Enjoying the vids Dan. I've been in print for nearly 18 years. Currently running two Xerox iGen 150's, C1000 and two Nuvera's. I'm starting to think the newer colour production machines, even the smaller models like your C3070 are making the iGen platform obsolete. You said you've had one service call on your 3070 since you've had it and that was for just a drum? Now that's the dream right there.

Just got hired by a print shop and I'm running the show in the back ur videos are extremely helpful. I was wonder where i would be able to find more info with conica
Interesting, I set up my cards the same way but in Indesign, I just have a template but as an added help, I have cutlines which are grouped so I just print one sheet and if its in position (check with a utility knife the same way you do) then I just click no colour for the lines and then run the cards without the trimlines. Having the top sheet with the trimlines just helps me from doing the wrong cut, if I'm not paying attention. Also I would have cut in a slightly different order - that is cut the two sides, then cut the long strips to 3 1/2" and then cut the 3 strips down 2 1/8ths down and then the final 2" cut. In this way you are just handling the long strips rather than piles of cut cards . (also I have to take the false clamp off for less than 3" and the cutter may leave marks so I often have a couple of waste sheets under the top sheet) Whether or not its worth getting a bc slitter I can't say, but I don't know if you have a programmable cutter, if you are doing a lot of cutting that repeats, that is a huge time savings, so you don't have to stop and move the cutter by hand to the next cut. I don't know if they're still around but MicroCut from California has an attachment which retrofits old cutters with their Microcut computer so you just punch in the next cut length (rather than moving it by hand) and you can enter a series of cuts, moves, back and forth and save it. You can have a number of programs for various things you repeat. It is handy for large runs. Basically they have a motor that attaches to the adjustment wheel. You can also adjust, add or remove a cut anytime when running a cutting program. And you can still keep the manual option.
Love your videos! I use a Polar 115. Any cutter that uses a programable function is fast. I had an old Challenge with a MicroCut Jr. that was a great time saver and accurate for business cards.

