I am 29 yo. I only figured out what I want to do last year. I truly and whole heartedly believe that you don't start finding yourself until your late 20's. You don't truly start living until your 30's. So don't be to hard on yourself or think to much of the future. Just do what feels right at that moment and you will be fine.
Girl everything you were saying about feeling directionless and being content being alone but being lonely ... I feel that. It's literally what is happening to me right now as well and I am like 6 years older than you. I chose to leave my career and restart so I am just working and trying to go back to school and have also drifted from friends and have distant friends as well and don't have that deep of relationships with my family so I 100% get what you said. All the best, it'll work out. Just remember to put yourself first.
7 years a hairstylist and going back to college 10 years later for dental hygiene, so I can relate to how you are feeling with not knowing what you want yet. I have felt stuck in so many situations in my life, doing things for other people or having a set expectation of what my success should look like, and each time I realized I needed change. Taking that jump is the scariest yet euphoric feeling, and it will force you to grow and outgrow new situation before it's time to jump again. You are doing great and it is so healthy to question your path and put time and effort into you. You got this. (side note) Love the Julia earrings! I wear them whenever I go out.
Hi - 32 year old here, who is just taking a degree for the first time in my life and let me tell you something I’ve learned and seen thousands of times : what career/job you choose now doesn’t have to be forever. If you pick something and hate it, find something else. My boss went back to school at 50 to the career she’s in now and loves. This is my third career change at 30. Don’t get stuck thinking you have to make the “right” choice right now. Pick something interest you and give it a go, you may love it you may hate it but you can change it whenever you want. There’s nothing stopping you from leaving. Take the pressure off, pick what’s important to you and just give it a go. Also don’t fall into the trap of “have to love your job”. Especially in business jobs, most of us settle for “don’t mind it and allows us the liberty/funds to live the life that matters outside of work”.
I’m getting sympathy anxiety about the career thing. I knew what I wanted to go into and how to do it in high school (I went the medical school route)and I’m now living the reality of my career and this still makes me anxious just thinking back and remembering that feeling of “what if this plan doesn’t work out….what if I make it and then hate it?” etc. I feel the butterflies and tension to this day 😬😆
9:42 yes go for for it! When I first got my hair done I got baby-lights and I loved it😍 Now I have more highlights and it makes me feel so pretty, especially when I curl it
I really understand you, I'm going through a situation similar to yours, for which I have two possible paths and I don't know which one to take, but my best advice is to inform yourself well about what each of those options has and which one you are most passionate about, and even, if you think that neither is yours, or you are not yet ready to decide, many people are traveling to a foreign country for a while to learn a language, which will increase your resume and give you unforgettable experiences, as well you will know yourself better. Take it easy and don't get carried away by what others say, it's your life and it's you who has to live it!
Thank you for the video. I hope that you enjoyed the cruise. I can related to mini life crisis, I've had 5 different careers since HS (18 to 25 currently) and found my dream career through trying different jobs ( exp: Yoga instructor and Product Tester). Know what you enjoy but also make sure that it's not too stressful.
I’m a rising sophomore at cornell and i relate so much to what you said about everyone wanting to do consulting/ib!! I think something that I’m going to try next semester is to find people who have more niche interests and try to get out of being swept up in the finance grind
I feel this! I'm the same age at a business school in New York where I feel like everyone has everything figured out! Personally I really, really think you'd be excellent at marketing - particularly digital or social media marketing! You can outlet your creative side and I have friends who say it has an excellent work life balance! Pays well too!
i so understand this video. you are not alone, there's a whole crowd of teenagers/young adults who have no idea what they wanna do in the world because there is *so much* to choose from. just know it's okay to change, it's okay to not know and it's okay to feel lost. i hope this doesn't come off as weird but i'd love to pray for you! the alone thing is so real of you tbh being alone is so much fun but being lonely sucks
First, I am so glad that you post this video. It was really nice to hear your voice and also recently I felt really lonely and confused just like you, so I wanted you to know that you’re not alone and you have my support. Also, I was wondering if you could make a video about friendships sense it’s a difficult topic for me, and I thought that maybe you would have some good advice. Lov you ❤❤❤❤
Girl I feel the EXACT same way. I’m feeling so much pressure from my mom to do something in medicine like her, which is actually the last thing I want right now. It’s always been my dream to do something with music or theater, so I’m going to shoot for that! Don’t give up and just keep on working to find something you love doing🩷 *Also- not me sitting here doing my nails while watching this😂
hey girll! about ur hair, get keratin in your hair! its a treatment thats very good for ur hair and straightens it out and how do u do your right hand so good?
