Blueboy, 'A Gentle Sigh' @ Water Rat's, London 18.5.24

Last night was an important one: Blueboy's full band reunion show and single launch at the smokingly hot Water Rat's. I was nervous about it because these songs stir up so many emotions that I probably try to keep down and hidden much of the time. Their duo performance at Rough Trade in January took my breath away.
The second half of the set was the full band or 'full fat' version with drums, bass and electric guitar! There were so many songs I wanted to record but I am not one of those bores who films a whole gig - I want to dance! The band were really rocking out in this set and it was such a delight. So many bands as they get older will only do the softer, gentler songs and they'll veer towards sitting down and getting out the acoustic instruments (Suede excepted of course, who are even more feral and ferocious these days). I loved that Blueboy here were rocking out with these glorious songs - do it!
I also loved Paul pulling his guitar god shapes - especially at the end of the song - in his gentlemanly vintage 30s/40s outfit. It cuts a very distinct shape!
