For the people that don’t know Sean was riding a moped for b role and ended up low siding it in a parking lot and that’s where all the road rash is from.
Am 63, riding since age 9 . I still have my 1972 Honda Z50A MiniTrail, all original in exc condition parked next to a 99 Busa and a Vulcan Voyager. Never part with your first bike is my motto,
That's cool. Unfortunately most of us have to part ways with out first bike to afford our second one, I had to. But I went back and bought a Suzuki TS185 recently, which was my first bike. Oh the smell of an old 2 stroke! And I'm off tomorrow into the back country of Australia on my 02 Blackbird. Sun's out guns out!
Gold wheels.....DO IT! I bought my boy a honda mini trail back in the 80's. That thing was so much fun. And like you said, those little honda 50cc's were bulletproof!
It's been more than a half-century since the mid-1960's but I had a sweet Candy Apple Red Z-50A; the Honda Mini-trail. 28 MPH top end. Great memories learning to ride a dirt bike.
Back in the 60s and 70s people used to buy those little Motorcycles and tie them to their motorhome or travel trailer. When they got to the park then they could ride that around to visit everyone and have fun. Not to mention the fun us kids were having riding those.
In the 80's you often found them at fairs and shows that you could pay a bit to ride them in a paddock or bailed off area, sure one of these were my first motorbike ride
I had a '76 CT70 as a teenager, sold it and bought a Yamaha XT500. Wish I had keep the CT70, I would love to have it now. I also wish I had keep my '63 Impala SS convertible.
My first bike was a 72 Z50 with full suspension, folding handlebars and it had all the lights making it street legal. It had the clutchless 3 speed transmission.
Did it come with the license plate bracket on the rear? If not I don't believe that was actually street legal, I have a 71' z50, and from my research over the years I've had it since a kid(33now) I've read that 71' was last year actually street legal and comes with license plate bracket..
When I was a kid there was a bitter rivalry between the kids who rode the 2-stroke Suzuki PV and the kids who rode Honda Monkey. My younger brother had one of those 3-speed semi-automatic Monkeys. It was a lot of fun.
I just started watching the video and saw your arms. I immediately thought of the last video and started laughing. I only laugh at my close friends after bike injuries so I guess you're in that club now. =)
Wore the crap outta my z50 till it wouldn't start anymore. Dad taught me, new rings, lapped the valves (we were cheap). It ran good as new. On top of the world! I rebuilt an engine! At 12
Did the same but i had a Yamaha Chappy 50cc 3speed from1982 bought for 50$ and sold for 450$. I was 12 when i rebuilt that thing, without Internet or any adult that could help me. It was in bad shape, it was really nice when it was put back. i remove engine and toke it apart completely and the rest of the whole bike. Yamaha Chappy was around same size as Monkey Z50. But Yamaha chappy had 2stroke. Little easier to work on. At 13 i started to drive around on the streets with it. sold it 2yrs later when i was 15yrs old. At 15 here in Sweden i was allowed to drive moped's. But at 15 i was bored of moped's. So i got a Yamaha YZ80cc around 1992 for 100$ i rebuilt, It was Air cooled YZ80cc from 1980. That engine was similar to yamaha DT50 Moped. I used YZ80 as a moped on the streets. because Police had no chance to get me on that, It was quick. Love that YZ80. And i had Uniden handheld police scanner in my plugged in to my ears when i drove around on that :). I heard everything from Police. Good old times. It was so fun back then. Try things out by yourself. Nowadays people just go to internet and get guides and tips from others, and everything are served on a plate.
Cool model. Owned a new 1990 model back in the early 90's, it was black with red wheels and most of the frame. It did not have any speed warning light only the neutral one, chrome fuel tank cap, a back and forwards tilting handlebar and not this older style one, and a different tailight, and same 4 speed. Just adding at one time a 16mm carburator with inlet and small mofication to the exhaust, gave it's lots more power and it could do easily 65 Kmh. There were already back then btw also 70 and 85cc kits amo for these engines. Check out also btw the Suzuki PV 50, owned one of those also back in the 90's, i believe they were made between 1981 - 2002-??, they could also be had with 5 speed and 60 - 70 - 80cc kits.
