Hi, this is future Roonzie! Jordan Peterson is so irrelevant now that I'm embarrassed too even mention him here, but let's separate the message from speaker.. Forgive me. Also, since I couldn't cover the whole story in this video & I missed out some points, I made another video about Hachi & her addiction to external validation ✨ Feel free to check it out on my Channel if you would like to learn more!

What i love about hachi. Is that she accepts her problems, faces them and moves on and does not look back. If she does look back, she does it to learn and do better next time. Nana O on the other hand often runs away from her problems, and when they catch up to her, she breaks down. Hachi is the stronger one...

That's why the men in her life, Ren, Yasu, Nobu and Shin gets frustrated with Nana O. Like Nobu once told her that she only thought about herself.

@@rziefebruary i know people find hachi annoying, but I believe she's annoying because she's brave enough to be. Often it's the annoying ones who learn quicker about themselves and improve themselves as people, because their flaws get pointed out to them much sooner. The "cool" ones like nana find out about their flaws much slower because they're afraid to face them let alone reveal them.

@@joycezale5433 that’s such a good good good good point, personally I always found her frustrating because I always thought she deserved better than what she was willing to accept. It was sad that she rarely let herself get that chance to be herself, be independent, do what she wants freely before she falls into the arms of a man again and is swept up in her emotions. While I loved that she had them and portrayed them realistically - I just felt she often relied too much on others as the source of her happiness, her parents, nana and their friends, Jun and Kyo, and eventually takumi. She gets what she wants in the end, just wish she could’ve grown into it instead of being thrown into it.

As someone who has experienced what nana did, she doesn’t have a family to nurture her and she developed a tough shell to survive her tough childhood years. That’s why she wasn’t rly best at expressing her feelings. And also she is afraid of being abandoned, that’s why she doesn’t want to confront bc she’s afraid ppl would leave her.

I first read nana when i was 12, obviously at an age before i had any relationships or self wareness... all the characters seemed so old and complex to me back then. Now that I am 24, the characters were actually so young.... like, the nanas moved to Tokyo at the ages of 20/21 if i remember correctly. This age is so young! still a young adult. For Nana K, being made a mother at such an age breaks my heart, especially in the circumstance she did with nobu and takumi. She really built herself up into a strong individual. And Nana O, I'm not surprised now with how her story unfolded into this mental breakdown and disappearance, due to her being abandoned at such a young age by mother and boyfriend..and her led to the development of her dependency issues. I relate to both women in this story deeply.

Thank you for your amazing insight!!🥰 I can totally relate with this as well. And yeah, they are really young in this manga, early 20s I bliv. Takumi needs a whole breakdown of his own, he's the definition of you'll hurt others if you don't heal yourself 🙃

Ah man this was so good. Comparing myself reading Nana as a teen vs now that's I'm 30 I really relate to the initial rejection of Nana K. I love this series so much and how realistic each character is with all the good character traits and their flaws!! It's just so authentic and so many people can see parts of every character in themselves, just like a kaleidoscope. Being honest with yourself and with the people around you is key, just like communication. You can't only "sense" people's thoughts and emotions, neither can they so it's important to speak out your emotions or ask what's wrong.
I always tell myself and my bf, that emotions are there for a reason, they have a function and we shouldn't ignore them. I tried to suppress many emotions in my teenage years when I was addicted to pain and negativity and it truly killed my mental health so I had to go see a therapist (which I did 10 years later). Now as a 28 years old woman, I want to embrace myself with all my emotions.
Thank you so much for this video. ✨

I first read the manga, when I was 20 years old in 2008)...shortly after Yazawa put it on hiatus. 14 years...and year by year, I re-read all the 84 chapters. In love with the story, this is my absolute fav from her (read all her mangas from Tenshi nanka ja nai, to Gokinjo monogatari, to Parakiss). Now I'm 35 years old, but truly admire this masterpiece and all the characters.

I was a lot like Nana Osaki. In a sense that I hid a lot of emotions within, and I was extremely prideful. It wasn't until I watched the show again after years and rereading the mangathat I realized how screwed up I actually was. I idolized Nana O. and it was toxic. I changed a grew over the years and have accepted myself with a stronger confidence in my emotions, and I even began to drop my pride I a lot of ways. I'm still healing, but I definitely am not in the same toxic place anymore.
But I believe praising Hachi from jumping from one toxic relationship (her and Nana) to another (Takumi) feels counterproductive. While Takumi isn't a complete jerk, he is definitely not a hood thing for Hachi, whether she got what she wanted from life or not. While I don't believe you're praising her for being in another toxic relationship, that's what it ends up feeling like. I may have missed the mark here, very possible I am an idiot, but both Nanas are extremely flawed people with their own toxic traits.
What one person wants can very from what a person needs. Nana O. May have wanted to live her own life and make her own way, but she needed to drop her pride and stop treating people like objects because she was so scared of being lonely. Nana k. May have wanted to be a housewife with a family, but what she needed was to love herself and not allow herself to be controlled by others and their acceptance, man or woman. Both can lead to toxic situations where you're either abuser or the victim or even both.
I'm glad you stood up for Hachi regardless, even if I disagree with some of your points. I'm really glad there's still discussion about this show/manga that has impacted mine and so many others. The different perspectives really provoke so much thought.

