I Can't Believe Nissan Doesn't Install THIS on a GT-R!

  • Why doesn't Nissan install this cheap part on the R35 GT-R? I am shocked at how bad the GT-R sounds after leaving the factory!
    This was obviously a very simple and cheap fix. But it is odd that Nissan/Brembo would not have this already installed to limit the annoying noises from the car. It's an over engineered car, how was this misses?
    The Nissan GT-R for some reason doesn't have a second brake pad pin retainer spring installed from the factory. And NO this is not because someone changed the pads previously and forgot to re install the spring. This is how the GT-R comes! Newer Nissan GT-R models do have both springs installed, but this is ridiculous!

    Good Job, Some early Toyota's had that exact same issue and the fix was the same, What impressed me is You actually have a torque wrench and did use it the right way too! want to reduce the brake noise and chatter more? put a small 35 to 45 degree angle on the trailing edge of the brake pads at the contact area.

    Those pad retainer bolts are the same on Racing kart brake Calipers, they are always left secure but not over tight so that they don’t move, they need a little play/movement otherwise they can snap under the force of braking, then your pads will fall out and no more brakes be careful.

    I've just put a down pmt on a built GT-R with BoostLogic 750x turbos. I have saved a bunch of your videos. This is a must do. My AP Racing brakes have both clips. No clue why these don't. • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  3 роки тому

      The screeching his from the brake pads. GTR's come with near race pads. And unless they are super hot. They make annoying noises. I think 2016 cars have the springs installed. Here are the current pads I'm running. ua-cam.com/video/LOXvu5Bgadg/v-deo.html

    Use a product called iron X regulate on your brake calipers and wheels. The stuff is a little pricey but invaluable for dissolving iron.
    Smells awful but turns all the iron bright purple to show you it's working. There is nothing like it. Spray the rest of your car paint and everything periodically to get rid of iron embedded in your paint.
    But you'll find it to be most useful around your wheels and brakes if specially if your pads are sintered iron.
    There are tons of videos about Iron-X on UA-cam. Watch a few.

  • @yabtar
    @yabtar 6 років тому +4

    Based off what I could see, your pads and most likely rotors need immediate replacement. Wear limit for pads is 4.5MM and front rotors 30.6MM. Also, the retainer clips come already installed on newer GT-Rs. My 2015 came with them already from factory.

    • @BrosFOURRSpeed
      @BrosFOURRSpeed  6 років тому

      GT-R Marine Yikes I don't want to hear that yet lol. Any good recommendations for replacement pads and rotors?

    • @yabtar
      @yabtar 6 років тому +2

      Bros FOURR Speed No problem. There are several setups out there available depending on your needs. If you are going to be doing only aggressive street driving with no tracking I would recommend the Racing Brake slotted rotors with XT910 pads. Very low dust, great stopping power, and very little noise if any. Also the rear rotors will have an aluminum hat not steel like OEM and will not rust (I’m sure you’ve noticed the OEMs rust). Racing Brake is the only brand that offers the lightweight aluminum hat for the rear rotors that also retains the emergency brake functionality plus saves weight.
      If you ever do track someday then just swap out the pads to something more aggressive like the Racing Brake XR70s. They are a dedicated track pad that can withstand high heat of track use. Also, if you think you will track then make sure to get the regular Racing Brake rotors that are thicker (34MM) and not the lightweight street rotors which are thinner (32MM). The thinner rotors are great if you only plan street driving and for weight savings.
      Also don’t forget to replace the brake lines as your stock lines have probably reached their recommended replacement interval of 5 service years. Racing Brake sells stainless steel brake lines with their kits or you can buy from another company like AMS.
      Another option for street to semi-track use is DBA (Disk Brake Australia) brand rotors with low dust, low noise Hawk HPS pads. Speed by Design (SBD) swears by this setup and offers an entire kit at a very reasonable price. This is the cheapest route but have heard the rotors can prematurely fail or warp during track use.
      For another semi-track and street setup there is also AP J-Hooks or Alcon C-hooks paired with Endless MX-72 pads. This setup will cost more than the other recommendations (especially AP since you have to purchase hats for fronts and can’t reuse the OEM hats; Alcon you can) but has been well reviewed by many owners. The MX-72 pads are also low dust, low noise but are hard on the rotors more than OEM pads.
      In the end it’s up to you for what your needs are. My opinion is stick with street setup for the street so you’re not dealing with dusting, squeal, and accelerated wear and then switch pads to track dedicated if you decide to track as it’s super easy to swap pads out on this car. The Racing Brake setup is great for this because the rotors are made stronger than OEM and will stand up to track use if you choose to do so.
      Same concept with tires. I would rather go with dedicated summer tires for the summer and dedicated winter tire setup for snow if I drove my GT-R in the winter (which I don’t). This is much better than going with an all season tire as it’s a jack of all trades but master of none and you will miss out on performance with all seasons.

      @BrosFOURRSpeed  6 років тому

      GT-R Marine wow thanks for the write up! I've seen the Racing Brake setup alot when I was searching, and it seems like a very cost effective route. I've never heard of that brand so I wasn't sure if I could trust it. 95% of the time it's just daily road driving, maybe 2 track days a year and a few mountain trips. That might be a good way to go for me. Thanks!

    Its a retainer clip and the squealing not squeaking is the low pad warning clip meaning your brake pads need to be changed.

    • @carlpearce1
      @carlpearce1 6 років тому

      He said in the video the brakes are no longer squealing...

    • @LongRangeDesertGroupX
      @LongRangeDesertGroupX 5 років тому

      Most new cars don't use the warning clip anymore but a plastic sensor that once the pads wear down the sensor makes contact and a warning light comes on.

    • @LongRangeDesertGroupX
      @LongRangeDesertGroupX 5 років тому

      Plus if you actually look at his pads when he takes the wheels off to install the clip you will see he has plenty of meat left on them. A lot of ceramic pads tend to make the squealing noise.

      How could you not notice the clips were on the bottom. This was not a mistake by Nissan it was whoever did the work on the brakes and forgot to put the upper clips in. If Nissan forgot the upper clips on all their GT-R's they would all be rattling off the assembly line and that would just not fly man. Or maybe someone poached the clips for their own car. Either way this is not a factory mistake.

    If you're watching this, please always remember to use car stands when raising your car. Do NOT rely on jacks only!

    Clearly the retainer is on the bottom and somebody forgot to install the one on the top. Strange they would forget both sides though.

    Less can say they work on their GTR
    Only YOU can say... your woman gives a helping hand while working on your GTR. 💪🏿👍🏿

    Please use a jack stand next time. It’s pretty dangerous just to use a jack and hold the vehicle because hydraulic can lose pressure and fail!
