    The second lady was using the pump on too strong of a setting. I used to do that and my nipples ended up really red and raw. And mastitis is when the milk duct gets clogged. I had it too and it’s super painful because you have to massage the spot and it hurts.

    • @cindyvaughn6211
      @cindyvaughn6211 4 роки тому +7

      Yeah I was like that's not mastitis she was probably not using the right size flange, not using lubricant, and had the pump on too strong or was pumping too long etc

    • @jensiealvarado6276
      @jensiealvarado6276 4 роки тому +4

      I thought the same. It sounded like user error to me. Either wrong size, or setting or even both. The mastitis pain is real. I actually had to have my hubby massage my breasts for me because the pain was just too much. I'm so thankful he was so supportive of my breastfeeding journey especially in the beginning. Now going 20 months strong and I'm finally getting ready to wean her off, which is easier said than done.

    • @Xenia2812
      @Xenia2812 3 роки тому +2

      Yeah it didn't sound like mastitis to me. As mastitis is when your milk duct gets blocked and boobs engorged ect. I think its probably case of not having correct latch with baby, wrong flange size and too strong of a setting. And lack of use of nipple cream. Its actually kind of sad she wasnt informed on all this.
      As with my daughter due to nipple shape i got sore used some nipple cream and was instantly good and went on for 6months.

    The last story- YES ALWAYS TAKE YOUR PUMP!!! Hahah, I had a similar story where I was going to visit family for the weekend (with my daughter) and figured I wouldn’t need my pump since she’d be nursing from me the whole time, and I only pumped while she got a bottle. At this point she was waking up 1-2 times per night still to eat. For whatever reason, the night before the trip was the first time she slept through the night and I thought hm, should I take my pump? Nahhh she’ll probably wake up tomorrow night. Nope, she slept through the night from then on LOL. My boobs were rock hard and sore the whole weekend, and I’d find myself in the bathroom expressing milk just to get some relief from the pressure!! I pumped the SECOND I got home and literally made 3x the normal amount of milk!!! Moral of the story- ALWAYS TAKE YOUR PUMP!!!!

    Honestly these are pretty standard breastfeeding stories. Leaking colostrum a couple months before birth, cracked nipples more than likely as a result of the wrong flange size on a pump, I feel for Tameko though being misdiagnosed is awful and happens too often, and lastly..... I've been in that position, though not in my vehicle, more so in a public restroom having to express into a sink. But I have taken my pump in the car and pumped while driving home because my breasts were just so freaking engorged. I weaned my girl at a little over a year, she's now a little over a year and a half, and now I'm 5 months pregnant with girl #2 and intend to breastfeed again lol

      I also find all these stories quite common, except for the story of the third lady.
      Breastfeeding is really hard work and painful at the beginning, when the baby does not latch correctly.
      My baby had a loot of power from day one, but she couldn't always find the nipple, so I had hematoma all over my boobs at the beginning.
      She is 15 months now and we still enjoy it 👍

      It levels off because the baby leaves some milk in the breast, which signals the body to produce less milk next time since not all of it was consumed. Comparatively, continuing to pump or nurse after the breast is emptied signals the need for more milk, and that’s why you get a second or even third letdown reflex. A few days of that and the average output goes up as a result.

    If these women would have had access to an IBCLC, they may have had better breastfeeding journeys. (I know one said they saw a LC.) I feel bad for the woman who's mom was a nurse. That had to have been super painful. It could have been mastitis, but more likely a poor latch. And those wondering about the purple mouth, Gentian Violet is sometimes used for thrush (yeast infection in the mother's breast and baby's mouth). I haven't personally used it, but heard its super messy. But good for all of them for giving it a go, its not always easy.

      It does get easier, the first two weeks of having my daughter breastfeeding was terrible. I had an experience like the second mom, it hurt every time she latched and I wanted to give up so bad. Using lanolin cream and trying hard to fix my daughters latch and make sure it was correct helped so much! I had virtually no problems for 9 more months.

    Guys if your nipple chaps remember to use lanolin. If breastfeeding is painful consult a lactation consultant because you're not doing it right. Theres no shame in seeing someone but dont hurt yourself or give up on it so easily. Of course if you just dont want to thats fine but dont give up just because you havent learned the correct latch. Also if you feel pain when your milk is coming in this pain is normal. While the colostrum turns into real milk it can be very painful so thats up to you on if you want to push through

He ended up latching off then latching back on awkwardly as I slept to where the top of my nipple was rubbing against the roof of his mouth and I got blisters. I had to pump that side for about 6 weeks waiting for it to heal enough for him to nurse that side again, all the while breaking the blisters and bleeding a little every time I pumped.

    tyhe nipple pain is because of bad latching or the size and strenght of your pump can also cause scabs. sorry you had to have this experience... you did so great though !
    And mastitis is caused by not enough emptying of your breasts.. so because of the pain you empty less and then you get mastitis

    My first midwife appointment was at 20 wks (thanks to them being busy plus COVID) I had a midwife who was very judgy. Didn't like her at all. She flat out told me I was too fat to breast feed but she had to give me the info anyway. Luckily I'm a nurse and knew she was full of BS (by the way she was far more overweight than I was). But it still made me anxious. I've seen the research and real life advantages of breast milk (exclusive and mixed feeding). I'm about 3 weeks from delivery and my boobs keep leaking after a shower. About to start expressing and I don't think it'll be a problem. Shows her.

Also, I had a sore nipple for a hile when he was newborn, on the right side, and nearly gave up breastfeeding, but persevered, put kamillosan cream on my nipples, and they seemed to toughen up after a few months. Breast feeding then became enjoyable ===== I continued for 5 years. My son is super intelligent ------ he also never had vaccinations or antibiotics., and had homeopathic medicines if he got sick.
