Love this song about a Yorkshire Jen! I’m a big fan for the last 10 years from the Northeast USA. Kate Rusby is absolutely wonderful. Her music evokes peace, joy, longing, and a feeling of home simultaneously. 🤩 She’s magical.
Been listening to the sweetest voice on the planet for 20 years or so. Always worry when there's new stuff that she might somehow do something I don't love. Needn't bother; she never does!
Londoner myself, but never felt so proud to be English listening to this, remember Simon we are all from the same country, even the People's Republic of Yorkshire can accept that
I love Kate Rusby She is the reason why I love folk music so much I have loved her music for years Keep on going Kate Rusby your Yorkshire ,s brightest star I am your biggest fan and always will be ,
From Ashland, Oregon, USA, and English/Irish/Scottish, French descendant, I love your music so much it hurts my heart. Please come to my town and perform. You are loved here! You keep the world sane and healthy!
Coming from south Yorkshire I've hurd the name Kate Rusby a million times but for some bonkers reason never checked out her music... OMG I'm so glad finally I did... Kate's astonishingly beautiful voice and melodies are so emotionally strong... Takes me back to the traditional folk music of Dublin pubs of what i miss so much... Kate must have a strong Irish connection... :))) love love love Kate's music:)))
You wouldn’t think that ‘ordinary would be a good word to start a chorus? How wrong can you be!.......An ‘extraordinary’ song. Thanks Kate & band, I love it.
What a marvelous song! ❤ Congrats to Kate and the Group! I feel the aura of Huddersfield and Barnsley through this song! (reminds me of my university years there) Thumbs Up to all of you!
I've loved Kate's music since 'The Girl Who Couldn't Fly' and have seen her play live many times. As much as I love her more traditional material I'm glad that she is going for a more contemporary sound using a Moog and drums. It still sounds like Kate but just with a more modern edge - great stuff and I can't wait for the new album also x
Just in case you ever see this: Kate, I love that your style changes over time, and that it changes VERY well. I can always tell it's you, not just because of your voice, but because no matter how modern the instruments or sound is, it always has a character of Rusby-ness that never goes away. So many artists stick with the same stuff over and over, and alienate people whose personal tastes change or are already different. You, however, have also not "tried too hard" to conform to modern styles. You've kept your style, and modernized it. I love your music so much!
I took a trip to England and ended up in York and had a great time, enjoying the scene and drinking good gin. Googled “York Singers” and found Kate and was thrilled and now own her whole catalogue. One of my favorite artists of all time. This song hooked me, and it’s still my favorite.
makes me miss the auld farm and chasing the point to point with our two horses bumble & baggins. a 2 hour trip in the bedford and swear the sun was banished any day them horses stepped foot onto ground that wasnt ours lol
...very nice Katy . Eeee, an 'orse song - I only recently discovered that the tune to John Lennon's 'Happy Christmas - War Is Over' is 'borrowed' from the old folk song 'Stewball' ....which is also...an 'orse !
Fantastic track from a fantastic singer and songwriter! Of the video-I didn't know Colin Farrell played guitar! 8-) (Yes, I know that must be Rusby's guitarist husband Damien, but he looks a lot like Farrell in some shots here.)
Recently stumbled across you Mrs Rusby, can’t believe how I missed you. Your songs soften the heart of this hardened heart and bring me to tears with such such beautiful songs and arrangements..thank you
I'll sing you a song and a merry song Concerning Yorkshire Jen Who never yet run with horse or mare But run just now and then When she came to Newmarket town The sportsmen viewed her 'round And all the cry was "Alas, poor wench She'll never run this ground" Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any Hasn't got anyone When she came to the starting post The mare looked very smart And let them all say what they will She never lost her start When they came to the two mile post Poor Jen was cast behind How they laughed and how they jeered But Jen she did not mind 'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any Hasn't got anyone 'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any Hasn't got anyone When they came to the three mile post The mare looked very pale She laid her ears on her bonnie neck And past all of them did sail "Come follow me, come follow me You all will not forget None of you'll catch me again And I'll make you all to sweat" 'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any Hasn't got anyone 'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any Hasn't got anyone When she came to the winning post The whole crowd gave a cheer Showered with love from the jockey lad She jumped like any deer The jockey said, "This race you've won This race for me you've got You could gallop it all again When the rest could hardly trot" 'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any Hasn't got anyone 'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any Hasn't got anyone She was ordinary, hasn't got any Hasn't got anyone She hasn't got anyone lyricstranslate.com/en/kate-rusby-jenny-lyrics.html

This the most powerful performance (and singer) I've ever seen........
Wow! How does a person have so much warmth and beauty in this frustrating times we live in?my guess it is love that Emirates from her to all of us.

This might just be my new favourite Kate song, which is a bold statement to make considering how hard I fell for Ghost and Maid Of Llanwellyn.
Kate's voice never gets old - it's so unique and so beautiful.
Cannot wait to see Kate live in May, especially with songs from this album. It's another beauty from a real talent.

I love that you use cornets instead of trumpets. Lovely, Kate. Lovely Kate.
They are so hard to play compared to a trumpet at least for me. I appreciate the change as well!

I've loved Kate's music and voice for decades. This is quite a departure in style... I hope they do an acoustic version too.
This is just joyous! Another triumph for Kate! What a voice and what and this is just another beautiful song...Love it/her...
What a gift. 🎶🥰❤️🏴

I'll sing you a song and a merry song
Concerning Yorkshire Jen
Who never yet run with horse or mare
But run just now and then
When she came to Newmarket town
The sportsmen viewed her 'round
And all the cry was "Alas, poor wench
She'll never run this ground"
Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any
Hasn't got anyone
When she came to the starting post
The mare looked very smart
And let them all say what they will
She never lost her start
When they came to the two mile post
Poor Jen was cast behind
How they laughed and how they jeered
But Jen she did not mind
'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any
Hasn't got anyone
'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any
Hasn't got anyone
When they came to the three mile post
The mare looked very pale
She laid her ears on her bonnie neck
And past all of them did sail
"Come follow me, come follow me
You all will not forget
None of you'll catch me again
And I'll make you all to sweat"
'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any
Hasn't got anyone
'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any
Hasn't got anyone
When she came to the winning post
The whole crowd gave a cheer
Showered with love from the jockey lad
She jumped like any deer
The jockey said, "This race you've won
This race for me you've got
You could gallop it all again
When the rest could hardly trot"
'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any
Hasn't got anyone
'Cause she was ordinary, hasn't got any
Hasn't got anyone
She was ordinary, hasn't got any
Hasn't got anyone
She hasn't got anyone
