- House of Marley Get Together Mini review and unbox. I have a few Bluetooth speakers, but I wanted to get a bigger one for the office so I came across this one. It looked really good, like really good and I had read different things about it, so I wanted to do my own review. I can tell you it definitely puts out some volume when compared with other bluetooth speakers and for what I paid, I think it is an absolute bargain. A magnetic cord is a great idea to preserve the life of the micro USB which is kind of flimsy.

I was gifted one of these and everyone is always shocked to hear the quality of sound coming out of it. I personally love it and the classic wooden look is cool as ever .
Hey Thanks for the comment, I still use mine quite often, and to be honest I originally bought it for its looks (love the look), it turned out to be a great purchase.
@@GarageKing bought mine the other day from a person who didnt use it and it is still inside the box untouch so basically its new but from my experience using it i cant seem to fully charge it. When i charge it with the adaptor that came with it it just blinks red and im having a hard time to turn it on. i charge it the whole night like more than 10 hours charge but its still the same red light is just blinking. I cant turn it on if its not plug in...kinda frustrating like i want to throw it in the garbage. What seems to be the problem? thanks
@@דקסטר-פ2כ For mine I bought a magnetic adaptor so I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging the connection, as its a pretty cheap connection. Like this amzn.to/4b79Por so if you have a good connection it should charge. I checked mine and when its charging the red light is on steady, and then when its done the red light turns off. so the flashing red must mean that it can't take a charge ? I looked for my manual but can't find it. Its probably either the connection, or the battery is bad.
@@GarageKing i had a volta magnetic cable which i bought 2 years ago and used it with this speaker but still, still the same problem. It would take you some time before you can turn it on and use the speaker like yesterday it took me 2 hours trying to connect. Anyways i ordered soundcore motion x600 last night and hopefully today i will receive it. Its just frustrating to have this piece of crap which is not cheap to buy but poorly or cheaply made but outward appearance looks quality. Its my first and will be the last for this brand. Going to the garbage. Wont recommend this crap. Thanks for your time and more power to your vlog mate!
I'm so particular about sound this speaker is so good, especially on the base! Sounds so good.
I'm pretty particular as well, I usually do a bunch of research and this one sounds good. The base is really good !!!
i appreciate the info, i find the color really nice and id have been disappointed if it didnt sound as good as it looks
The bass kid really good. The volume is really really. No troubles with sound pressure!!!
You can definitely tell the difference. We have a Bose and it is shockingly great when used as bluetooth; however, I wouldn't mind have something like this. The price is good and the review definitely helps one decide if it will work for them or not.
Thanks soo much for the comment :) I actually use it when I'm outside relaxing (when I get the rare chance haha!!!) It is a great unit. Thank You :)
This was a great review, I'm thinking of getting one of these for my backyard.
Thank you, it will go great in the backyard !!! Its actually plays quite loud!!
Shopping online is for the brave ones, lol. One has to buy after reading reviews and analyzing them. This is a juicy video, great recycling hey, the speaker looks so neat.
This one was good, the on line reviews were good, and I wanted to see for myself. I took a chance ordering on line, but it worked out :) I like that a big portion of the speaker is made from recycled materials :) Thank you for the comment :)
@@GarageKing looks so good, they are good at recycling. The speaker is well furnished.
@@GarageKing - The reviews are NOT that good. On Best Buy there are 104 five-star reviews and 37 one-star reviews. Way too many one-star reviews.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH It is possible that they downgraded the quality over time. I think the one star reviews are based on the mini USB connector. That connector was a mistake and I think that's why this speaker gets a lot of negativity, that and the fact you can't turn down the voice when it says charging, that part is annoying.
Really great review. Very comprehensive.
Thank you for the great comment, and hope you are enjoying your Saturday
Thanks GK, I managed to fix my jack problem on the mini however the larger Get Together had a battery issue. What annoys me is that the batteries in these units could have been designed to be easily replaced as opposed to what the Marley design team settled on. The current design has effectively put a use-by date on the likely hundreds of thousands of these units worldwide that will likely end up in a landfill. In a time when we need to be resource conscious why build obsolescence into their product?
