I beg to differ, at least for my experience with the 360EX.
I bought one on offer from Newegg's eBay store for $69.99. It arrived in a perfectly intact box, but the pump had leaked all the coolant and the bag it was in was all sticky from it. I then RMA'd it and got a second one after 2 weeks.
The second one got here and was perfectly fine, but for some reason, it didn't cool properly. At stock speeds on a 7700k, load temps got up to 90C, which is ridiculous. I wanted to keep trying but quickly realized that a product which has failed me twice isn't going to be reliable at all.
Funny thing is that, while waiting for the cooler, I had just laid on a stock cooler from an AMD FX-8120 and it never got over 70C at stock frequency, which is 20C cooler than a massive 360mm liquid cooler.
Returned it and bought a refurbished H115i from newegg for $79.99, which is much better in every way than the deepcool.
I'm not sure if I'm overclocking wrong but I can't reach 5GHz without crashes. I've gotten to 4.8GHz at around 70C load.
I haven't bought anything else from them, but it might just be the 360ex and not the 240 or the 120 with the problem. It's the same pump so I don't see why not.

DeepCool RGB lighting strip kits are the only issues I've ever had with them. Within the first month they all blinked and refused to stay in uniformed color. They were budget strips so you get what you pay for, I suppose.

I recently had one of these leak from the CPU block onto the back of my 980ti which killed the card,
I'll say I'm super happy with how deep cool handled the situation, They actually refunded the full price of the 980ti from purchase price so at the time was about $1100 AUD,
Which actually allowed me to step up to a 1080ti...I also got a replacement cooler unit & have had no problems since + as you mentioned Greg they are gorgeous if your going for a white build & don't want to go through the hassle of painting RADs etc,
All in all great product & a great company!
Cheers for the video as well, Always top notch stuff

I saw some of the negative reviews and I saw some of the same from other AIO. Like anything else, there are some bad apple in a bunch, but doesn't mean everything is bad. I also heard their customer support are good.
I do like the design of the deepcool ones, since like what you said, there is no massive logo taking up the whole face of the pump. Looks a bit cleaner then others.

This is my 3 year+ usage update on my DEEPCOOL CAPTAIN 240EX WHITE. I want to thank Greg for this video which was the primary reason for my purchase way back then. I was excited to do a "white build" with a new ryzen in the spring of 2017. I've got a 1700 oc'd to 3.9 on all cores, 16gb G.Skill Flare X, and an EVGA 1070ti FTW2 in a Corsair white 400c. AIO fans worked fine but I swapped all the fans out with white LED which turned the case into a lighthouse beacon that could be seen for miles.... so wapped out again for corsair purple LED fans with two SP fans on the AIO, looks good and still working perfectly. I use this comp for gaming and internet and ONLY shut it down for maybe 30 hours a week 9 months out of the year so it has at least tendy billion hours of use on the hardware in the last 3+ years. NO issues ever with the Captain. It looks and runs great. I have it top mounted for exhaust with three 120 up front and 1 in the back. The hottest it runs is 63 degrees when I play AOTS for hours. It doesn't have the new "anti-leak" feature, but that hasn't been an issue, and hope it never is. This winter I fully intend to do a white build with a 5900x wtith a DEEPCOOL 360 AIO cooling the CPU. I hope it works as well and has the longevity that this 240EX has had.
Thanks again Greg. Love your videos.

I'm really glad you made this video! About a year ago I built my new gaming PC. I did my best to stay under $2000 by shopping around and only buying what I needed and recycling parts I had.
I chose this AIO from Amazon by looking at reviews and choosing by price. After using it for almost a year with a i5-9600k@ 5.0GHz, I can confirm that it has worked exactly as I would have hoped for OC.
Just wanted to thank you for the affirmation, as I wasn't sure if it was that great of an AIO or not, being my first ever AIO.
    Specs: 9600k, GSKILL 16GB DDR4 3000MHz, Sapphire Vega 64, Corsair HX750, Captain 240RGB

Just got the ex120 today for my Ryzen 5 1400. It did NOT come with an AM4 bracket, sadly. They have an article stating to email one of their representatives with a Newegg invoice (which I bought mine from). I did all that and the rep was happy to help . . . However, they could not assist me simply because I live in Canada. I had to purchase a bracket myself off amazon for $15 (including shipping). Considering it cost $100 regularly and I got it for $69,it is still a good deal. That said to my fellow canucks, be warned as yours may not have a bracket included for AM4 platforms.

