Back in the day, Juha Kankkunen - he was an extremely skilled FORD rally driver - had the Ford guys build him a BDA powered Model A Ford. There are several articles on it if anyone interested want to do a basic search - IMO, it's a really cool build and looks totally stock from the outside, and even the engine looks 'period'.
Yes, I remember that article in a Hot Rod magazine. Even had some kind of deal on the ignition to make it missfire at idle so it would sound like a stocker, plus aluminum wheels made to look like the factory wooden spoke wheels 👍😁! Freakin awesome!

The funny thing about people upset that the '56 has a 2JZ in is that there were thousands of '56 Chevy's that came with a Stovebolt in them originally.
My mom used to own a BMW E30 318i in a deep blue colour when I was younger. It always holds a speacial place in my heart and childhood. In my country, the E30 325i and up, are referred to as a 'gusheshe', which means fast/quick in tsotsi taal. Definitely the one you'd least suspect was the volvo and although it's been done many times the Toyota starlet with the Hayabusa turbo bike engine is always good for a laugh.. Went to a meet here in UK last year and saw a twin engined VW Golf/Rabbit... Audi RS6 Eng in front driving fr wheels and Audi RS8 in rear driving rear.. 800bhp before tuning!!!
Here in the uk, Lancashire, my mate has a reilent kitten with ford cosworth 300bhp engine and 4 wheel drive. There is a video of it on UA-cam some were on santa pod.
My coworker had a Vega with a 350 he had done h/c/i to. He said it had an open dif but would still be able to do 2 wheel burnouts all day cause its power to weight was so high. He said it was around 450 at the crank. Crazy thing is, when he drove like a granny, it got 30mpg. He knew that cause he did a desert run somewhere in the states. He said it was like 250 miles between gas stations and he made it on one tank with his modified corvette engine back in the 80’s. He also had a 67 VW bug with a flat 6 porsche engine. He also had a Pontiac Transport, a Geo Metro, a Suzuki Swift, a stock first gen supercharged MR2, a stock secong gen turbo MR2, and an 89 Hyundai Pony. He liked quirky cars.
Imagine one of them old generation volvo v70's with a dyno tuned supercharged LS9 engine that could put out about 700+ horsepower. Fun + Practicality = PERFECT!👌🏼
Most people don't know that you can literally bolt up a 350 in a Datsun like it wss made for it. My buddy's dad bought one for that specific purpose. 😂
One of the coolest sleeper builds i’ve ever seen in person is a rusted and dented up original r32 rabbit (not the jdm one you fanboys, the german one). The owner did a dual ka24 swap, each with a turbo. One in the trunk powering the rears and one under the hood powering the fronts. Somehow both linked to the same sequential and throttle. It would consistently run mid 8s at our local 1/4. I believe it made around 900hp on dyno and weighed low 2000s. Crazy car!
In Germany someone bought 2 Rabbits and cut them in half 3" off centre, one to the left and the other to the right. He took the two wider halves and welded them together. The rear wheel wells got tubed a bit and a Porche 930 drive line got dropped in. At a bit over 2000 lbs that car would be just plain silly! Many chuckles were had on the autobahn.
About 50 years ago , we built sleepers that looked like well used bottom end four doors . Even my 67' Chevelle looked pretty stock , but I ran two big turbo mufflers and four resonators that kept the balanced and blueprinted 327 from barking too loud . The farm truck sounds great , but the majority of the rest sound like crap . Not too sure what the malfunction is with fuel and or ignition system to pop and fart out the pipes . Oddly back when I was active , we prided ourselves on having engines that sounded great on run up and when off throttle , smooth .
Love this vid! We had an old Impala with a sleeper switch in our town when i was young. Used to love watching that guy win races against super muscle cars who thought they were fast! Watched him win a title now and then as well as some pretty hefty money. Thank you for bringing out some old memories!!!
Years ago in Bend Oregon, I saw a great sleeper at the back woods drag strip. 59 or so Chev wagon. Side windows painted black. Had an Olds Riviera 455 front clip. When he got up to 50 mph or so, he threw the magneto switches and the flat 6 Lycoming turbo aircraft engine in the back lit off.
Best sleeper I've ever come across was a Toyota Cressida with a 2JZ. It looked completely standard and just had a bit of a mild note to it... until the owner revved it up and shot like gun! Crazy car.
I think the best sleeper is the 1980's Thunderbird turbo coupe from the Netflix series Fastest Cars. It's a absolute beast with a 427ci in it. Has an amazing story behind the car too. A little bit of a tear jerker all of us car fanatics will feel and understand.
