  • Many are concerned about troubling signs in the Church today. How does the crisis of today fit into the larger scope of the Church's history? Is this the worst it has ever been? Ralph digs into these questions in this week's video.

Good morning from Scotland I've just watched this video. Grateful to you for researching the crisis in our Holy Catholic church. Agreed there have been times worse that this in the past. With regard to the new "prefect of the doctrine of the Catholic faith" I had occasion to go to confession about the most uncharitable feelings I was harbouring against this Archbishop. My Confessor wasn't in agreement with me regarding a book published by this same cleric! In fact he advised me to go read the book to fully discern the "meaning" of it. He also said that those speaking against our present pontiff and his "team" around him had "got it all wrong"
I downloaded extracts of this book, as advised by my confessor and sadly my opinion was worse than before as I read it.
I feel we are heading towards a great precipice within the Catholic church and pray with all my heart that we "STOP" the utter madness which is escalating with each passing day.
God bless you in your work at renewal ministries. I've signed up for your newsletter as I do want to keep informed.
    Thank you and God bless.

It seems worse now because we all know about it and hear all the conflicting and opposing viewpoints. In the 4th century many Christians probably had no idea what went on in the hierarchy.

Wow. I was wrong when in an earlier comment I’d claimed this current crisis is worse. Very clever report on the Arian crisis, which used language deceitfully, among other things, and unfolded to terrible lengths. “The fault lines are there” in today’s crisis; the earthquake could be averted if appropriate exposition of evil and proper remedies are enacted. Lord, have mercy on your bride. Well done, thank you, Ralph!

Ralph, big fan. But I do have an additional question.
Was the personal behavior of the laity, and some clerics as corrupt as today? Was there abortion, gay marriage, so many children being born out outside marriage, were only 25% of Catholics attending mass? Etc etc etc. the stuff outside the church makes me wonder, if yes it is worse?

Great work and lesson in Church History. Genesis 3:15 will always be in play. We are the Church Militant, so I will change your word of Crisis to battle. This battle is authored behind the veil but played out in the human element and carried out on the earth. The Immaculate Heart will Prevail. Thanks for soldiering the battle.Souls are at stake.

Excellent analysis Ralph as always. Thomas More, by the way, was a lay man. It’s telling that Fisher, More & John the Baptist all died by beheading for the same reason; for publicly defending Gods plan from the beginning for marriage and human sexuality. Paul from Belfast👍🙏

How much I needed to hear this video Mr. Martin.....i never ask God for a sign because I feel it's nit trusting In Him...but I re-post much on FB & things have become so confusing & I constantly anx over making a "mis-take" & misleading someone. Thank you for giving me exactly what I needed to post right now & in such a truthful, concerned, gentle yet powerful way....Jesus & Mary answered my prayers through your words! You are in my prayers along with all Priests, Bishops, Cardinals, & Pope Francis🙏

Thank you, Dr Martin, very much. I personally respect and value your faithful, intellectual and unhistrionic discussion of the present crisis that we're in- it certainly reinforces the themes of your book. As just a Catholic in the pew who reads, The Arian Crisis was fundamentally a theological one. Our present crisis is bit more broad. To me, it is an attempt to overturn key Magesterial teachings primarily of the Church's foundational stance on human sexuality and the family. This is a precursor to the End Times in my opinion.

Thank you, Ralph. You have a way with dispelling much fear. Thank you for your discussion in such a calming manner. The issues here are so disturbing, attacking not only our Catholic morals but the moral fabric of our entire culture. I have noticed even my adult children and adult grandchildren softening their attitudes, saying, "...whatever, as long as it doesn't affect me." It affects everyone. So, again, thank you for putting some perspective on this.

Helped me get perspective and remember to trust God more about the current situation. If you don’t have time to read the book watch some interviews and talks by Bennett on the book. Just a suggestion 😉

Wonderful presentation, Ralph. One small point: St Thomas More was the Lord High Chancellor of Henry VIII's government; he wasn't a bishop. Bishop John Fisher was the ONLY bishop who opposed Henry VIII becoming the head of the English Church.

Today, Sept 30, is the feast of Saint Jerome. I did a little research on him and his times, the controversies during those times, and how, with his special, rather difficult person- ality, dealt with his detractors. Loyal and strong in faith, he survived. And amidst the crisis, and all times when there was a crisis, the Church survived - as promised by her founder - Jesus, the Son of God. As a simple member of the laity, I am not afraid of what's happening in the Church now. I believe it is another period of purification, and if the Church has to shrink a bit for this to happen, so be it. (Didn't a past pope say something to this effect?)

Arianism was pretty damn bad. Imo, it was the worst period for the Church, because it was not only such a fundamental heresy, but it was so pervasive, to the point that more Christian realms than not had embraced it.

    • @RenewalMinistries

Ralph starts defining it around the 2 minute mark. It is named for a bishop in the early Church named Arias who perpetuated the falsehood that Jesus was not fully divine, but was rather just a creature. It was a crisis because it was widely believed and many Catholics fell for the heresy at the time, having a wrong understanding of who Jesus is.

Definitely not the worst crisis. SM is a lot to blame for the hysteria, along with the rise of 'super hero' syndrome. SM can be used for good & bad - that's why discernment is important. When Catholics are so worked up online that they magnify every problem, call for heads to roll & engage in crystal ball Catholicism & gossip, perhaps they might be consuming the wrong things? Afterall, we know very little of what 'actually' goes on, who is or is not being chastised other than what is released publicly. Some chose to advertise it, some dont.
Btw, twitter is the worst! Fake news city!
