Double Bass Harp Harmonics Study: Shifting Gears
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 сер 2021
- This exercise is focused on phasing a pulse based in 7 against a steady melodic three note pulse. This phasing is then layered with the concept of "shifting gears", a rhythmic technique I picked up from the great jazz guitarist Miles Okazaki. "Shifting gears" is when one interprets the same pulse as having two different subdivisions-in this case for the first half a subdivision of two and for the second half a subdivision of three. Hopefully it all comes together to make something interesting to listen to and fun to play!
My tuning for this is A-E-B-D from high to low.

Whoah you are doing some incredible stuff here man
Yer sound is huge
Bass is literally the coolest of the violin family
Fun fact! The bass is technically not a member of the violin family but a member of the violone family, which is why it's tuned in 4ths instead of 5ths like the rest of the strings. Basses are also thicker (front to back) in comparison to other string instruments and also have more sloping shoulders, which are remnants of it's origins. Some very old double basses are even modified from 5 or 6 string violones!
@@stephanepetiet412 I don't know if Paul Brun would agree with you on this.
@@stephanepetiet412 Not exactly. Tuning in 4ths also doesn't really matter, double bass was tuned in fifths for a while (in some areas) but mostly abandoned due to limitations in string technology.
