I own a geocache that's just like the space shuttle one you showed, minus the space shuttle. Mine is just a simple tube pointing straight upward. I called it "Pinball Wizard", and it's got a decent amount of favorite points on it. Fun story about my Pinball Wizard. I got a message from someone saying they couldn't get the cache to launch out for some reason. It was the middle of winter here in northern Illinois, so I figured something got stuck down in there and was frozen in place. I arrived at GZ, and yeah, I couldn't get it to launch either. I could pull the plunger down, but nothing shot out. So, I got my tools and take the tube down off the telephone pole so I could bring it to my car and warm it up and melt whatever is in there. My car started to stink as the tube warmed up. Eventually, I was able to knock out the pair of dead, frozen mice that had crawled into the tube to take shelter and stay warm, but they had no way out, so they eventually froze to death. I had to take the entire thing home to wash and sanitize it. Then I got a cap for it so that wouldn't happen again. That's what I thought was inside the space shuttle one when you found some furry stuff on the plunger... but nope.
Oh man, I'm glad I read this AFTER finding this cache... I would have seen the fur and noped right out of there haha. I can't imagine how gross that would have been. I've yet to find a dead animal IN a cache fortunately...
I'm guessing there was a nut on the bottom of the plunger that wiggled itself loose and off at some point. Of they just wanted to give that authentic, booster tanks falling away, feel.
I think you're right. We spent a few minutes trying to find that bolt, but nothing turned up. I left a note for the CO. It certainly added to the excitement though
I should not have laughed as hard as I did when the plunger mechanism shot out as well...but I did. I see you are a hand sanitizer-instead-of-gloves person?
In most of my videos (including this one) I use a DJI Mic. I've been super happy with it. (Especially since it pairs directly with my DJI camera without a dongle or receiver.) I've been enjoying using lapel mics because, when I move the camera around caches, my voice tends to fluctuate between loud and soft on camera-mounted mics. The lapel mic keeps everything nice and level.

You always finding the good ones 😂
I just don't usually feature the water logged bison tubes and cracked pill bottles on this channel 😉

I am... But I'm slowly starting to see the light 😂
Also, out of curiousity, what kind of mics are you using for your videos?
