Yup, I needed 8 tracks for this song and don’t have 8 motors. Some of my songs have even more tracks, but I think it’s more appealing if they have fewer
@All-Out Alex it is sort of a joke. Memetically, "potato-vision" refers to particularly low-resolution or generally poor quality video playback. My device is an older one (circa 2014) and depending on signal strength, video playback isn't always great.
With the way that steppers naturally sound matching some elements so well I would say that trying out "Reconstructing Science" (Portal 2 ost) would be absolutely phenomenal.
I think what makes this very satisfying to some people is that they see a very complex mechanism yet by paying attention to it's workings one can innately understand how it works.
maybe it was me growing up in the 80s with a nes, but this makes an average song so awesome. love the tones of these things! its like a really hard saw wave
Sort of sounds like Toxic being played on an Accordion and/or bagpipes. I don't have a problem with that, but it makes me wonder what a song meant for accordions or bagpipes would sound like on this?
I've just come across your videos and love every single one of them. To answer the question, I think having the motors bidirectional makes the video that more satisfying!
WHAT! This is so amazing. I'm still trying to find out how this works but I can't wait for one of my favorite rappers to find this person. This is the new stuff, for sure
this is like advanced redstone but IRL, a bunch of components being used for something that isn't their original purpose, but works anyways. i love it!
This dude managed to create macroscopic superpositioning and used it to add 4 more musical parts to his composition. Wild Seriously though very cool workaround, and good video
that's cool you made the motors bi directional. I imagine it growing in complexity to where the motors are driving some rube goulberg machine-esque apparatus while playing a song
Wow, this is next gen electronic music!! At the beginning I was thinking that it would be better to have all of the 8 channels live but also the superimposing effect is very very nice... compliment!!!
I really love how you reverse the direction when you can now. Much more information available when viewing - we can see which motors are making which sounds more easily :)
The final boss of the techno kingdom! The motors!! (Final boss) This boss is set in 5 diffrent parts Blue[the fire power] Red[the real power] Yellow[the life line] Green [the leader]
Marble Machine Song would be dope. Also, do you think you can implement a klaxon-style mechanism? Those are the horns that go "aHOOOGA". Technology Connections made a video about those. I bet that you could mount the spinners on the back of the motors with magnets in the spinners.

Nerdy as hell. But i am part of those listening to this so who am I to talk.
Here’s a real challenge: play a song with silent drivers
tmc2130!!
You can, but then it sits sounding like 8 bit and it starts sounding more like actual speakers.
rap god
I guess you could set TMC2130 in full step mode to make noise and dynamically set coil current via SPI to have volume control. Might be fun to try !

Cat: "What is this?"
Stepper Motors: "Bites za dust has already touched these stepper motors!"

Kinda sounds like a pipe organ too.
Now I'm just imagining a pipe organ with different sizes of stepper motors
Big stepper motor
Reminds me of an harpsichord, too…
ok this is one of the best executed mechanical hardware based covers like this or floppotron I've ever seen, legitimately beautiful timbres.
The bidirectionality combined with the layering looks really nice
Also the sound during the chorus is 👌
hmm what's with the shadowed dups?
later:
oh! that's a clever way to make an 8 part stepper band.
I think the bi-directional motors improved this one, more of a personality if you will. liked it!

"Its... its complicated..."
Because its good
I think the tone of these motors is absolutely perfect for the Merry go round from roller coaster tycoon 1 and 2.

I wonder what's wrong to the people that have dislike to this masterpiece
I don’t know why but the yellow stepper motor every time it spins like that it just makes me laugh
You have been picked by the algorithm. Enjoy your well deserved recognition!

Ah yes, a traditional ballad, perfect for mourning the destruction of earth

I appreciate how hard the yellow one is working.
Oh my god if you look at them as if they were ducks it gets really trippy
This is the weirdest thing that I've seen on UA-cam this week. I just love it.
this is actually more visually pleasing than the normal motors
