Algys Budrys was a successful sci-fi writer but this was his only X Minus One story. Balmholtzer is an investigator for the galaxy. (And I thought I had a big territory for my customer base.) A cute brunette describes a machine that makes uncounerfeitable, indestructible currency. But they find some counterfeits and he is investigating. Balmholtzer is led to a jungle-like planet with 7-foot natives and an interesting item that can reproduce anything. This is what science fiction radio can do, tell a good imaginative story that keeps you interested. (from "The Critical X Minus One" by Jim Fanisher)
Credits (Goldin): Mandel Kramer, Teri Keane, Charles Penman, Richard Hamilton, Wendell Holmes, Algis Budrys (author), Ernest Kinoy (adaptor), William Welch (producer), Daniel Sutter (director), Roger Tuttle (announcer)

This ending is uniquely "radio"...a televised version of the story couldn't have concealed the turning point until the final line, but also couldn't have had the same ending sound effect, which IMO is the best part of the episode.

At 3:00 the narrator describes meeting a guide at the currency manufacturer (later fired for her naughty behavior at an office party!) who was speaking to him while wearing an outfit described as "neo-Minoan." In ancient art, Minoan women are pictured wearing floor-length dressrs and floofy blouses that were open to reveal their breasts . . . which probably explains why, as the narrator explains, he wasn't really paying attention to what she was saying.
