    In this long overdue episode, filmed back in May and June of 2020, Aviana Aircraft sets out on a very special project: a 1966 Cessna 206.
    This Cessna 206 had most of the original paint from when it left the Wichita factory in the 1960's. The paint was very dull and also super thin so paint correction was done very carefully. A ceramic coating was applied to protect the little remaining paint and remove the need to polish again.
    Then, we moved onto Aluminum polishing to bring the unpainted bare aluminum to a high shine.
    A very long and messy project, but very satisfying! enjoy!

    My first job was polishing an all aluminum Luscombe from tip to tail back in the 80s. Took 3 days and was very messy. I can imagine that was one of your most time consuming jobs. My back hurt just watching you polish the underside of the wings!

    I believe that 206 is a 66 model that used to live in Jackson, Wyoming. I have probably 25 or 30 hours in it, when it was much younger and so was I. That basic paint scheme was standard on the utility 206 then; saved 24 pounds over full paint, and was popular on the working 206s😀Try polishing the stripes with corn starch, works quite well--

    G, day from Sydney, Australia.
    * that is a beautiful plane
    * that polishing method is extreme
    * thank you for teaching the polishing process
    * the ceramic coat is a wonderful product (a little bit expensive).
    *the propeller hub looks new, any details on the engine, engine sensors (EGT, CHT, TIT)
    * has the inside aluminium surface been coated with that (green preservative) coating? It stops that white oxidant powder?
    Take care🇭🇲🔆🎦

    What was the actual amount of hours it took to polish the 206? It's a pretty good size. Typically what or how do you charge a project. Enjoyed the video. I learned a lot! Appreciate the way you described the polish you chose and how much it removes.

    Your Tyvek suit is legit! You did a great job, as always, how much maintenance is there to keep the aluminum up? Is it possible to coat the aluminum as well to help with the upkeep? It’s my understanding that bare aluminum airplanes take constant maintenance to keep looking good. How’s the instrument rating coming? Take care, stay well.

    Great video, I have a couple questions. I have a 1960 Piper Comanche all bare aluminum. For the 1st time I used Nu-Shine F7 or F6 (if needed) with a wool pad on a rotary polisher. Then C with a wool pad and rotary again, followed by S on a Cyclo polisher wrapped in a soft cotton rag.
    Subsequent polishing can usually be done with just C and S, both applied with the Cyclo and soft cotton rags. The Cyclo wrapped in rags really minimizes the "throwing" of the polish.
    Question 1) I notice you don't use a Cyclo polisher at all. Is there a reason you don't like them?
    I find the mess on the airplane after polishing is nothing compared to the mess on the floor.
    I have found the polish residue on the floor tracks everywhere, especially into the plane?
    I have had to mop, or mop/squeegee, or actually scrub with a brush and wipe up with towels to get it all off the floor.
    Question 2) What is your process and products for cleaning up the floor?
    I also like that you apply polish on the discs directly most of the time, it would help minimize the "throwing" when the pad comes in contact.
    As an aside, I have also found that Nu-Shine works very well on the airplane windows, when used with the Cyclo and soft cloth. Also works on automobiles with plastic headlights.

    • @Dudarin0
      @Dudarin0 2 роки тому

      Hi Paul, got an answer to question 2: by far the easiest way to deal with floor cleanup is to tarp it before you start. If you need to remove polish residue, a detergent that uses sodium carbonate and a surfactant will dissolve the black aluminum oxide. It'll clean up floors, rags, clothing, whatever. A common brand is Spic and Span. Add some Dawn dishwashing liquid or similar, and the black stuff goes away quickly: doesn't even leave a ring in the bucket: the oxide gets chemically bound up and no longer sticks to anything. Mineral spirits will dissolve the residue as well, but that's best used in very small amounts for cleaning up caked-on oxide on whatever you're polishing; for example around rivets or seams. Watch out though, mineral spirits will craze anything made of plexiglass, so don't get any on your windows or windshield unless you want an expensive "hard knocks" lesson.

    Great work! Did you put a protectant on the bare aluminum? If not why would someone not want the protection?

    • @smokingspitfire1197
      @smokingspitfire1197 3 роки тому

      Protectant would dull the shine and i think it wouldnt actually protect the look either

    • @AvianaAircraft
      @AvianaAircraft  3 роки тому

      @@smokingspitfire1197 is right. I have yet to come across a coating worth applying to Aluminum. S-grade nuvite leaves behind a tiny bit of protection. Stripping the aluminum to prep for coating would just marr it like crazy before you can get any coating on.

    • @AvianaAircraft
      @AvianaAircraft  3 роки тому
