Very good mystery by H.L. Gold. A series of old people who are very rich are found starved to death. (from "The Critical X Minus One" by Jim Fanisher)

My aunt likes detective mysteries, and I like science fiction. Both of us can agree this is one of the best OTR stories ever told.
Authorities : How did you come up with all that money ? The Truth this time !
Him : The Truth ? You would not believe me if I told you !
"it's very dark ink for 1907 "
"It's very dark for a half century old "
Good one!
How could Bob Consadyne's "On the Line" program be"highly acclaimed" when it hadn't "premiered" yet? 🤔
A weird tale of time travel for profit. 💸
Took a while for me to find a plot hole in this story that really bothered me; there are a bunch of nitpicks you could dig up, but the one thing I bump on is the question of clothing. Weldon is specifically described as wearing "shiny blue serge"; serge is a fabric made from either silk or wool, and thus they should be just as prone to vanishing as food. Only in later decades do synthetic fabrics like rayon start to become commonplace.
Rayon was in use well before this. I just read an article in my local paper, from February 24, 1944, on "How to care for Rayon fabrics". If articles like this were being run in the paper of a Nebraska town of less than 1,000 at the time, it was certainly readily available.
@@OTRR valid for our viewpoint character then, I guess. I still want to know what the old-timer was wearing when she sent him back to 1890....
Typical actor, thinks he knows better than a doctor because he feels that way.😉
