Most useful hack- seatbelt chime disabled Most interesting hack- password unlock button Hack I wasn't expecting- put your key in rest mode (doing that to my spare)
The firmware on the auto start stop was actually part of a recall in 2020. Bring in your 2020 legacy or outback to the dealership and they'll update the firmware for free and the auto start stop button will be on the home screen.
Another nice thing about doing this technique once you get it done did I say you have to do it three times I think I did another nice byproduct of this is now cruise control will activate without you having to put the seat belt on, so this sequence does more than just stop the chime noise it also bypasses the ability to turn on the cruise control without having to put the seat belt on. And it kind of makes sense that both of those things are tied together
Unfortunately I have found for some reason the car will occasionally rescan and no longer recognize me. Don't know why but it is annoying that at one stop light I get the white disable auto start and then the next stop light its enabled. And then when I get to my destination it asks me to setup. It's odd and happens every time.
you can add the "auto start stop" icon to your main page and just simply tap it every time you get in instead of going through the several steps you went through to turn it off
3.39 - i have a 2020 forster and that locke button can be used to reopen the boot as it is closing if required without having to wait for it to close completely
you have totally missed the point of the pin code. It is so you can lock the key in the car, while you go off on your wilderness adventure, without fear of breaking your very costly electronic key fob.
Is the seatbelt alarm tip seat specific? I don't see any reason to disable the driver seat, however in my 2017 Crosstrek any weight above about about 30 lbs will trigger the passenger seat alarm. would be nice to be able to fix that issue, but I'd be concerned about how that ties into the airbag systems as well.
So what happens if a bad guy at a parking service sets the rear hatch while you're doing something? Does that mean at a later time you could have your auto broken into or do you need to reset the passcode every time?
Regarding auto stop/start - you can turn on the back defogger and that will work in the meantime. Supposedly you can ask the dealership to disable the feature but who knows what that may do to your warranties.
My dealership did a software update that adds a button to the console that turns auto start/stop off. It still comes back every time I stop and restart, but pushing one button is easier than the tap dance I had to do before. ... By the way, my dealership also told me that within the next few years it will be illegal for new cars to include the ability to turn auto start/stop off.
By the way there is a gas cap lock override it's a single fuse just for that and all you have to do is pull the fuse but you will get a light on your dashboard that you can't turn off. It's some kind of a gas cap warning light and again if you look cool inspection State like California that's not going to pass inspection if that light is on and you have that fuse pulled so make sure you put your fuse back in for that particular thing when you're having your car inspected
The PIN code is great when you don't want to be carrying your key FOB around with you eg going to the beach or a run or cycling or going for a swim. Just lock the key FOB in the car before you leave then use the code to access the car.
Two problems: 1. You don't want accidentally leave your key in the car and lock the car. So normally a car shouldn't allow you to lock it when a key is inside 2. 5 digit pin is not something very secure. If you leave your car on the same parking everyday, pin could be bruteforced in a week or so
1. You disable the keyfob proximity function so you are able to leave the keys in the car. 2. The code is set by you and would mean something only to you.
😁nice tricks...here one more! To stop the Engine from shutting down @Stops😳 Press /activate the Rear (defroster!) Works Temporary 15min, without all those long steps...Just press once, no distractions..Warning in summer you might want to do long way😁glass/mirrors will warm up😂Happy Travels..👍and if you have Ventilated seats..just long press to turn off, instead of 3times😁
That's interesting. There is a way to put the auto start stop button on your home screen as a shortcut too, easier to disable that way. Not sure if it's available in older years but it's there in '22
There's also a way to override the cruise control needs to have you drive over 19 miles an hour in order for it to be activated again from when you turn the car on, I've also I'm looking into a truck and I think it works so that your TPMS will activate before you start rolling after an ignition cycle on I don't recall how that I'm still looking into that
I'm waiting for my new Outback Touring XT to arrive. In the mean time ... does the horn chirp every time you lock the car? If so, is there a way to disable that?
Thank you for posting this. Suggestion: less preamble, get right to the hack. Also, I recently had a software update done on my 2020 Outback and the new version shows the auto start/stop icon at the bottom of the home screen on the nav panel. so it makes it a lot easier to turn off right away.
Have a 2022 Legacy Touring XT - no such button - but a work-around is to drop into neutral right when u come to a stop - and then back into drive when the light changes
Worth noting that if you use the process to lock your car and leave the engine running, that disables unlocking using the pin! Don't think you can leave the engine running, car locked and your keys in the car.