It is not only fast-paced, but no room for errors on a daily basis, year after year. I would have employees, that's the only difference between my place and this one. And include overhead in all estimates, ie...rent, utilities, equipment payments (even if paid off), phones; internet, all fixed expenses....every job.
I am a French digital printer in the South Pacific on hp indigo and recently I also work on kodak nexpress. I have just discovered your channel, it's really cool, nice work, are you alone in production? If yes, you are very brave. For information, I use duplo dc 646 for cutting business cards, it makes the job easier
That PDF snake program is cool I'll have to try it out. We've been using the fiery imposition software. It was about $1000 or so but I think the integration is worth it in the long run. With hotfolders we can download impose and proof print our files in one step. Lately I've been trying to adjust shift on all my media's so I don't have to shift on the job. It's working pretty good. We I started and was having to cut all my BC's on my cutter I quickly bought a duplo slitter cutter creaser.
I’m thinking between duplo and morgana. One duplo for 3 operations, or 2 morgana units for creasing and folding. I buy all my stuf in auctions and for duplo i have some doubts, because it hafe too many electrical componets, and i can’t do maintenance by my self :/ i need some other opinion :/
We have been using an 8up card slitter for years, running all our business cards 16 up on 11 x 17, chop in half on cutter then hand feed through slitter. Efficient but not flexible. Just this week I installed a Duplo 646 and I’m blown away. I really think as a 1 man shop you should consider one of these, it’ll take a lot of the load off your cutter (and the manual time) and it will just run attended while you’re binding books, etc. Got mine used for $24k. In your case the smaller 616 or 618 might be a better fit for your shop. Also perforates and creases. It’s a beast. Love your videos!
Hi Dan. Love your video. I got a question about your Challenge cutter. Does that cutter model have the digital measuring? I watched you cutting the business cards and you cut them so fast. Where is the meter that you look at to adjust the cut size you need?
maybe because I cut mostly NCR I never let my clamp slam down always brought the clamp down first than made my cut and the business cards didn't have any bleed so I also had to be more precise
When using the paper trimmer, how do you stop it from almost cutting at a slant? I've noticed some prints will not cut at the exact same line on each paper. It's hard to explain, but i do lay them flat and tighten the "block" that comes down. It just never cuts the exact same
Is there a specific reason why you use 2 different printers for the books and another for the cards? I am wanting to learn so I don't have to make mistakes in choosing my printer. Also, can I cut about everything on that cutter?
I've seen lots of your videos and I'm curious that is it just you that's working there or there are other people working too ?? I am a 2nd generation printer too and we have an offset setup, but I enjoy watching your videos and gaining knowledge about the digital printing sector 😊😊
I am not a fan of working at a small print company where the site manager dictates or micro-manages your work duties and there are times the manager or a co-worker scolds at you for not doing the right thing Iike cutting various printed materials like trimming down a 10-up Book mark or 20-up business card is freaking challenging on a power-driven guillotine but trimming SRA3 paper into A3, A4, A5, or A6 is very easy!
I enjoyed watching your video. I have a small sign shop and screen printing business in Middle Tenn. We have had a local printer (cards and stationery like your shop) go out of business and have had request for printing their products. We are considering getting into this type of printing but at a smaller scale. I would appreciate any information that you could pass on about equipment and paper suppliers. We would probably like a single printer that could print cards, envelopes, note pads bonded by glue on one side and folded brochures.
I like the Konica machines, however there are several good digital printing machines available. Contact your local Konica rep for an entry level machine. Or if you are the type of person that would want to service a machine yourself, find a used machine, like the 1070 I just bought.
So the cutter I operate is old school but it has all the digitals stuff and an air platform to help float the paper a little bit. Air is crucial in where and how much.
You have a great deal of money invested in all your machinery. How many years does it take to start making money. or are you making payments on your machinery while you make money for your pocket?
have you considered switching your big hydraulic paper cutter with a more digital one? I used to use ones where you can program it and it will automatically do the sizes aswell, real useful when doing alot of cutting
Hey I love your videos I wanted to know what paper do I use for a glossy look on my business cards I’m a small business I’m not able to afford the big machines just yet so what advice would you have for me to start out with for business cards and flyers? Thanks
@@justaprinter thanks I’m really trying to get into the printing business for business cards, flyers and other things I have the designing down pack and the card stock I would need it’s just the printer now it’s so many printers lol

Great video! I see that you are using a digital machine. Usually registration varies from 1 sheet to another. How do you make sure that they are perfectly aligned for back to back printing?
Thanks! Consistent paper, cleanliness, correct position of guides. Thats about all you can do. I do expect about 1 mm of variation, however my 3070 is often right on.
Some variance is to be expected (I also run a print shop, all digital here too) and that's why we have bleed. Great work Dan, though for 12x18", I also check all four corners for front-to-back in case the printer's causing some skew while doing duplex printing. Quite often, I get one corner great and the other may be a little out of whack...
My Canons dont like duplexing #120..We just run it one side at a time... Our standard BC stock is #100 lb.. no prob duplexing there.. either way make sure the paper is consistent ....
PERFECT work environment for me. All machines, no annoying coworkers