I totally agree with you! I think the mangaka intentionally portrayed these two characters in two opposite and extreme ways, to tell the audience a certain message, that you gotta strike a balance between loving the others and loving yourself. In the case of Nana O, she definitely loves herself more than anyone else, which is why she puts her own goals and dreams above everything else, and also why she often treats her friends as possessions. Nana K on the other hand doesn't love herself enough. She sees her own worth from how the others treat her. She gets upset when she sees Nana and her fan (forgot her name) hang out because she thinks she's not as important anymore. Also, she is not able to control her own life and what she really wants. She lets her emotions run wild and stops thinking logically. That in turn resulted in her getting unexpectedly pregnant, and then she finds herself having no choice but to marry Takumi even though he's not that good of a man. I feel that we should all try to strike a balance between these two extremes, in order to be an independent, emotionally strong human being.

Yasu is definitely the most mature character in the series! However, I feel that he deals with his own childhood traumas in a different way. Unlike Ren and Nana O who try to be as independent as possible in order to avoid being abandoned, Yasu tries to be the caretaker of everyone to make himself feel that he's needed in the world. Like he helps others in order to gain his own self worth. Yasu comes from the exact same background as Ren, but he's evolved to be someone so different.

Woww, i just found your video looking up ai yazawa. I resonate with this entire video. I just watched nana and i can say it's one my favorite animes. They did such a good job writing the characters. You get to understand all sides of them, including characters like takumi. On the of topic yoongi. This video reminds me of his song shadow. My favorite part at the end when he says, "I’m you and you’re me, do you get that now? We’re one and will sometimes clash. But you can never break off from me, you got that? Can’t break off no matter what you try. It’ll probably feel better if you just admit it. Succeed or fail, wherever you go, I'm you and you are me." For yoongi it probably means something different but for me it's like you can run away from the side of yourself you don't like but this is you and "We're you and we're me." Deeeep lol.

As a super independent person who doesn’t rely on a guy to get through life, hachi seriously ticks me off in the biggest way possible. So i really can’t bring myself to like her at all. • @kodzuken1016
      @kodzuken1016 4 місяці тому

TBH if I saw someone like Hachi in real life, I'd have run away from her as far as possible. I really can't stand her cuz she's so needy and whiney and everything omg. And the fact that she can fall in love so easily just makes me frown. She seems to be okay with every guy. Like she doesn't know what she really wants! I resonate more with Nana O, but I'm definitely not as possessive and controlling as her. I think that's why I can't see Hachi as an obedient puppy and find her appealing as a friend. Nana O definitely has her own problems, but she is logical and strong-willed. Like she knows what to do and what not to do (Unlike Nana K who let this unknown married old man take advantage of her when she was in high school. Like what the heck?!) Even though Nana O is definitely fragile, she is trying to deal with her own insecurities, and I'm sure she just needs time to reflect and heal. The mangaka Ai Yazawa once said in an interview that the real unfortunate one is Nana O. She is the one who has a really hard upbringing and has gone through lots of hardships due to the faults of others (such as her mom and grandma), but Nana K is the one that causes her own misfortunes. She comes from a good family and she could have had a happier life if she didn't make those stupid decisions.

Its definitely true that guys suicide rate is higher and guys are taught to "tough it up" simply speaking... but I feel the reason for this is because the world we live in punishes men for showing emotions.... I think as a society we are getting better/ softer which in the future will be better for men's mental health if we actually make it a real concern in the future. But I believe unless society as a whole treat men differently then it is for the best men have to "tough it up" it's like pick your poison... even right now if ment confront their emotions and open up to people... one most ment dont know how to be receptive to that and women [from experience] will just use this information against you whenever they get mad at you or want to one up you...also men are seen as worthless if they do not meet certain standards so even if you are emotionally sound if you dont meet society's standards no one cares because u are not useful to most... even when you younger and trying to navigate relationships with women you notice the types of guys they go for so you learn to change and adapt or you wont have much luck with women because u might not been seen as good man to them... I also think due to how men had to survive in the past we have certain traits that make us want to "step on" for lack of a better word weaker men when we are younger in order to not be over looked or outcasted by others.... there are lots more other reasons as to why I feel parents implement these ideals in boys subconsciously due to what they experience in the world.... but point being the root of the problem isn't teaching "toxic masculinity" traits to boys it's just toxic in general but still it is seemingly a way of thinking that will give you offspring the best chance at a good life... the problem isn't just what we teach but how the world treats men and that's why they are taught things like that... it's similar to my family teaching me things about the world and how I have to be just because I am black... they might seem toxic but since the world is this way you have yo have these defenses in regardless... I think as a society we are becoming better but until then I believe the teachings of most people wont change too much until the world does a bit... which I think is happening very slowly though generation by generation.... but I love nana though lol

More specifically, as Nobu comes to terms with the fact that Nana (brown haired one) is pregnant and engaged and is ready start her own family, she tries to coerce Nobu to get back with her???? Yeah no one is perfect and that’s why this manga is good. Also (not that it’s justified ofc) she probably tried to make Nobu get back with Hachi because SHE didn’t want to lose her, but didn’t think she could do anything herself about it, not really knowing her emotions regarding that situation yet etc because to me it read that she was actually (at least a bit) in love with Hachi. This is why she was so jealous and in a way even possessive, why their ‘fight’ was so big when Hachi announced her marriage and so on… ah anyway I’m rambling

It's so funny to see this breakdown of nana osaki when you're younger watching, you feel like her. You relate and understand to her. But you grow up and realize nana was just a ball of hurt struggling to express it. And hachi kinda knew what she wanted all along. We hate the tradition and deep femininity of hachi. Nana is a rebel but she wants the same exact thing as hachi. She doesn't feel fortunate or safe enough to go for what she wants or put it out there.