A button the disabled button down sort of below the the dash gauges, they took it off of the software menu so that's kind of nice you just reach down there and plunk it every time you start the car no big deal I think if you hold that button down and then start the car it might freeze it out so it will stay it will always be disabled even when you turn the car off and then back on again it's very similar to the seat belt clicking hack 30 times thing 👍
The seatbelt thing is great l, I often carry heavy camera bags in my passenger seat and hate the seatbelt warnings, gonna try this out when the wife returns with the brand new outback!
Oh my the seatbelt thing is ridiculous without this secret even when you drive 20 feet it chimes and keeps chiming even though you pulled over and are stopped, love this car but without this hack, I would go crazy.
Is there a way stop the dinging when you have the rear hatch open I often carry lumber that is longer then the car and I wanna get rid of that annoying dinging sound
Good info and the secret button press would have probably helped when this happened.... I tried to start the car from inside my home to get the a/c running as it was 95 out. But the app just seemed to go into ‘wait’ mode with a spinning ‘I’m thinking’ sign. So I closed the app and headed out for work. Got into the car and push started with the button. Found I needed something and as I got out the lights and beep went off 4 times. I didn’t think anything of it so I got out and closed the door. When I returned the car was locked and the fob would not operate. None of the buttons. My car was running and my phone was in the car and I was locked out. Not even the proximity handle would operate. Went in and go the spare fob but it would not operate either?? Looked on internet and realized I could use the valet key so went back out and remembering the secret button I pressed it for a long time and the car just began beeping at me with one long beep. Realizing I never set the button up I tried the valet key which at this point wouldn’t work so I went back to the internet and after finding nothing decided to retry the valet key. The long steady beep stopped while I was inside the house so I tried the valet key and it worked this time. I was able to get to work and left the car unlocked because I didn’t know what I had messed up. Going back to the car later everything operated as normal again. Fob and all. So I set a secret code just in case and locked the car with the fob. Now I get 5 beeps when I lock it instead of just one!? But it works as normal otherwise. Now what??
My mom drives an outback and as she was going around to the drivers side while the garage door was opening she wasn’t aware of the wave to open the lift gate and as she shuffled behind the car the trunk opened and hit the garage door as it was opening, now there is a good size dent on the bottom on the tailgate so just be careful.
I can't drive in stealth mode with the headlights off ever, not really stealth but I'm going to drive in movie theater and I just have to open my door something or start the car to warm it up I can't keep the headlights off and yeah sure the parking lights but sometimes the screen brightness kills it
Just got a 2021 with the touring package and bummed to learn that it has no remote start. Just can't figure why. That getting louder chime with the seat belt is WOKE BS!! Good tips
Does the secret pin stay programmed if you have to disconnect your battery for different types of service and obviously if it I would imagine you'd have to redo your PIN if you add a key fob to service I mean so you know put another key fob in play for the vehicle.
To get rid of the stupid (Calif. Tree Huggers) on/off feature go to the dealership and they will install a computer chip that has an icon on the screen. When you start the car just tap the icon and you are free of that unwanted feature until you stop the engine. It is fabulous. Any mechanic would tell you the hardest thing for an engine is turning it on.
hold info button and press tune knob twice, it will allow you into settings that allow you calibrate the backup cameras on screen guides. From there you can leave that on while driving.
2021 Outback Touring- we have the Nav system but we notice that unless you put an address in, the cross street names do not appear. also, how do you turn "off" the Nav audio? not turn it down to "0" but turn it off. even at "0" it gives instrcutions which dims the current audio source.
(6:48) So, to get into the car when key is unavailable, one has to click that single fingerpad on the liftgate the number of counts for each of the 4 to 5 digit code that was programmed. Well, forget about emergencies. And forget about higher count digits. Most people will tend to use lower count digits, and that will make it easier to figure out the code. Subaru, take this back to the drawing board.
This isn't a real world concern. It takes a decent amount of time to attempt a single entry (5 digits, clicking up to 10 times for each one, waiting between each digit). Also, after 5 incorrect attempts, there is a 5 minutes cool-down. So even if you can do it fast enough to do one attempt per minute, you are still looking at 5 attempts every 10+ minutes. And if you put a secure pin thats higher in digit then it provides even more security. A zero requires 10 presses, so if you put a pin with high digits they'd be there for days. That's also assuming they even know about the feature, and if they assume you even have a pin set. It's pretty secure.
There is one thing i dont like about this outback remote key start. Even when its freezing cold and you set the heat on 85, the AC always comes on. Is there anyway to turn off the AC when you start the car remotely?