Great Video! I have a '84 Golden Monkey with .07 Kilometers and two '96 Golden Monkeys .08 kilometers and .09 kilometers. About to build my "Monkey Cage" to display them in my home
we have these here in Cyprus...1 is very special...it has a custom yoshimura exhaust, delordo carburator, mallosi air filter and takegawa parts...cranckshaft,piston and oil cooler...we have also honda chaly...full takegawa, landie A100 moded...piston,cilinder,carb,sprockets,front disk brakes...but our favorite is honda chaly...some of them reach upwards of 5-6k euro with all the mods..absolute rockets
I had chance to ride a Honda Monkey in 1975, they were very popular in Finland. They went away in 1980s. Suzuki and European moped manufacturers brought out their own versions of Monkey. Finnish kids would illegally modify mopeds. That they were fast motorcycles. Easily go over 50-60 and faster mph. When mopeds were made to 20mph.
As a kid, My First Honda was a QA50. Then Later a Z50 with the fold down handle bars, headlight, and tail light. But no turn signals or license plate frame.
I see the road rash is healing well. Also I don't know what that orange bike is during the comms portion but that is one futuristic sleek looking bike. Beautiful.

Back in the early 80's Yamaha had a line of cruiser styled bike with a black and gold styling called midnight specials. They even had a 50cc two stroke version. For some reason young Detroit city gang members took a liking to them. One of the most amusing spectacles that i have ever seen while on two wheels is seeing a large group of those guys riding down Woodward Avenue running every red light in the middle of the night while wearing their helmets strapped but perched completely on top of their heads. Guess that that was their look and they were styling. Being the pecker wood that i was at the time i rode circles around them doing wheelies on my new at the time red and white Honda CB1100F much to their amusement. Sometimes i miss the 80's.
The Z50 was my first motorcycle. My dad bought it for me to use in about 1980. I was six. I couldn't even touch the ground. Dad would sit on the back with me and put his feet down when we stopped. I rode it until I was 10, and then he bought me a Yamaha 125 dirt bike. Man, those are some great memories.
The real competition was with Honda and the 2stroke Suzuki PV50. These things, at least in our little Finland flooded the roads NOT SO LONG AGO 😂 You were able to start driving them legally at 15y without any schooling etc, and we did everything to them 💯 It actually feels quite crazy driving these well over 100km/h. I bet they reinforced the new 125 Monkeys but don't know for sure, haven't got my hands on one yet.
The Honda MiniTrail 50 was automatic but did kind of had a clutch. Three speeds all down but they do not engage until the shifter is let off of. In neutral, push down on the shifter and keep it down, that’s the clutch. Same on 2nd and 3rd as well. I owned one 45 years ago, it was the first major purchase of my life. I could get into the back of moms mercury marquis with the handle bars folded down.
When I was a kid my dad was an international airline pilot. He brought a blue one for me a candy apple red for my sister and he had a trail 90 that he paid $92 for in Japan and brought it on the empty airplane home. This was all in 1970 and 1971.
Everyone needs one of these just to ride to work and back. You arrive to work in a good mood ready for the day. Then after a hard day at work you enjoy a fun ride home.
i have a clone of the honda z50j gorilla but modern. i heavily modified an icebear leo to have a 150cc engine, billet inverted forks, extended swing arm, custom exhaust, 10" billet rims with billet hubs and dual front and rear brake disks. its my daily rider to and from work. shes a beast and gets a lot of looks. had a big storm at work once so i was able to fold the bars and fit it in the back of my buddies Prius lol. i made a custom rack on the back of my jeep to carry it for longer road trips like to the beach.
I believe the 100 in the Z100 was for the length or wheel base in centimeters. There were a few Chinese models that had the wheel base numbers in the name in the 70s to 90s.
We’ve got a 69 silver tag z50a we abused as kids since early 80’s. I finally did a bit of a restore on it and it’s sure a fun little bike. Looks a lot better now too.
I have a '78 Z50A with a modded yx160 that does 81mph. They are a blast to zip around and are so responsive with the smaller (mine has 12" billets) wheels and super light weight.
Love the Monkey history. I got rid of my evil Husqvarna supermoto, 570 smr.. ..and bought a lovely Honda Z 125 Monkey, 2023. It's not fast against the wind; it's not fast at all, but I love it.
I was waiting for you to finish off with the harley bagger monkey. I need all those facts, hopefully that gets its own video or hopefully itll be on the bikes and beards channel.
I had a 1969 Z50 that I put a 125 China motor in and wrote it back back-and-forth to work. Lotta looks a lot of laughs. Did that for a full year? Totally good mileage.
Im more into the YSR behind you then any Monkey ever. My older brothers best friend had a ysr50 and I got to ride that all over town in the 6th grade, 😆 love those, my dream is to own one someday.
