    Oh wow his soft touch with the harmonics so gentle and articulate!! His picking hand is fluid and rolling and graceful!!! Great stuff!! I feel like i wasted my time studying all the rock " god" guitarists of the 70s and eighties and should have been learning from the les pauls chet atkins roy clark jerry reads and lenny breus of this world!!!

    • @FYMASMD
      @FYMASMD 4 роки тому

      No time studying is wasted. From an entertainment point of view this type of playing puts people to sleep. Maybe great techniques involved yet for entertainment value its boring. People want to dance and jump around to music. That won't happen with solo jazz guitar playing. Hence jazz is dying. Mostly guitar geeks are into this.

    Lenny Breau is truly one of the greatest guitar players ever. Just listen to his harmonics at the 2 minute mark. He was so far ahead of the game at this point, and it was 1966!
    What a brilliant performance!
    RIP Lenny

      It all depends on what you mean by being so far ahead of the game. If you can imagine what you can play with smaller strings you are looking at right in front of you, as a violinist, you are just starting to see what a violin virtuoso can do.

    When Lenny performed Paul’s masterpiece it was still pretty new. Lenny’s interpretation goes deep into McCartney’s musicality, and his guitar conveys those beautiful musical accidents in as unique a voice as any singer could do.
    As proof of Paul’s ability to transcend generations . . . My Dad hated the Beatles, but one day as we were driving along, McCartney’s ‘Yesterday” came on the radio and to his everlasting credit, my Dad admitted he had been wrong.

Just a telecaster and a leslie speaker. His use of harmonics is stunning. My favorite piece on that album is "Danny Boy/Londonderry Aire" Like Lenny Breau, he just doesn't sound like many guitarists we are accustomed to hearing. Not famous but fabulous!

      whats this wish I could get tabs for this? Why do people have to learn everything exactly the same? When I was learning there was no internet. Anything complex I slowed the record down using my index finger turning it. If I had a video I would watch over and over. I figured everything out by ear. I got a lot of things right and some sounded right but were wrong position wise. When it came to some of the Eddie Van Halen techniques I would read interviews or guess which leads to innovation. The learn everything technique and note correct by tab has stopped a lot of creative innovation on the instrument. I am not putting you down at all. Why don't you TRY to learn by ear ? It will improve your sense of pitch. Does it matter about the hand positions so long as it sounds right?

    • @90sharn
      @90sharn 4 роки тому +1

      @@HrhFish just came back to listen to this wonderful piece of music, scrolled down and noticed I commented 5 years ago 😅
      Saw your comment, look I can play by ear, I am even confident that I am a better player and innovator than you, don't bs me with your psuedo innovation ahaha, like cmon man.
      At best you're some inspired guitarist with many influences but nothing amazing to show for it. Do you know how I know that? The need to express your superiority complex.
      The tabs can be important if you're at a level where the smallest of dynamics matter, it's not just a matter of sounding the same, it's more about maintaining the same density of sound that he had in his playing, into yours, which not only has to do with the same chords and notes but also finger tension onto the guitar, especially with this piece, as it's very delicate in regards to its feel, vibe, desnitiy and etc.
      Why would this be important? Because the way he touches the guitar, the sort of Harmonics, subtlety of the notes he plays, his tone is something I would like to know how to do, so I can expand upon it in my own playing.
      I am not here to half ass it, getting it to sound somewhat similar, pseudo innovation and etc isn't what I am interested in. For the reasons above.

    Couldn't agree more. They were good friends. I'm sure they discussed the workings of the universe on more than one occasion. Such a shame that people like Lenny or Ted have to be uncovered, and the dust blown off. They should be on the tip of everyone's tongue like Hendrix or Clapton. Then again, it makes me wonder how many other hidden musical geniuses are out there just waiting for me to discover their sonic poetry, and that makes me smile.

Even Chet Atkins - arguably one of the Top Five guitar players of all time - said that Lenny Breau was the greatest guitar player that ever walked the face of the earth. He was IMMENSELY influential especially in the 1960s. He just didn't do much stuff that made to the Top 40: he didn't care about fame, he just wanted to make amazing music! (which he did)

    The limitations of guitar, (compared to piano),that must be overcome, make it all the more fascinating in the hands of a Breau or a Green: The essential beauty of a harmony must be found; notes that are technically part of one fabric must be brought in & out according to which of them makes the music present its truest face at each particular moment. In that sense ,(with all due respect to the original), I actually prefer Lenny's interpretations of Bill Evans to Evans himself,