THANK YOU so much for the tip about the way to silence the annoying chime on the Outback. I’m getting some sanity back. Now if you can discover the Easter egg that will permanently disable the automatic engine turn off, I’ll take you to lunch! Thanks again.
Great Video! I just purchased a new outback and have a question about something covered in the video. If I disable the chime, would removing/replacing a fuse or two have the same effect as disconnecting the battery?
Use your head. And probably will be able to figure it out. Let’s think of it as a microwave that looses its time if it looses power. If your neighborhood looses power (like removing the battery) does it reset? If you unplug your toaster does that reset the microwave??? Does flipping the breaker in your breaker box that powers your kitchen where the microwave is plugged in at reset the microwave?????? All the same logic... here.. What if you remove the fuse for the HVAC system? Will that reset it? If you are looking for the fuse to pull; what fuse, leading to what component do you think will reset the system? I don’t even know but I have a pretty educated guess that I won’t tell you. But will give you a hint on this guess just in case you can’t figure it out.... I’ll wait .... Let’s think logically (I know hard to ask in UA-cam comments) what is the thing responsible for alerting you, both audibly, and visually that the seatbelt is unlatched 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 hmm this is tough. Using my brain is hard maybe I should leave a UA-cam comment...
In hot climates, the shutting off of the engine also stops the air conditioner. The blower continues cuz it is electric and eventually blows out the cool and then hot.
@@matthewmcfadden9909 On my 2020 it will restart engine when it gets warmer. I want auto stop to do more stopping of engine when I am at a long light. Many times it will just stay in idle mode and waste gas. I can't believe people will pay $99 to eliminate something that saves them a little money!
@@P_Rund1952 Living in Phoenix (heat) and sitting in traffic, nothing is more annoying than 1) having the engine shut off and losing the AC 2) Stepping on the accelerator and having the car hesitate because it needs to restart. This is annoying enough that Subaru surfaced the autostart-stop button to the top of the GUI on the head unit in the December '20 update to shut it off. Hondas have a physical button to shut it off as well.
The PIN access applies to all Subaru's with keyless start, across the range since they first came out. Most sedans don't have the extra button, so you just use the trunk release button to enter the PIN instead.
I know it's a lot of comments for me to Wade through I'm going to have to go in and edit these pretty soon. What I had for the for the putting in the pin sequence so that you can unlock a car and by the way that button you're talking about is on all the models whether there's a motorized hatch or not just so you know. Should we do this with the engine off? Cuz I try with the engine on and I'm getting a long tone from the out the outside speaker the one that you get like if you have your parking brake on and you open your car door and leave the parking brake on you got that long tone that's outside of the car, that happens but I had my car running when I tried to put in the pin I think I have to have the car turned off when I do the pin and should I roll the window down and have all the doors closed or is it okay to have the front door open when I do this for the you know putting in the five digit PIN By the way I found out that the Android firmware hack allows you to create up to an eight digit PIN or down to a three-digit pin which is kind of nice little quicker access. You can also use the same button pin combo sequence that you create on the inside of the car in order to start the car without the key fob. This technique is done by pressing in the rear window child lock button to lock then using the left rear window button now deactivated, type in the five digit PIN you created for your trunk and your car will start you'll have 30 seconds to hold the brake down and press the start button without the key fob because you've entered the pin correctly. If you enter the pin incorrectly your car may go into emergency cutoff mode which will then require you to have the key fob or they'll have to enter that pin again in order to reset it but you'll have to enter the pin correctly otherwise it's going to stay in auto theft mode. Don't get it wrong of course another way to reset it is you guessed it all the negative terminal off the battery wait 20 minutes and then put it back on all of the little tricks will be reset, unless of course you have the Android hack firmware setup you can enter the pin on the infotainment screen and you can also have your car memorized all of its settings from when you unplug the battery

Plus now, if I have passengers and need to run back to the house or something, there is NO MORE LOUD CHIMING. As I clicked, 20 times, I thought to myself is this really going to work? It did! How on earth did you ever discover this! Russ- Largo, Fl 2019 Ascent
I found it on a forum from 10 years ago🤣 glad I could help!
Most useful hack- seatbelt chime disabled
Most interesting hack- password unlock button
Hack I wasn't expecting- put your key in rest mode (doing that to my spare)
The firmware on the auto start stop was actually part of a recall in 2020. Bring in your 2020 legacy or outback to the dealership and they'll update the firmware for free and the auto start stop button will be on the home screen.