2012 Subaru Exiga (YA) would be the perfect sleeper, Exiga is a mix of the Japanese word for exciting and active, and with a lot of horses under its hood it would sure be exciting to see at a drag strip! Or a beautiful Subaru Tribeca B9 it looks a bit Stange but I personally think it is perfect and deserves a perfect engine and chance to race!

Over 40 years ago I was told of a sleeper. It was a late 1930s Dodge (bigger family type) with original 4 cylinder. They had fitted it with a 4 wheel drive transfer case with a shaft going to the biggest hemi of the time (I think mid to late 60s). Not sure how they had it set up but supposedly used the 4 cylinder to cruise and as a pony engine to start the hemi. The hemi was hidden in the back of the car, so no one even knew about it until they got in a race against it.

Silvia S13 1998 with default body paint and rims. The original colour is a seafoam green with silver 240sx tear drop wheels (which makes it look like an elderly person's car or a plain city car when having both those stock). Engine swap the original 2.4 L KA24E I4 engine with a BMW S85 V10 along with a twin turbo and potentially a NOS bottle, could also swap the exhaust for a M sport exhaust or a 355 Dyno because the noise that it makes at the end is incredible, it would sound less discreet but would make it just sound awesome. Hope you like the idea Exotic!!!
My idea of the ultimate sleeper is to take the original Mini, cut the whole back part out, and put one massive battery pack in there with two electric motors driving the back wheels. Just have a speaker imitate the original mini sound haha.
my ultimate sleeper is take a v6 charger/challenger and engine swap it with a scatty pack or anything w a 392 hemi. thing is, don't change the rims or anything on the v6, just engine swap it. or just put a tt v6 in it if you wanna make it interesting.
I wanna vote for the 56' cause I was born in 56'. My Cousin was 10 years older than me and he had one so I Loved the 55's thru 57's. Come to think of it my Grand Parents had a 6cyl. 56' to. So not really a sleeper to me. But I had an Old Volvo so that reslly was a sleeper to me, loved it! Thanks Guys I Love Them All!!!❤❤❤😊😊😊
shhh!🤫 Don't spoil my plans :D My original plan was to build carbureted one rotor for it but due to financial reasons and also due to having way too many other projects already It will most-likely never happen.
My sleeper will be powered by either a N/A V8 or twin-turbo V6, probably an AWD sedan like the Ford Taurus, or a Crown Vic if I want to drift or do burnouts, or even just a Toyota Avalon.
The Bel Air is the coolest one of them all. I've never heard of anyone putting a 2jz in that car. The bel air is one of my favorite old cars and the fact it has a 2jz is awesome 💪
"Back in the day" (late 70's - 80's), I owned a '69 Olds Vista Cruiser. Green, with a blue rear door, it looked rough. The tired 350 was replaced with a 375 HP 455 from a '68 Toronado. Headers, a proper intake with a Holley Spread Bore on top and fired by an HEI system, the old girl surprised more than a few. Later I bought a 1972 Toyota Celica and added a few "Goodies" like a 600 CFM Holley, a header and swaping the rear pot to 4:11's from a 5 speed car. Tons of fun in that little one as well. Finally, I want to comment on street racing. As much as I appreciate quick cars and sleepers, I know they DON'T belong on open public roads. I have seen 3 people die because of street racing. You have no control on an open public road. Regardless of the time, ANYONE could easily pull out in front of you or unseen debris on the road could cause a tire to blow. If you value your car and human life, keep racing OFF the streets - anyone insisting on street racing is a poor excuse for a human being!
If I built a sleeper, the truth is I would go for my first car, which was a hyundai accent gls '98 5 doors, I would put a K20 turbo, 4 wheel drive, sequential transmission, and good tires, then I would only leave it stock for outside and inside maybe an ogm+ interior look
No, you wouldn't. They might win. If I am in a 600 000 car and we are neck and neck to the first turn. I will take the L and save my car. Not passing those things.
@@andrewhite4431 they won't, where do you think years of aerodynamic designing, engine optimisation and billions of dollars in R and D go? a car brand hiring engineers and investing decades to make the best car vs a 80k tuned vtec, I think the former takes W, also the fastest passenger cars on nurburgring is are super/hypercars.
@kishlayverma6622 What the F are you going on about? READ what I wrote and take the time to COMPREHEND what I am saying. Please think before you post. SMH.
It depends what you define as a sleeper. At the track I’d use anything pre ww2 on a nova frame with a tt sbc or ls. Most of those pre-war cars weigh 3000 pounds stock so it doesn’t take much more than 450hp to make a 10 sec pass Highway I’d go for a something like a lowered 2nd gen awd Explorer with a turbo because it’ll everytime and if you get the gearing right that bitch will just keep pulling
Hands down the best sleeper car ever was a vw scirocco. Not sure if there are any videos left on the internet of this car ,but it was a dual engine vw scirocco mkII dubbed the durocco.