I hear you, and the Marley really promotes reducing waste and recycling so I can't figure out why they would do that.
Nice review. I paid C$90 plus tax on sale for using with my computer. The sound is good in terms of C$90 but I will not pay more, with more money I would get the Edifier R1700BT except that one is not rechargeable/portable. Speaker (or brain?) break-in helped. The constant female voice of "charging" is a pain in the unmentionable part of the body. That means you will not be able to keep the unit charging all the time. I would have returned it if not for the deep discount price. In contrast, I usually listen with earbuds: Momentum TW, Jabra 85T/75T, Sony 1000XM3 and Mifo O7. I switch to the speaker sometimes when I want to give my ears some rest. And I do not carry a cell phone therefore I would not use the speaker for that purpose. And yes, music does sound better corded over BT. Micro-USB is yesterday's technology. The USB-out charging port is only 1A, pretty useless for quick charging a demanding smart phone. Yes the Bluetooth can be improved with aptX support. And it is not water-resistant like the JBL, Anker or DOSS so I do not know if it is a good idea to take it into the shower room.
Awesome comment and I agree with you. I got mine on sale, I think it was about 100, and I think it's worth that. There are better sounding units out there for sure. I use a magnetic cable on the rear so I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging the unit, as the quality of that connector on the rear is not the best. The one thing it does really have going for it, is its looks. I really like that, know I get it, you don't buy a speaker for looks, but in that department it's good. Bluetooth can definitely be improved and the "lady inside the unit" can get annoying. Your comment is bank on brother !!!!
You'd have to hear it in person... It's going through your microphone's & then it's coming through my phone... So, you can't really get a good gauge on its sound quality & volume... It sounded better in the red speaker....
Thanks for the comment. You hit the nail on the head, and that was the goal of this video, to provide a comparison to a cheaper small speaker. I understand, like you, that you really have to hear it in person, but at least you can hear in the video that its much better than one of those generic cheaper small speakers.
Which Bluetooth version is this? I just got my DOSS Sounbox Ultra for $119 and it's got BT 5.3. I really could not tell too much difference between wired and BT on your speaker though.
I'm not sure, but I think its probably 4.0 if I would guess.
Great review. I love the speaker. Instructions tell me it can be used with phone for conversation.and has builtin microphone. Can you tell me where the microphone is?
Thanks for the question, I just gave it a try with my Iphone 8 plus and when I make a call the music goes quiet and then its all through my phone. Maybe they did an update on the newer ones?? Mine can't do phone calls, and I just searched everywhere on the unit, and can't find a microphone on it.
@@GarageKing My thoughts too. Instructions tell me that there is a microphone; but I have searched and searched and tried many things... no microphone. Thanks for getting back to me.
@@georgiadawghouse Anytime, that's not good if it actually says that in the manual. My manual is long gone LOL:) or I would check my manual just to see what it says.
So i have 2 of these and of of them when switched on has a constant red light and it doesnt play anything unless its connected to the other speaker. Why is that?
That is weird and to be honest I'm not sure. I didn't know you could pair multiple Marley speakers. I thought you could only connect one at a time.
I’m having a problem connecting this speaker to the actual marley turntable?? The other two speakers connect no problem?
Hey Thanks for the comment. I don't have the marley turntable so I'm not too sure. I think it should work, especially if the other speakers connect. Make sure your Get Together is not actively paired with your phone or any other bluetooth device. It won't pair to more than one device at the same time.
The sound isn't so good on mine!
I'm not impressed with performance
But I love the look
Plus the marley signature😁🤣
Thanks very much for the comment :) I do notice that if you use a cord it does sound better. I'm like you and I love the look of it :)
3:50 Wait, will the battery actually last longer while the speaker is plugged in? I doubt it
It actually does as its charging as its playing. When mine is plugged in I can run it for hours. Its never died.
@@GarageKing Okay, but it is harmful for the battery to charge it all the time, right? One should keep it unplugged for a while
@@dedushkakrysh not harmful at all as the battery stops when its full. I leave mine on the charger all the time.