I have a 1970 CT70 (Trail 70) its very similar to the Monkey with the fold down handlebars. My father pulled it out of a dumpster at his auto shop and brought it home. We changed some hoses, cleaned the carb, changed the plug and put gas in it. It fired right uo. It was 20+ yrs old when i got it and that was 30 yrs ago. All ive ever had to do was change oil and plugs and brake pads. The drum brakes suck but man that little thing is fast. Its poop brown and goes slightly over 40mph. 3 speed trans and faster than any souped up Tomos moped i ever had. The thing is ABSOLUTELY BULLETPROOF. Yes its a blast for my niece and nephiews, and me when we're all together!
My brother picked up a CT70 years ago. I remember the head bolts being too loose so we were taking it up and down the street and when youcd put load on the engine the head would lift and extremely loud pops of fire would blast out of the side of the cylinder head! We ripped it up and down the street at dusk and laughed our asses off! 😂 Tightened the bolts down and it was fine for years, I don't even remember changing the headgasket.
@volvo09 That's funny as hell. I have so many memories on mine. Once I went up a really steep hill in the woods, I tried to pick up enough speed and downshift at the top but I didn't make it. The bike never bogged out or anything like a 2stroke I just fell backwards and slid down about 40ft and broke my leg on a tree stump. The bike was packed with mud but it was still running it never even stalled. You could shift that thing into 3rd gear and it would take off like an automatic never have to shift. I gotta find tires for it. I was looking about 10yrs ago and gave up. The drum brakes are shot. But other then that I'm sure it will still fire right up.
I wonder why they dropped the 'Mini-Trail' name that was used back in the 1970's when the Z50 first became popular? My next door neighbor had one before I got a '66 S50 'step-through' that was my first real motorcycle.😄👍
There's a chance that a strong EMP would fry these for sure. The wiring may suffer such fierce induction that it ignites the insulation. Way more easily repairable than modern though for sure, may need new insulation on wires here and there to avoid shorts. Have I missed anything fellas? I probably have I'm no expert
Hey Sean, here in Belgium we had in thé 90,s thé Honda Dax ,i think they Came before thé Honda monkey,we also rock thé Honda Camino here in Belgium, they where Rockets here like 130 km/u for a small bike😁 Grtz Frank
Hey man im between a suzuki boulevard C50 and a kawasaki Vulcan 900 classic they are both in similar condition but I would like to know which one you would recommend more.
My brother and another friend bought the new one a few years ago. My brother can run 67mph. Paced to my highly modified hd with certified speedometer. They are fun but down here in tx. They are below bumpers on on all trucks meaning they can't see you. I played with them maybe in a neighborhood but screw traffic.
oh times has flown by and in a few hrs well it will be a new year after watching this episode i realized i see grey beard holly time has flown by happy new year
Our first bike was a z50 metallic red in 1970 I was 5 and remember to this day my 4 year old younger brother crashing it into the fence on Christmas Day and wrecking the front of it It had all the lights and blinkers
Honda Dax or CT70 in the US was common. CT90 was more common than the Super Cub / Passport. Honda marketing messed up and sent C70 instead of C90, and both are motorcycles that need licensing. 50cc, less restrictions, 70cc is more trouble than worth. I rebuilt my 1964 Super Cub with a 125cc engine.
My first bike was a 70s exactly like your monkey but orange. It has the take down bars weird bulky seat headlight brake light same exhaust/ exhaust guard. I recently gave it to my cousins husband to bomb around on their farm. I'm curious what it was i always thought it was a z50 but a trail edition.
i looked em up here in denmark, and it seems that we only have the new 125cc 4 stroke 6500usd new. I would love to se how they compares, to the old 2 stroke. Merry christmas.
In Japan, it is illegal for 50cc bikes to drive over 30km/h and they need to stay in the far left lane at all times. The monkey was famous because they have a plethora of aftermarket parts which was a cheap way to have fun. They have exhausts for it also. A tuned up monkey will reach 50mph. Almost nobody keeps it in it's original form. So it is rare to find something that is all original.
PLEASE have molds of the faring and saddlebags on the bagger monkey made. there are a ton of us that want those and we can't get them. PLEASE , PLEASE do this for us.
Still have my Honda CT trail 90 , bought new in 70. Tool kit , touch up paint owners manual, sale receipt! $280. New out the door ! Little over 3800 miles only thing changed and not original is the back tire! A true go anywhere you want to go and use only a couple drops of gas getting there! Un stoppable machine! As long as as you’re not in a big hurry to get there! Yes , Fear the Honda CT Trail 90 !!!
I'm very comfortable watching YOU riding the monkey Store in a dog bed? My greyhounds store pretty small when they curl up. Nice vid. Nice bike. Cops same world over.
