It always seems that Cedar plays just the right amount of notes and they're always lyrical. I've never heard Cedar overplay a solo. He's starting to become my favorite jazz pianist these days along with the great Red Garland, Geri Allen, and Benny Green.
Best version ever of this tune. Cedar is on top of his form here and Sam and Billy are very tight and very attuned to everything Cedar does. This is one of the best piano trio records.

I don't know if its the best - but its great. Love this tune. There are a number of recordings of Ugetsu by Cedar Walton, including the classic with Art Blakey. His piano artistry here is incredible. I'm a novice studying piano, but I'm hoping to tackle this step by step in the future - one chord at a time...