My money for the perfect sleeper would be the Volvo since it’s shaped like a brick …but man that farm truck is everything a fast vehicle should not be …Nam Jamaica
utlimate sleeper? The Toyota Sienna with a 2j swap, making it have awd, sequential transmission, stock interior, boosted. No bodykits, no interior reduction to keep that stock look. But hella cool tbh.

Sick idea man😳😳
My idea of the ultimate sleeper is to take the original Mini, cut the whole back part out, and put one massive battery pack in there with two electric motors driving the back wheels. Just have a speaker imitate the original mini sound haha.
ahhh..no thanks
here in South Africa we are still in love with old cars especially BMW 325i E30/VW GOLF citi, golf 1.4 and a 1.6
Imagine a sleeper build in the Chrysler PT Cruiser, like add a twin turbo v8 or something, that would be insane
There is one with a ls swapped in the rear of it
They barely had room in the front for that 2.4L
Definitely the Chevy truck takes the lead on the ultimate sleeper category!
my ultimate sleeper is take a v6 charger/challenger and engine swap it with a scatty pack or anything w a 392 hemi. thing is, don't change the rims or anything on the v6, just engine swap it. or just put a tt v6 in it if you wanna make it interesting.
Why just get a v8 and buy 6er rims and remove badges.... sounds a lot easier.
Thanks Guys I Love Them All!!!❤❤❤😊😊😊
A fiat 126p with a rotary engine would be the ultimate sleeper in my opinion
shhh!🤫 Don't spoil my plans :D
My original plan was to build carbureted one rotor for it but due to financial reasons and also due to having way too many other projects already It will most-likely never happen.
The outback is awesome!
My sleeper will be powered by either a N/A V8 or twin-turbo V6, probably an AWD sedan like the Ford Taurus, or a Crown Vic if I want to drift or do burnouts, or even just a Toyota Avalon.
Lincoln mkz 3.0 T awd. Its a sleeper. I own one. 400hp 400 lbs torque. And with just a 93 tune ir jumpes up to 450+hp and 0-60 4.5 sec.
The Bel Air is the coolest one of them all. I've never heard of anyone putting a 2jz in that car. The bel air is one of my favorite old cars and the fact it has a 2jz is awesome 💪
wood panel PT Cruiser. Just imagine getting gapped by one of those
"Back in the day" (late 70's - 80's), I owned a '69 Olds Vista Cruiser.
Best sleeper build would be a LS swapped model T
Still on wooden bicycle 🛞's
That Farm Truck was the ultimate sleeper 💪💪💪
If I built a sleeper, the truth is I would go for my first car, which was a hyundai accent gls '98 5 doors, I would put a K20 turbo, 4 wheel drive, sequential transmission, and good tires, then I would only leave it stock for outside and inside maybe an ogm+ interior look
This looks like fun ! - Very cool !
Id love to see how these sleeper builds do against supercars on a track
SMH.
That FarmTruck is something pretty special!
i want a sleeper that can actually turn
Barnyard truck dope 😎 its like eat dust baby daddy's here😂
It depends what you define as a sleeper.
At the track I’d use anything pre ww2 on a nova frame with a tt sbc or ls. Most of those pre-war cars weigh 3000 pounds stock so it doesn’t take much more than 450hp to make a 10 sec pass
Highway I’d go for a something like a lowered 2nd gen awd Explorer with a turbo because it’ll everytime and if you get the gearing right that bitch will just keep pulling
Hands down the best sleeper car ever was a vw scirocco.
Not sure if there are any videos left on the internet of this car ,but it was a dual engine vw scirocco mkII dubbed the durocco.
He left his ass on the farm with that launch 🤣
Love the farmer truck 😂
I like all the sleepers first almost this program thank you
My money for the perfect sleeper would be the Volvo since it’s shaped like a brick …but man that farm truck is everything a fast vehicle should not be …Nam Jamaica
You dont mess with the truck! I love farm truck
The samurai today is the best looks good sounds good and very fast love the style
utlimate sleeper? The Toyota Sienna with a 2j swap, making it have awd, sequential transmission, stock interior, boosted. No bodykits, no interior reduction to keep that stock look. But hella cool tbh.
The farm truck being a celebrity since years, can we still call it a sleeper?
those cars looks so fun, everyone underestimating them not knowing the power inside.
Love the videos 😂😂😂😂😂🤟👍
Nice video. Thank you
Farmtruck and Azn are cool dudes. Humble racers but always having fun.