I used to be the only one, but just gained a great co-worker!
There is time savings but beware, to replace the screen and boards on the new cutters are more than expensive. Good luck in your search.
Hope I never need to replace the screen or board. Lets not think about that.
How would you cut a 10-up bookmark on a SRA3? I messed up at work lol
I like your attitude
You do everything yourself? Wow
Keeps me busy.
Wow! Like your edit.
Thanks! You can certainly tell when I spend more time editing.
I have a duplo. And like a lot of your work you can walk away and do their work.
Agreed, automation is nice when you are busy! Thanks for watching.
Really cool stuff. Is there a reason you use that PDF plugin for imposition instead of the imposition software built into your Fiery?
Probably because we had it before the Konica presses. It is very simple and fast. I should play around with the fiery impose one of these days.
I've been mostly Invoice Receipt books we in Cape town South Africa..
Ok, nice!
This is so interesting!
Glad you think so!
How often to you change the blade on your cutter? And have you done a video on changing it?
Usually every 10-15000 trims. ua-cam.com/video/pcR4_z-Tz_4/v-deo.html&lc=UgztxrhDULYRupL0o6t4AaABAg
Whoaaa! You do multitasking thats great! May I know what machine do you use for calling cards?
Very nice work flow!!!
Thanks! I use Konica c3070 and 1070 to print cards.
@@justaprinter thanks always keep safe.
May I learn all that from you. So I can come for you there.
Keep watching my videos. Thats the best way to learn!
Hi, I want to know the costing of Size A5 front back color printing on 300gsm paper? how much it cost if I have quantity like 1000 pcs.
Rewards card for repeat business. #Newsletters #businesscards
Good idea!
So the cutter I operate is old school but it has all the digitals stuff and an air platform to help float the paper a little bit. Air is crucial in where and how much.
Agree, those air tables are nice.
You have a great deal of money invested in all your machinery. How many years does it take to start making money. or are you making payments on your machinery while you make money for your pocket?
Profit depends on what you charge and how much you run your machines. I like a return on investment in not more than a few years.
HiThanks, great information..can i get your same job ticket format?
Send me an email at justaprinterman@gmail.com or join my Patreon page, its on there.
have you considered switching your big hydraulic paper cutter with a more digital one? I used to use ones where you can program it and it will automatically do the sizes aswell, real useful when doing alot of cutting
I have. And several people mentioned I should upgrade. I guess I should,
@@justaprinter Keep that cutter and look into adding a Duplo... Ours is referred to as the "magic machine" around here.
Hey I love your videos I wanted to know what paper do I use for a glossy look on my business cards I’m a small business I’m not able to afford the big machines just yet so what advice would you have for me to start out with for business cards and flyers? Thanks
I'd suggest you find a trader printer online. Business cards are cheap for them to print.
@@justaprinter thanks I’m really trying to get into the printing business for business cards, flyers and other things I have the designing down pack and the card stock I would need it’s just the printer now it’s so many printers lol
Which production printer would you suggest to start off? I am in sign printing qnd t-shirt printing already but would like to explore business card printing as well. Any suggestion for printers?
Buy what you can afford, I know the Konica machines and a 1070, 3070 is a good choice.

Appreciate that
Just came across your videos. I just purchased my xerox 550 still looking to learn on it. My question is were can i ginsh stock at a great price?
Just depends where you are located. Google paper supplier or paper distributor near me. Even when you find a supplier you would probably have minimum order amounts.
Do you have any of this similar job information in US?

@@justaprinter I do face daily. Customers bring sample and ask me how thickness and what paper... Then I've to say... There's something difference for near to paper thickness. Suppose 150 and 170 is something difficult to guess. But no matter if it's 150 and i say 170. Customers can't understand. The other thickness I can guess. my room is alone and i do maximum time dummy make. there I'm to use all kind of paper. I stay always in touch.
Love your place
Awesome, thanks!
@@joncalon7508 same to me i use c1060l mitolta most of duplex prints in 2 corners i have exact alingment, and 2 others mismactch about 1mm
My Canons dont like duplexing #120..We just run it one side at a time... Our standard BC stock is #100 lb.. no prob duplexing there.. either way make sure the paper is consistent ....
So I’m about to ask my husband for that cutting machine. Any suggestions for a smaller one?
They make smaller table top machines too.
Any advise for a newbie ? I’m starting from home so everything I have is desk top
Baby steps. Pay cash for used machines and slowly build up your capabilities.
Are there any alternative electronic cutting machines similar to that one (affordable as well)?
You can pick up a smaller guillotine cutter for several hundred dollars. I just sold this one for $1200.
Would you be so kind of sharing the job ticket format?
You bet, you can download it here. www.dropbox.com/sh/5rurf3cz68nqmd9/AAAwFg24IcOB1S4lp75Sj6JPa?dl=0

Just about any printer would be fine for business cards. Canon, Konica and Xerox all make good machine. I like the ones I have.

whats the name of the machine you use to print the professional cards?
Konica c3070
Why wouldn't the US allow you to put stitches in brochures?
Its just anything that is shipped as a "letter". If you mail as a "flat" you can have staples.
Do you know of any software that will take billing details sent in text file into bills?
Sorry, I do not.