Hey ... thanks for the video it’s really helpful but I have a question how can I download navigation or GPS on a Subaru 2020 outback ?
Is there an equivalent of that seatbelt trick that works for the rear hatch being open while driving?
Interesting...I don't think so. Nothing that I am aware of anyway.
Wow, Excellent and super helpful! Thanks!
Don’t forget the rear seats tilt back a bit...
Set up a drive profile (the thing that scans your face) and it will save all your settings
Unfortunately I have found for some reason the car will occasionally rescan and no longer recognize me. Don't know why but it is annoying that at one stop light I get the white disable auto start and then the next stop light its enabled. And then when I get to my destination it asks me to setup. It's odd and happens every time.
you can add the "auto start stop" icon to your main page and just simply tap it every time you get in instead of going through the several steps you went through to turn it off
Just installed an 'auto stop eliminator' in my 2020 TouringX. Best hundred bucks you will ever spend...
Interesting, I may make a video about this on my tech channel! Thanks!
I'll second the Auto Stop Eliminator. It works like a charm and wasn't difficult to install.
Cheaper than buying a new starter motor every 60,000km after the warranty runs out.
3.39 - i have a 2020 forster and that locke button can be used to reopen the boot as it is closing if required without having to wait for it to close completely
Thanks for all the the info.
Thanks for watching, John!
you have totally missed the point of the pin code. It is so you can lock the key in the car, while you go off on your wilderness adventure, without fear of breaking your very costly electronic key fob.
I mentioned that in my recent video for the Outback Wilderness! Definitely great for that
Thanks for your excellent video
Glad you enjoyed!
Dude the trunk password is a game changer! Thanks
Absolutely! Glad I could help
The seatbelt chime is helpful for people that like putting groceries on their passenger seat and don’t want the chime.
Do you press the 'lock' on the fob after entering each number on the car trunk button?
Two problems:
1. You don't want accidentally leave your key in the car and lock the car. So normally a car shouldn't allow you to lock it when a key is inside
2. 5 digit pin is not something very secure. If you leave your car on the same parking everyday, pin could be bruteforced in a week or so
1. You disable the keyfob proximity function so you are able to leave the keys in the car.
2. The code is set by you and would mean something only to you.
software upgrade provides new auto start stop button on the main screen
I’ve seen a lot of comments like this one, that’s awesome! I’m glad they’re listening and adapting
Turning it off is already habit with me. Its not even an annoyance anymore it takes so little effort being on the home screen.
I've seen a few others point out the same thing! That is super helpful, Thanks for sharing!
That's interesting. There is a way to put the auto start stop button on your home screen as a shortcut too, easier to disable that way. Not sure if it's available in older years but it's there in '22
There's also a way to override the cruise control needs to have you drive over 19 miles an hour in order for it to be activated again from when you turn the car on, I've also I'm looking into a truck and I think it works so that your TPMS will activate before you start rolling after an ignition cycle on I don't recall how that I'm still looking into that
very helpful!! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
How do you disable the rear seat belt chime? It’s so loud and annoying to any adults that have to sit in my back seat!
I'm waiting for my new Outback Touring XT to arrive. In the mean time ... does the horn chirp every time you lock the car? If so, is there a way to disable that?
Turn on rear defogger, that should keep your auto start/stop off.
Great video. Thanks for sharing and helping others.. Have the same car and same color but Limited edition
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
I need to change the weather state in my 2022 outback can you help ?
Thank you for the infos.
I’m in the EXACT same situation! Definitely helpful
Oh my the seatbelt thing is ridiculous without this secret even when you drive 20 feet it chimes and keeps chiming even though you pulled over and are stopped, love this car but without this hack, I would go crazy.
When placing heavy bags on empty seat, just buckle the empty seat's seat belt. Boom.
The open trunk wave feature never works when I want it to and always works when I'm trying to clean the rear window.
will the seat belt alarm trick ( connect 20 times) work on a 2018 outback?
Is there a way stop the dinging when you have the rear hatch open I often carry lumber that is longer then the car and I wanna get rid of that annoying dinging sound
Just did the seat belt trick on my Outback 2022 and it works!!!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 But not for the back seats 😫
What about the back seats? TY for the seatbelt hack!!!!!
Thanks for the seatbelt tip ......I'm a quadriplegic now but at least I don't have to listen to that annoying chime ever again.
fair trades imo
@@BachmanAutoGroupLouisville Indeed sir .....indeed.
