Ice Road Trucking Goes Wrong!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 кві 2023
- This job perfectly demonstrates the huge safety benefit and value of automatic tire chains. There were no chain controls in effect on this day, because the pass was mostly clear with just a few patches of ice at the top, and by the time you got to those short patches you were miles past the nearest chain up area, and no one is going to stop and chain up just to go a quarter mile. Unfortunately, one little slip in that quarter mile could spell disaster. This was a very experienced driver who runs this route daily, and a company who has an excellent safety record, but I’ve doesn’t care and it put the truck into a slide that sent it into the snow bank.
Luckily for me, I have @onspotnorthamerica22 automatic tire chains on my truck and can simply flip a switch when I get onto the ice to give me the extra traction I need, and then I can just as easily flip them back off as soon as I’m clear of the ice, instead of bouncing down miles of pavement to the next chain up area.
In addition to the huge increase in safety while driving, the OnSpot Chains also keep the driver FAR safer by keeping them in the truck moving down the road, instead of standing on an icy shoulder trying to install or remove chains as traffic goes by just feet away.
I have been running them all winter with zero issues and have decided that I will never have another truck without them. Between the time saved, the increase in driver safety, and the reduction in accident likelihood, they are an absolute bargain!

So cool of you, as a fellow trucker, to give him a whole safety check of lights and everything before sending him on his way. That's customer service!
A haircut would have been nice as well but let’s not git greedy
Well as the truck got really lucky with only minor cosmetic damage and the loader did most of the job he had what he could and since time spent driving there anyway!
To me thats just part of the job. Now I do not work in Casey's industry. But when I build a pc for someone it will go through a burn in process to ensure no problems with any of the components.
Rules of the road, at least it used to be. Integrity once had value.
On today's episode of " sir , you can't park there "
30 years of commercial driving and ice and wind got me in March. Jacknifed and totaled the truck.
Maybe I’m qualified for Swift now. Learned how to wreck a truck
Not yet, you have to totall trailer and its cargo also.😜😎
One time is no time, two times are one too much! 👍 So you will have one more chance before you have to work for Swift. Glad you didn’t hurt yourself. 😊
Eventually the odds catch up to you.
Just remember, the more you are on the road, the more likely you are to have an accident. As a driver myself, I've had three accidents in the past 20 years, mind you I drive a taxi and it was always the other guy's fault. One time I got hit by someone making a left-hand turn into my right front fender for example. People are idiots on the road, just remember, always drive where you're comfortable, especially in bad weather conditions.
If you've gone 30 years without jack-knifing a Truck, you're not even close to being ready to drive for None-to-Swift...
😄😁😆😅😂🤣
Well that was easy peasy! Just some minor damage to the trucks plastics mostly. Nobody was hurt and that is the main thing. Good job Casey, thanks for taking us along! Have an awesome week 👍
The few times I've dealt with tow companies they always seem to act like they have you by the shot hairs, compounding a already bad situation, Casey could teach alot of tow operators some courtesy.
The loader made that one easier. Still dangerous having to work in Hwy traffic. Great job 👍
Yeah it don't matter how experienced you are you learn something every day and help yourself in the future.
Your versatility and equipment knowledge must put you on top of the towing industry in your area. Great job Casey in explaining what you were doing and why.
Casey, you show a side of tow operators that a great many don't see in action or realize - helping to safe the vehicle for travel, checking his brakes and lights, etc (being the great guy that you are). I've seen many a tow driver spend more time cleaning the debris up from an incident than the actual response took, and even though you are supposed to, there are those that do just the bare minimum to get by. I feel for the driver - an empty trailer is a bad thing, and this is one of the reasons why!
Casey i admire the way you have a place for everything & when you finish using it you put it back in it's place so it's there when you need it most.. Great video, nice workmanship ty for sharing your time casey..
☕🐢
Those auto chains should be required on all trucks in snow lands⁉️⁉️⁉️amazing!,!❤❤❤
Great Job as always, taking care of everything, safety , a well equipped and organized truck makes everything easy like you said and most important showing respect to Truck Drivers .
A Big Shot out For you and the OR DOT .
Casey, 100% onspot chains have an incredible amount of value and are easy to service if needed.
I know that trucker sure appreciates you and the DOT guys. Great job.
That seemed "easy", but it was because you had all the right tools. Even removing the damaged plastic would have been a royal pain without the pry bar and grinder!
Wow he goes over everything with fine tooth comb. Impressive
Love how fast you find tools.
I'm impressed Casey, your truck is well organized.. You don't have to go searching for anything..
Casey is the "Batman" of tow truck drivers. --- Thanks for the great upload. ---
I 100% agree ran them on my school buses for 10 years very very helpful!👍🏽😀❤️🇺🇸
good job Casey and a cheers to the DOT guys
When you said "auto chains" my mind went nuts trying to figure out what kind of witchcraft was necessary to make that work. Then I went to your video about it. Amazing how simple it is.