@@GarageKing Looks like, it's the only speaker in which the battery does that :)
@@dedushkakrysh To be honest mine stays as an office speaker and remains plugged in 24/7 and I havent had any issues at all. The one thing I did notice is the micro usb on the rear is a little flimsy and some others have had problems with it not charging after a while so I bought a magnetic cord from Amazon. This way I don't have to unplug and plug it back in if I move it. The magnetic part stays attached to the unit and the cord just sticks on. It will make the usb last longer. Something like this amzn.to/3OtAKkF
I wish it had a USB C port instead of a USB Mini. I'm not buying any more electronics with idiotic USB Mini ports. People are complaining of easily damaged USB ports on this unit and the very annoying voice that constantly talks to you, telling you it's charging, it's powering off, etc. This is a pass for me, not matter how cool looking it is. It's also too pricey in Canada now, $180 and it's even Amazon Prime day today. Not discounted at all.
I 100% agree with you, that USB mini is a pain. I actually bought a magnetic cord so I could stick the mini plug in there and leave it in there and then the cord just snaps on magnetically. Its getting too pricy and I think they want the Marley name to justify the price. I bought mine from Amazon.ca at the time, but it was only about 100, so for that it was worth it. I must say this is one bluetooth speaker that does have volume. Its loud and can be used as an outdoor speaker. But at the current price I think there better options. Thanks for the comment
@@GarageKing😊
My micro USB connector broke, so I don't think I can recharge!😢

Hi i got this one and love it but how do i change the language tho? I somehow pressed something and the language changed from English to Spanish. Thanks in advance for your help 😅
Hey Thats a great question, I just checked mine and I'm not sure. I did check Google, and it says to use the EQ button which is under the power button, but I can't find it???? There are only 4 buttons on top. I'm scratching my head on this one..
@@GarageKingthe Eq button. You’re welcome
@@garypinsker Thanks
Is 117€ a good price for the Netherlands (brand new). I am talking about the non-mini version
I think that is a good deal, I did the exchange from CAN $$ and for the non mini one (the bigger one) that is a pretty good deal. Just FYI they have a Get Together 2 now, its got a better battery for longer playing time, and 40 watts, but I have not heard it so I can't say how it sounds.
@@GarageKing Get together 2 is double the price and in my opinion it is ugly 😢
@@borisbakardzhiev1673 Oh I know and I agree with you, I was just letting you know in case you were not aware that's all.
@@GarageKing ok thanks mate. I am buying it and if I don't like it I can just return it.
@@borisbakardzhiev1673 Sounds good !!!
Big like
Thank you :)
i cant wrap my head around how this is an award winning sound system.
theres no stereo and no mids and no highs so no balance at all and all your getting is deep lows
so ultimately they sound like your holding a pillow over your speaker
i have a cheapy £15 Bluetooth speaker given to me for free with better balance
After reviewing different ones, this one is falling off my list quickly, and it is getting dated.
@@GarageKing can you recommend a good one? ideally with balanced low/mid/high and stereo lol
@@Rockysbeats I just bought a Bang and Olufson Beolit 20, they are discontinuing them, so if you can find one they are usually discounted. They can play very quiet if you want, and have very good low end extension, but not "boomy" bass. They are an audiophile quality speaker, it can get loud, but not as loud as the Marley. I find I play it around 50% volume most of the time and it sounds absolutely fabulous amzn.to/3USP5d1 BUT its still very expensive. Next up I would say the JBL sounds pretty good and is much more affordable. Its actually on a limited deal right now amzn.to/3Vc0Lck. If you are looking for louder music (like at a party go for the JBL)
Is it ok to play while charging, the battery will not damage??
You bet, that's what I do all the time. When I'm not outside, I use it in the office and leave it plugged in. Its currently on sale :) amzn.to/3AEO6Uh
Would have gotten this if it had stereo sound.
Ya, stereo would have been very cool indeed !!!
They look and sound good but they just don't last. Had both the mini and the full size versions and both went faulty in a few years and no one wants to fix them. Wont touch another Marley product again.
Hey there thanks for the comment. Mine is still good so maybe you got a bad one? Also I do know the connector for charging is really frail in the back and can break easily so I bought a magnetic cord to save the port (I know I shouldn't of had to do that) Maybe yours is just not charging anymore? Here is the type of cord I bought (I know your not going to buy it) but just so you know what it looks like. amzn.to/3YgBqxl
Just bought one used for £45
That's a good deal !!!