For the people that don’t know Sean was riding a moped for b role and ended up low siding it in a parking lot and that’s where all the road rash is from.

Dude shouldn't be allowed on a motorcycle.
Vanna, can I buy a comma?😅

Ouch😮
Why there no video of the wipe out
Firs rule of bikes :falling off hurts no matter the size of what you're riding, so put some protective gear on!!
I put 1500miles on my '23 Monkey this summer. I love it. Top speed on flat road is 57mph, downhill with wind at your back, up to 65 if you are tucked.
These are super cool little bikes, your right everyone should have one, I had one in the late 70's not a monkey, the trail 70, wish I still had it ..

Nothing on earth is engineered like a Honda.
Here in Brazil the honda only factory bomb that breaks, even being the best seller, the poor love this brand
Wrong, Chinese bikes are engineered exactly like Hondas 😅
@FoundingStockNZ Honda did the engineering and China stole the design. Their bikes are not engineered. They are copied

Me and my neighbor had a similar Honda growing up countless memories.
That's a beauty, but how's the chopper build going?
Tightened the bolts down and it was fine for years, I don't even remember changing the headgasket.
Whos Italijet Dragster is that in the rear?? Do we get a video on that beast of a scoot?
I wonder why they dropped the 'Mini-Trail' name that was used back in the 1970's when the Z50 first became popular? My next door neighbor had one before I got a '66 S50 'step-through' that was my first real motorcycle.😄👍
Honda sure love naming their bike with Gold & Silver.
Yo vi una en Portugal. Estaba en una colección privada junto a muchas otras motos geniales. Suerte que ahora todos llevamos una cámara en el bolsillo.
Back in the 90's I bought a Z-50 for the kids for $300. We had a blast and years later I sold it for a bit more than I paid.
Rupp roadster 2 minibikes come with a title so you could legally drive on the street
The Indian Papoose is actually a Welbike, badged as an Indian. Welbikes were designed and made by Excelsior Motorcycles, in Birmingham, England.
this is true
Just bought and sold a special edition chrome Honda Gorrila. Cool little bike.
My first bike was a Garelli moped too! So much cooler than a Puch! lol
I rode one when I was 13 at my buddies grandpa's house. We had a blast.
What happened when you laid that other little bike down? We saw the accident on the security camera but you never said what went wrong?
Hey Sean, here in Belgium we had in thé 90,s thé Honda Dax ,i think they Came before thé Honda monkey,we also rock thé Honda Camino here in Belgium, they where Rockets here like 130 km/u for a small bike😁
Grtz Frank
Do you find that it rains there often?
Hey man im between a suzuki boulevard C50 and a kawasaki Vulcan 900 classic they are both in similar condition but I would like to know which one you would recommend more.
My brother and another friend bought the new one a few years ago. My brother can run 67mph. Paced to my highly modified hd with certified speedometer. They are fun but down here in tx. They are below bumpers on on all trucks meaning they can't see you. I played with them maybe in a neighborhood but screw traffic.
oh times has flown by
and in a few hrs well it will be a new year
after watching this episode i realized
i see grey beard
holly time has flown by
happy new year
The honda monkey thats was really a classic in the old days
Our first bike was a z50 metallic red in 1970 I was 5 and remember to this day my 4 year old younger brother crashing it into the fence on Christmas Day and wrecking the front of it
It had all the lights and blinkers
do you have an idea on when your gonna start selling bikes again
Remember the QA50?
Heh heh, I do! Even smaller than the Z50 with a 49 cc. pushrod motor and a 2 speed transmission. Sort of designed for the 6 and under group.😉
I been hunting for a little Honda 50. From what I can tell is any left sitting anywhere must be back east somewhere.
Atleast in Finland, before 1987 all had 3 speed semiautomatic engine, 1987 and never got 4 speed manual clutch.
I have a Garelli VIP 2 speed (and a 4 speed manual motor) Easily goes 40. My Puch Maxi 1 speed does 50.
i looked em up here in denmark, and it seems that we only have the new 125cc 4 stroke 6500usd new. I would love to se how they compares, to the old 2 stroke. Merry christmas.
That road rash is getting better 😅. Better it itches like crazy. Never bin on a Grom of Monkey. Looks really small.
Hey Shawn is behind you❕ 2:32
Still have my Honda CT trail 90 , bought new in 70.
I wish you would tell us how we can buy some of these bikes, id love to bid on that bike.
Still sporting the road rash.
Nice, keep the Triple Antibiotic on it
Don’t you have to have mirrors on your bike?
We need another roadliner video lol