U b careful on the traffic side of that wrecker!!! U scared me!!😮😮❤❤
Great recovery! It is quite enlightening to watch your careful demeanor and explanations along the way! Great stuff indeed!
Just so I have this right, you take the tools after you're finished using them and put them back where they belong? Could that be the step I'm missing that makes it impossible to walk through my garage or find things when I need them? Interesting concept.
Also, was it just me or were your hands slightly shaking with excitement when you hit the auto-chain switches? 😄
I think that's why I have 2 or 3 of everything.
@@carmenevans7651 You and me both. I can't open a drawer, toolbox or glove compartment around here without finding another set of Allen wrenches.
I've got 1 small shop, 1 back porch, and 4 free HF tape measures. Very frustrating on day's that they all hide.
@@edwinhsingmaster9135 my tape measures sit on the kitchen table. They disappear when I need to measure something. It's just me and the cats and I don't know what they are measuring.
I lose tools just sitting at one corner of the vehicle (like working on brakes). I find the tool on a box halfway across the garage.
Nice recovery. It only takes a split second for a jack-knife to happen. The auto chains could probably avoided this judging how easy it was for you to drive up empty.
As a retired truck driver, I can say you are a blessing to the whole transportation thing. Good Job!
Awesome job plus helping the driver check lights!👍😎 Keep up the great work and stay safe out there!❤️🙏
Casey, I remember when you had those auto chains installed. Seeing them in action was great. I'm sure they cost a bit but what an investment in safety and convenience!
Casey, U introduced me 2 the auto chains 4 ur wrecker! Wish those were around when I drove over the road! I’m retired now! But how cool those r! 👌👍❤️
I really enjoyed this, atypical, body cam roadside gig. Just focused on what has to happen, not the cinematics or narration. Both have their place in a great video like this one.
Very professional, nice job Casey
Video of Auto Chains working next time please!! So cool!
UK here; I wondered what those 'senders' were that were down, until I saw the gritter truck and realised it was a regional accent for 'cinders' ! Learnt something there - we call it grit, or salt... ;-)
I d say most of the rest of the country would say sander as they are spreading sand or a sand salt mix usually as the salt keeps the sand from freezing
In some parts of the country they use cinders (coal ash) because it is dark and absorbs sunlight, and it is also easier on some trees than is salt.
Here we tend to use ground rock salt, usually pre-wetted. There is a lot of science now behind the different stages of road clearance.
It's often tricky when dialect word choice and accent leave the listener confused! (Cue picture of a 'bread roll' with multiple names)
@heartland96a the salt doesn't always keep the mixture from freezing but it does let the sand provide some traction. The downside is the sand needs to be swept up afterwards but I think it was a great help in our city. I have gone sideways down a few streets in a snow plow and it was not fun to be sitting behind the wheel but the truck went wherever it was going until some traction or obstacle stopped it. Not fun. Hit a power pole one time and the blade skipped past the pole and so it was between the blade and the bumper then I had to turn away from the pole to get away from it. The resident of the house came running out to see what happened because it was really loud inside. Everything was ok because I was just barely moving.
The cinders used in Central Oregon is actually crushed red volcanic rock. Very course and abrasive material with a large local supply. Only downside is increased windshield replacements in the winter months.
Thanks for sharing Casey. That is one wonderful tow truck.😊
That little trick of storing grinder with no disc on it is actually a new one on me
Thanks
Here in the middle of B.C. we use these auto chains on our fire trucks.👍
Prefer your off road jobs but it is very interesting seeing how you handle these other sorts of problems too. Your attention to the details of getting the driver safely on the way proves you are less lazy than you like to joke with us about :)
Nice job!! The DOT guys made short work of your recovery by swinging that trailer completely around behind the tractor!! I agree on the auto chains. I could have used those a FEW times!!
Awesome video Casey! Thanks for bringing us along! I loved it! ♥️👌🏼
HEY Casey! Good morning and thumbs UP!!
@@JanelleVocate-Ames Just barely LOL.
@@richardthomas1743 c'mon, you're just being gentlemanly-lots of time between those!
Back In the 90s our bus that picked us up for school had those automatic chains. It was the first and only bus at the time and they were a savior damn near every day in the winter.
I would like to see a video from outside of the truck how the auto chains work I have never seen nor heard of such I am not a truck driver but my dad was a diesel mechanic worked at Frito-Lay in California and Kentucky freight liner in Kentucky so I grew up around tractor trailers and I have just never seen such sounds cool as hell but I sure would like to see them work
Casey did a video on his getting fitted.
The video is called,
"What are automatic tire chains, and how do they work"
Catchy title 😂 just in case you want to look it up yourself and not use the link below.
ua-cam.com/video/lLhqIVSM8wo/v-deo.html
Casey has one that I've seen that he did after they were installed on his rig.