I bought this with a white Deepcool Dukase as well. With a MSI B350 Tomahawk and a ryzen 1500x and 16 gigs of Gskill ram with an M.2 500 gig and 2 other SSD's for storage. I'm 61 years old and have never played a game ever, but for doing Music recording with an audio interface (Presonus) and Studio one recording software this setup up is amazing! The 240ex keeps the cpu at 32c all day long. The Asus 1050 dual video card runs both of my 27 inch monitors just fine. Going from an old AMD 965 black edition with 8 gigs of ddr3 ram has made a world of difference. Thanks for the information and keep up the really good video's. The ole guy from Canada says so!!!! TC

I know this is a late comment/review but I have had this exact AIO on my pc for about 3.5-4 years now. I havent had a single problem with it. I have an Intel I5 6600k overclocked to 4.2 Ghz and Ive never gotten temps over 75c even while streaming/gaming. I am buying a Ryzen 7 2700x tomorrow and switching to a x470 board and I love this cooler so much that I am keeping it!
As Science Studio said, the white variant makes this a perfect AIO for any RGB setup. They do make a RGB version of this now which I havent seen or anything, but since my ram is corsair vengeance white only, the white only AIO doesnt bother me:)
If you are on the fence about this cooler, GET IT :)

Thanks for the video. Wanted to see what you had to say about it. In December 2016 I bought a Captain 240EX and have been enjoying it's aesthetics and performance. Toward the end of April however it sprung a leak and got fluid on my motherboard and all over the back of my graphics card. Thanks to having a side panel widow I caught it quickly and was able to shut down and prevent any potential damage to those components but it did take me a couple hours to clean it all up. The fluid leaked through some cutouts on the backplate of my graphics card onto the PCB and to clean that up I had to remove the cooler from my card to get to the screws to remove the backplate. Anyway, I really liked the cooler up until that point. In case you were wondering the leak developed between the red transparent tubing (I got the red and black one)and the black elbow on the side of the CPU block. Looks like the adhesive or whatever they use to "glue" the tube into that elbow failed and it popped out a little bit leaking down onto everything below. :(

Maraksot78 did deepcool help you repay your build?

    • @Maraksot78
      @Maraksot78 7 років тому +7

griffix I caught it soon enough that none of my other components were damaged. To their credit DeepCool did ask me if any other components were damaged due to the leak. They offered to replace my Captain 250EX with a Captain 360EX but rather than get another Captain cooler I decided to just have my money refunded which they did. Even though the cooler failed I have to say that DeepCool very honorably lives up to their warranty.

I just bought the 120EX about 3 weeks ago and so far, no issues. I also bought it in white because of my build. I did have to flip it around so my tubes were running to the top rather than the bottom of my radiator. Running them on the bottom put a lot of tension on them because they would have been pushed right into the backplate of my graphics card (not sure if there are pros and cons for running the tubes top/bottom but oh well). I have the radiator and fan mounted to the back of my case (to the left of the CPU) bringing in cool air over the fins and into the case. The air is then exhausted out the top of the case by two Noctua fans. I will say it is a bit more "gurglie" than the old corsair that I used to have. This usually occurs on start up but afterwards, its fine. The pump is for the most part, very quiet. It does give off the ever so slightest high pitched whine noise. Its a very slight noise (I mean you have to turn your head a certain way to hear it well) but you do notice it. Overall, for the price, its pretty nice!

I bought this cooler in July of '16 (after waiting for almost 2 months for APO shipping and that fiasco with NewEggs shipping) and have been absolutely amazed with this cooler. I was skeptical at first because I don't know the brand and there were about the same amount of negative reviews as there were positive ones. Thankfully mine has had no issues and handles 4.7GHz 6700K only barely touching 70° at it's highest.
love this cooler so much when I build a co worker his computer I got him a 120mm edition and gos 6600k to roughly 4.4Ghz and he has no issues either.
    love this cooler.

At idle temps sit on low 30s; after two hours of AIDA64 benchmarking temps settle on 80 / 81 ºC. I'm quite impressed with its performance, although it required a bit of twinkling with fan curves.

