I have never been a supporter of Gachagua (I supported Azimio in 2022) and will never rate him highly, but I believe the reason a lot of Mt. Kenya is upset is the unfairness. If you are really impartial then there's no way you see that impeachment process as not a witch hunt. 1st, the idea of impeachment preceded a public exposition/review of Gachagua's "sins". People went into the public participation and parliamentary processes not knowing exactly what he was being accused of. They were discovering and digging this up _during_ the impeachment process. In a proper impeachment, the sins committed take center stage. He was not officially censured by his boss and/or his party, before they decided to go the impeachment route. The process happened at lightning speeds, and "public participation" was not only a sham, but downright hostile/violent. Secondly, the sins Gachagua was accused of, tribalism and corruption, Ruto and his allies are far more guilty of. Ruto's corruption has played very publicly (remember the Weston Hotel sagas with Lang'ata Primary School, as well as KCAA?), and he has been tried in court and even convicted for it. The likes of Davis Chirchir and head of Kenya Pipeline Joe Sang, had been dropped from previous govts for known corruption cases, then reinstated by Ruto. Locally and internationally, Ruto has ranked at the very top of lists of politicians most perceived to be corrupt. His tribalism is so deadly that he got charged at an international court for it.