Good job Casey 👍
They should all be that smooth, nice!
nice tool storage boxes 👌👌
Appears you're getting that truck situated nicely, makes everything look so simple
Those earlier Cascadias had the crappiest front bumpers
You got that one done rather swiftly. LOL
Another job well done! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
There's always that first time to everything. Even if you drive 20 years without issues one day ice just will get you
Awesome video, awesome recovery with help . Great job, Casey!!
It's really interesting to see how you guys do things differently over there compared to me in Australia. Keep up the great work.
your very efficient with your time
Great job!!
When I was younger I was in the local FD here in the Northeast. We ran onspots ("auto chains") on all our trucks. Life savers
There’s tv show tow truck drivers and then there’s Casey ladelle! Man has no fear working on a live icy highway! Props as always sir well done job! On tv those guys would have had that whole thing shutdown
Great job Casey 🤙😎
love the idea of those chains, been thinkin on an off on them for my 1 ton wrecker
I just watched video on those chains. Awesome invention!
Thanks for the video
I have to be honest, Onspots are wonderful. I even have them on my Ford F150 truck. I used them after some nor'easters here in Connecticut and they are incredible. They worked very well in my driveway when it was still icy. Onspot mostly focuses on commercial vehicles but they do often have kits that will work on pickup trucks like mine.
Well lookie there..Casey is getting ready to replace Jamie Davis………😂 Casey is moving to Oregon’s Highway Thru’ Hell
Nice to see you have the right tools on the scene
Good job 😊
Fake it until you make it you're the man That's what I did
Nice job you do there!
At least he still had all of his chains still hanging on the trailer
Onspot chains are great, I ran them when i drove an ambulance for the volunteer fire department.
Great video . I need to carry a set of those aluminum chocks they have little teeth for the ice
Nice job love the video
Good information.....
Love seeing those views will be out there in June
Wow you still have so much snow there ! I think the snow here has been gone a month in Omaha
Remember that's at the top of the pass.
@@sharonmiller6436 understood that the elevation makes a difference , thought the melting would have been greater by this time , as the attempt to find the vehicle that didn’t happen all the water flowing then.
Office pool of when the snows melted
that auto chain seems 2 b a wicked coool idea !!!😊
YAY!!!
🏁🥈👍 Goooooood morning Janelle!
Is that Oregon highway to hell and Jamie Davis called and said come on up and help haha:))))) and ps bring the loader with you
Ah!, good stuff!!👍👍✌️😉
I always enjoy the rollback jobs. But the remote for the bed and winch i can't handle. The sounds made by pushing the buttons is very similar to the sound airport metal detectors made back in the 70s and early 80s. I couldn't be within 100 yards of one of those when it went off without cringing in pain. Another reason I haven't been on a plane since September 1985. My sensitive hearing is part of why i was a Communications Technician Technical Branch (CTT) in the Naval in 70. I still enjoy watching and turning the volume back up when you are done with the remote. Just a story from a subscriber. Peace Out.
auto chains are so cool i need them on my rig
Happens to the best of them at some point. The auto chains are cool.
Mountain but OK I just heard you say in the previous video you done about the auto change I must’ve missed one I will go back and look I apologize I should’ve waited till the end of your video before making a comment
Hi Casey. Missed the 4K. Great video.
Auto chains are a game changer. Fellowship of the road is great, but damn. Get autochains. In related news: kudos for not shaming the customer.
Man Casey, talk about going over an above...wow!
#MadRespect
One thing you need to start doing is close your side boxes when you get stuff out. Beings that was on the traffic , if an auto hit the box you would have parts all over the road.
Oh well
So Wise , Thank You . Another Fine rescue . One question could you have hooked on to the trailer and pulled him backward to straiten the rig out and out of the snowbank. On the other hand there was a loader and Dot? . You were there I was NOT
Absolutely awesome job Casey! Not sure how much your auto chains cost but I would think well worth for any truck driver that goes over any passes.
They are about 2k per axle. A quality set of normal chains runs about 1k per axle
From the summit down around Hogg Rock always gets interesting and then through the dip at Lost Lake and around Potato Hill
Like it when the break out the Autocars. Then you get to go over Tombstone if you get lucky
I think if my route was over the mountains I would invest in auto chain myself.
Those auto chains are a nice thing to have! Nive to have a loader to help you!
Looks like the Anchorage to Fairbanks run.. but the trees are taller!
Very cool🤪👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
HA! I thought the side was coming off the trailer! It was just your masking of the company name blending in with the trailer side......
Casey put a zip tie on the end of your rim sling. Leaving the tail makes it easier to get through. Because you can grab the zip tie tail easier. God bless
The loader turned it into a cake walk.
This one took some editing. Good content.
Casey, you said you worked in CA. Where at? Also you made the Milwaukee angle grinder change out look like an AR weapons ready check!! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
What did we every do before the invented portable cut-off wheels and rachet straps?
Casey Davis pulling out a SeM-Mee… without all the TV drama