I'm going to buy one for the much the same, £40:00...
Is it louder then the megablast ue boom
I'm not sure, but it is quite loud. The only thing is even on the first bump its pretty loud so you can't play it really softly. I wish it had one more step down.
Can you connect it to the duo?
I'm not sure what you mean. What is the duo?
@@GarageKing the marley get together duo speakers
@@paris9887 Ahh, sorry about that. I haven't tried the duo speakers. They do look good, and I think would be great in a room as you would get some good sound separation with the stereo they provide. You peaked my interest as I may order a set. Sorry I can't answer your question, but that you for letting me know about these. I don't think you can connect the get together to the duo. I think the duo only go together.
Why would you want to do that, to be even louder with 3 speakers on the go at once, d'you mean ?..
@@vanman757 I think he means, setting them all apart in a room. That was my take, but not sure.
How’s the battery life ....
The battery life is really good, probably the two best things are how loud it can play and the battery life. There are other better sounding speakers out there, but for what you pay its a pretty good deal. Now with Christmas coming you may get a better deal, but here is what its going for on Amazon amzn.to/3E5JZPX
This is not the mini?!?
I think its the regular get together. I moved up to a B&O
Should I get it for 50$
For sure, if you can find it for 50 that is a very good deal for it.
Does it have good bass
@@correx_7748 Yup, the bass and volume is really good. It does get loud as well. It sounds better with the cord, and you can hear the difference between the bluetooth and wire. But the sound quality is still pretty good with bluetooth. There are better out there, but for 50 bucks I would grab it !!!!
Is that brand new or, second hand ?..
It’s a great speaker. All around it’s a wonderful sounding until. The battery doesn’t last for crap. I got 1 year out of it. It’s a throw away after about 18 months.
Good sound, but:
My Bluetooth Speaker after falling down once broken.
On my request, no spare parts or repair option.
Sustainability can only be achieved through circular economy and I feel screwed.
Quote website: "Every Marley product shows that responsibility to the environment is taken very seriously."
Such a thing is also called greenwashing and is even more disgusting than standing by one's greed for profit and, by the way, has nothing to do with Marley's values.
The "support" (only reachable by mail) didn't even understand what I mean at all.
I am very disappointed and can really no longer recommend these products to anyone.
For JBL, on the other hand, there are many spare parts. The Marley speaker now ends up in the trash can - really sustainable, really climate-friendly.
Ahhh sorry to hear that. Really sucks and I can understand where you are coming from. I didn’t know that parts were discontinued and you would think they could still make parts for it.
You must be test it while your moving, for testing the Bluetooth.
Ya, good point, walking around while it was playing would show it the signal was dropping out. Thanks for the comment, and good idea !!
Looks great, but sounds awful!
It does look good, I think it sounds pretty good, nothing like hearing it in real life. That is one of the things about youtube, the audio is very hard to replicate, and I'm not sure if youtube compresses the audio when I posted it. There are better sounding ones out there, but the one thing I can say is it's loud. The SPL on it is very good, and better than most bluetooth speakers. I do wish it sounded a bit better though. Thanks for the comment :)
@@GarageKing Yeah, you can't gauge it properly over UA-cam & then of course you've then got it going through the phone's speaker... Best to hear it in real life....
@@vanman757 You are right !!!
@@vanman757 - I'm listening to it on a laptop through $400 over the ear headphones and it doesn't sound great. But, to be fair, ALL speakers need to be demoed in person.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Yeah man...
house of marley 2 or bose max
Good question, I know I havent posted any bluetooth speaker reviews, but I did pick up a Bang and Olufson Beolit 20 and its the best bluetooth speaker I have heard. I think its better than their A5 model.
How to use mic
Hey there and thanks for the comment. There is no mic in this unit.
Stay away from these, they work intermittently, I have problems all the time.
Maybe you got a bad one, mine still works fine and I use it all the time. The only thing I really wish was the lady inside is too loud when she says "powering off" Also I wish it had one more step down for lower volume.