Now what??
Thank you young man. You remind me of my late husband Oliver.
For the stop-start, I’ve heard to turn on the rear defroster
Interesting! I’ll have to check that out
This does work
My mom drives an outback and as she was going around to the drivers side while the garage door was opening she wasn’t aware of the wave to open the lift gate and as she shuffled behind the car the trunk opened and hit the garage door as it was opening, now there is a good size dent on the bottom on the tailgate so just be careful.
Oof...yeah that is unfortunate! Sorry to hear that
I did the same thing, two days after buying. No dent, just a scrape or two.
We need a hack to allow the rear view camera to stay on when driving
Why do you need the rear camera while driving? I could see it staying on for 10 seconds or so.
@@johnturner9924 The more visibility the better
@@BrianBattles Ahhh, you should be looking out the windshield. It comes on only when you really need it.
@@setlikeamf Like the rear and side mirrors...I like as much visibility as possible
hold info button and press tune knob twice, it will allow you into settings that allow you calibrate the backup cameras on screen guides. From there you can leave that on while driving.
I have the similar issue with the 2022 version the AVH turns off every-time i turn off the car and turn back on
2021 Outback Touring- we have the Nav system but we notice that unless you put an address in, the cross street names do not appear. also, how do you turn "off" the Nav audio? not turn it down to "0" but turn it off. even at "0" it gives instrcutions which dims the current audio source.
Can you start the car with the secret pin and no fob?
You have a great video personality! Thought sleep mode for the key fob was the best hidden feature. How do you turn it back on?
Thanks so much for the kind words, Fred!
Pushing any button will wake it back up!
I agree. Key Fob Sleep Mode is great for when you're washing the car!
Disabling the set belts won’t disable the air bags??? 🤔🤔🤔
Will that "secret code" to unlock the Subaru work for the 2020 Hybrid Crosstrek????
Good question. If it has the lock button on the rear gate then yes. We hardly ever see hybrids here so I’m not positive if it has it or not
You had me laughing at 0:15 seconds!
does the wave to open applies to all trims?
Unavailable on the Base model. Optional on Premium. Standard on the Limited and above!
Cargo cover storage compartment under rear floor
how to disapble the back seat chirp?
There is one thing i dont like about this outback remote key start. Even when its freezing cold and you set the heat on 85, the AC always comes on. Is there anyway to turn off the AC when you start the car remotely?
Mate, the pin code trick is in my 2016 model. Any new features in tge OB other than the big screen?
This video may help! ua-cam.com/video/Gww7M100_oc/v-deo.html
Mate, the PIN code feature was in my 1995 Legacy 250T and 1997 Grandwagon (early Outback).
Does the seatbelt affect warranty or the safety/function of the actual seatbelt?
No not at all. Simply disables the chime
I believe if something were to happen that Involved the seatbelt, insurance would give you hell to cover it.
I doubt that. There are innumerable vehicles that don’t have seatbelt chimes
THANK YOU so much for the tip about the way to silence the annoying chime on the Outback. I’m getting some sanity back. Now if you can discover the Easter egg that will permanently disable the automatic engine turn off, I’ll take you to lunch! Thanks again.
😆 Happy to help, Roger!
Thanks for watching
Apparently foresters have the wave open lift too
Is there a way to decrease the volume of the turn signal clicker. Although it is lower volume than the 2015 the touring 2022 is still loud.
Not from anything I've seen
I’ll wait
....
@@EndOfLineTech If you could spell, your comment might be worth a little more. But not much.
I LOVE auto start/stop! It saves fuel and maintains my fuel economy rating.
Great info. Thanks I have subscribed to your channel. We have 2020 and 2017 Outback Limiteds.
Thanks so much, Tim! Glad the video was helpful
Your such a cool dude! I didnt know you could set a password for the outback, and i didnt know you could get rid of that annoying chime!
😎 Glad I could help! Thanks for checking out the video, Matt!
Cuz I try with the engine on and I'm getting a long tone from the out the outside speaker the one that you get like if you have your parking brake on and you open your car door and leave the parking brake on you got that long tone that's outside of the car, that happens but I had my car running when I tried to put in the pin I think I have to have the car turned off when I do the pin and should I roll the window down and have all the doors closed or is it okay to have the front door open when I do this for the you know putting in the five digit PIN
By the way I found out that the Android firmware hack allows you to create up to an eight digit PIN or down to a three-digit pin which is kind of nice little quicker access.
Loved the key to the secret code and the disabling of the seatbelt chime!