As with any product, there is a variance of user experiences, but I figured I would add mine for the measure, and to give a more contemporary take since this video post a year ago. I have had 2 Captain 240 EX White running since October of 2016...now, when I say running, I mean it...I built a dual Xeon system (2x E5 2420 V4 8C/16T) for 3D rendering and am cooling both CPUs on stock curves and this system has been running 24/7 since it was built...it has literally only been powered down for maybe a total of 15 hours or so in that time. Seeing as I can't overclock, I am not pushing temps too high (one of the reasons I like the Xeons) yet all 32 threads will push at 2.99/3.0 for sometimes up to a week solid during a render, and I have never seen the temps go above 48C (remember, Xeons...). So, in short, I have seen around 13,680 hours of continual use without issue. That being said, I am going to pick up a couple more of these to have on hand when it is time to swap in a refresh. Thank you Greg for the fantastic and well thought out content, and may you see continued success!

I've had something with these cooleres. I've received a 360 Captain as gift and the radiator had a leak. So, I've e-mailed Deepcool ad they REFUNDED my watercooler I've swaped the radiator with an Alphacool and I'm runnig it for more than an year without any problems.
The major thing with AIO is that the closed loop might not be properly filled, and the bubles and gaps will damage the pump in no time, that's a mojar cause of damage, as well as poorly configured PWM settings in bios or softwares that reduces the pump speed, stressing it too much.
Right now, the balance between silence, price and performance made it my favorite cooler brand.

When I'm buying a case - the fans are a big consideration for me. I look for quantity and quality, and consider any additional case fan purchase as part of the cost of the enclosure.

Great review Greg... I love Deepcool products and have not had any issues with either of the AIO coolers from them that I have purchased. (240EX white and 360EX RGB white)

I know its an old video and a pretty late comment but i just saw this today and i gotta say great video Greg!
So i have had a Deepcool Captain 360EX Black and red (red rgb in the middle) and i've had it for maybe 2 years now or so and it still works great and going strong , never had issues with it.
Was great price new, I have the first gen ryzen (1800X) and the cooler dosent let the cpu go over 55C+ even under heavy gaming & load , And i've read that coolers have broken and etc but lets be honest that has happend to every vendors coolers from time to time sure you might find more posts with these coolers but i have never experienced any flaws with it and ima use this cooler until the pump goes cuz its working great!

I got one of these as a Christmas gift last year, it came DOA. The external viewing tube had come disconnected a little, and it leaked half the coolant out on the way in. I contacted deepcool about it, gave them all the information they asked for (including pictures of the broken tube as evidence). After dragging the RMA process out for over 2 months, they still didn't replace it. Luckily amazon was nice enough to refund it anyway, and I ended up getting an Artic Freezer AIO instead. Even better cooler for the money btw. I will say though, the deepcool does look better. Really wish they hadn't shit the bed on that RMA

One of the best looking blocks in the market, in my opinion. I got this cooler in the black RGB varient. The first cooler arrived with a dead pump. Science studio gives these fans too much justice. They're atrociously loud. The tubing also is too short. Due the phanteks p400 I used, which does not support radiators on the top, I had to mount it in the front. There was almost no slack in the tubing, and the p400 is a fairly small case.
Due to the large percentage of negative reviews, and the experience i have had with it, I took it out after a month for a replacement.

Captain 240 EX been working good. However, resently leaked through the glass tube connection. Leaked on top of my RX 580. Deepcool valued RX 580 as depreciated card and priced it at $40. But did offfered to replace the cooler with other similar models.

So far still doing good with my Captain 240EX after about 10 months and very happy with it! But a new value contender has been flying under the radar, so if you get a chance to play with the Arctic Liquid Freezer AIO series, check em out. 38mm rad and push-pull config out of the box, though it isn't much for aesthetics but its still cool! And under $90 for a 240mm unit!

yes its a nice cooler... here in germany for 115 bucks and i would still recommend it. build 5-6 weeks ago a red themed ryzen 7 build for friend of mine. first he wanted the dark rock pro 3 but he found this on amazon and i bought it without a research. installed and worked fine. pump is not noisey, fans in most cases too and yep... dont know the temps at the moment but as i remember temps are also good... cpu is not oc... just uses the xfr and its fine! for 115 bucks an aio... u want it, buy it. i heared from a dude that he bought an corsair h100i and the pump failed after 2 weeks. sooo shit happens, when it want to be :) best regards from germany. thx for sharing

CPU coolers are just a matter of taste. I have an old Zerotherm Nirvana that I used to use on my AMD Phenon X4 back in 2007 and it´s now on my I5 6600k. I can still overclock it to 4,6ghz and the temperature never goes beyond 65c with ambient temperature at 32c. My case only has one intake 80mm cooler and one exhaust 120mm cooler. My graphics card exhaust is inside the case, so I have the worst possible scenario and the thing run very nice without the need of water cooling. Though This water system is at a very good price.
