I think one way to fight over consumption mentality is to focus on building different looks vs. showcasing new products. I think it would be interesting if content creators completely omitted product names and only encouraged application/techniques. "3 looks with 1 palette". Let the audience pick out the product that could work and is already in their collection
This reminds me so much of how the beauty community used to be like back in the day 🥹 I get nostalgic because that’s why I enjoyed watching UA-cam videos. I didn’t care about the actual products people used, I cared about the makeup look. It was always a lot of fun to try and recreate it with my own (veeery few) products. What a fun time 🥹🤎
ugh this felt so healing !! its so easy to get addicted to consumerism & buying stuff just for the sake of it. i find that makeup looks ive done felt more authentic to myself too when i wasn't trying to imitate the latest trends
@@Katelyn-q1u I agree. I noticed how I was buying more than I would really need and was reaching less for what I already owned. I’ve been also way happier doing my makeup how I like it and like you said - not following current trends. It feels somehow more refreshing 🥹
Hello Marta, your current approach to makeup is refreshing and your current style is what I enjoy (enhancing features makeup). You approached this topic with sensitivity, backed by your personal experiences. I agree that once you find what works, there is no need to look outwardly. I think eyeshadow quads are useful once you understand your eye shape and how makeup 'moves' throughout the day. I never could understand lip oils, I use a lip gloss that is minty, hydrating and non-sticky. The brand is Borica. Understanding the expiry dates on makeup has made me more conscious of purchasing makeup ( I purchase backups on my favourites, which prevents me from buying more). Thank you for creating this video as a reflection for us daily consumers on viewing makeup as a luxury and not a necessity.
@@germainelo3369 thank you so much for your kind words. Doing my makeup this way just feels right atm 🥹 I too try to keep expiry dates / shelf live in mind, especially now that I’m using more creams/liquids than in the past. Having too many of that kind means that half of it will probably expire by the time I can actually use it. I adore cream products but try to be realistic as to how much I will actually end up using!
thank you so much 💞

@martamaboo I agree!! I think all this focus on the new releases and brand names just makes the beauty space feel like an advertising landscape.
Check out Alexandra Anele, she does a lot of technique focused content.