Love ur videos! I've been feeling the same about life with career and "loneliness" (like alone but not lonely). I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one lol! Also if you have the gas station Wawa near you, it has the best mint matcha!
i just wanted to thank u, i followed you since your high school videos and now im on my way to being a junior in college and I also managed to be on the taekwondo team!, it’s been so incredible thanks to your videos that gave me the motivation i needed every day. but we need to admit we’re 20yo, currently the path i’m following its been fantastic but not fulfilling, i hope i can soon start college again with a career i trully love, we have the world ahead of us, don’t be afraid to choose what you love, because u thaught me that! 💕🌸
Don’t be super stressed about your first job out of college! If it’s not a great fit you’ll get yourself into a new job 1-2 years later and it will be perfectly fine. I have so many friends that have done that and you also end up making more money that way usually anyway. I think older people are not always the best resource with the job market now so take their opinions with a grain of salt, you’re not locked into anything and you went to an Ivy League school so that will carry you far already in American society. I still haven’t figured out if I like my job that much after 6 months but I work for a nice company that hires nice people and has great work life balance, a ton of vacation days and gets pretty good work for my field. I’m a bit bored day to day working in an office but a lot of places are remote now and I have that option as well. The farther you get in your career the less desk work you get as well - more meetings etc that’s more interesting (sometimes). My advice would be to learn a language with your extra credit hours at school that could lead to a lot of exciting opportunities in multinational businesses and open doors in a different direction from other people. Or take up a humanities minor/cert and try to go into business in those fields.
Hey Julia! Just wanted to let you know that I love your videos and that the lights from the nail polish cure can age your fingers a lot so you should wear sunscreen on your hand so you don’t eventually get wrinkly fingers. That was kind of a weird tip but hope you use it❤️
hey! i am totally in the same boat. I’m majoring in finance and always told myself and everyone I was going to get my CFA and become a financial advisor after college, but honestly the CFA is so damn difficult i don’t even feel it’s worth it. I don’t go to a well known school so the chances of me going into careers that actually require it are slim. So i’m having a career crisis rn too. I’m gonna be a junior this fall and it is rlly stressful trying to decide what you wanna do. you’re definitely not alone. this actually made me feel better abt my situation too. Maybe you could look into being a product manager or something along the production/designing area.
maybe you would like marketing!! that way you can be creative and work on projects w others and by yourself. also i like trader joe’s matcha and it’s cheaper! (it’s pretty sweet though), costco also has really good mango sticky rice LOL
About you having just a curly patch of hair in the back could be because of hormonal change. For example if you recently started to take birth control or if you for some recent have eaten foods that have more hormone in them (sounds weird I know). Disclaimer, I'm not an expert or anything just a nerd and like to theorise! Thanks for your catch up 😊
The nails fall off naturally on their own after about a 3-4 weeks! If you want to take them off beforehand, you can soak them in acetone and remove them like that too!
I just turned 34 last week and feel directionless and have no shiz figured out. I have nothing figured out. I work a job I hate, my mental and physical health suck, and I live alone and can barely afford life. It sucks. I just keep going each day and it’s hard. I’m lonely by choice, but I also hate it.
It’s very normal to not know what you want to do post college. Those who have their hearts set on a career and go straight into graduate school, or into a well-paying job are the loud minority. We shouldn’t feel ashamed to not know off the top of our heads, especially since schools don’t do a good job in educating us on the careers out there. It’s better to take your time than to rush yourself when you’re not ready.
I had a conversation with this person who majored in marketing and she told me even if you get a degree in that field of study. It does not mean you will always end up there. I can't emphasize enough that you are not making a life-long decision about "what you want to be when you grow up." I know people who've changed careers in their 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. So, please don't feel stuck. When I read Michelle Obama's book Becoming, the big thing she emphasized multiple times was that it's totally okay to not know what you want to do for a living, at ALL ages.
