqai will sell late August/ early September. School run car.

Used to able to get those Corsa steering columns for not much second hand. Guess that’s not the case now?
