  • Our GWM Cannon L 4x4 ( P-Series / Poer )
    Just a quick review on how this Beautiful Ute handles our 3 tonne caravan as we travel around Australia
    We are 4200kms into our trip and are proud to announce that the GWM is performing perfectly.
    DPF Burns - Not a problem
    Great Air Conditioning
    We have not had to upgrade the rear suspension or add air bags to the rear.
    No lift kit - We don't even need stabiliser bars. It sits great!
    Highly recommend The Great Wall Cannon!
    Just bang the caravan on the way and get going!
    I was very skeptical...... I once hated Great Wall, like most. I really hated the old ones. I saw a black GWM pulled up next to me at Anaconda and I was gob smacked on how good it looked. I loved the size of it too. We were just about to buy a second hand 3 year old Mitsubishi Triton for THE SAME PRICE! I am so happy we didn't. I watched about 200 hours of UA-cam reviews and had to test drive one. Next thing you know we owned one!
    www.wheelsbytheocean.com
    We purchased our GWM from Bartons in Capalaba QLD. We highly recommend them.
    Please like and subscribe to follow us as we use this ute to tow our caravan around Australia for the next 18 months!
    WE LOVE IT! GET ONE! 😂😂

    To tell you the truth...I agree 100% with everything that was said. Just I would not tow 3000kgs BUT say 2500kg is perfect
    just for safety.

    Hi, I have a cannon L. To help level the front of my van (reduce it dipping down toward the towball) I turned the towball tongue upside down. Just disconnect ball from the tongue, flip tongue, then reattach ball. This will give you about an extra 5cm in height and helps improve the level of van. Let me know if you need a picture. Hope this helps 😁

    Thanks for another insight. 2 year on no single issue with my L. People who don't have much knowledge or often other brand fan boys (or employees, coz it's a scary thing when you offer a product that cost almost half of yours) bad mouth it for no reason. The sad thing is, just 6-7 years ago most utes were around $40-50K. Other thing is, it's not about horsepower. My 25 Hp, 50 year old tractor will pull a 2.5 ton trailer loaded with hay any day. Will it do 200 km/h? Nope. It will barely do 20. But that is what matters. How the transmission is geared down to utilize what power you have. Within the legal speed limits for towing, 100-110 km/h this car will match most utes. Will it do 200 km/h an our and sub 10 s to 100? Probably not, but certainly not once, so far, did I ever felt that it needed more power to do what I threw at it or to keep up with everyday traffic.

    Set Lane Centering to on and you won't have any issue with lane keeping anymore - brilliant
    The DPF burns every 500kms, it won't tell you, unless you interrupt it more than 3 times, it will idle at 1100rpm - your car is different, my X does not show anything on the dash during a burn, at all, ever. But it still burns, so remember that not all models are identical in behavior.
    The a/c issue is not the temperature it is the fan speed in auto mode, plenty of cold air just many people don't understand how auto climate should work, and the Cannon auto is too slow on fan speed - manual override and you will catch pneumonia

I may need to spend a couple of grand on a pipe and tune , at the moment it’s scary gutless. The new van a new age manta ray mr19e is holding up great at this stage with no issues at all 👍🍺. Is the tow pro connected to ignition? Looks like it’s in learning mode but could be wrong. If it’s connected to ignition, it’ll reset everytime and not remember the appropriate braking force for auto mode.

    • @wheelsbytheocean
      @wheelsbytheocean  Рік тому +2

      Not bad at all to be honest!! If you jump into manual mode as you see the hill coming and drop it back a gear it'll power up it pretty easily. Will slow down a bit naturally. But I have not felt any struggle that has annoyed me.
      One massive steep hill we did slow to 60 in 4th gear but that was really steep. Not often.
      We are super happy with it. :)

    So with the redarc tow pro it's normally in proprtional mode that it learns the car and your braking using gyroscope inside it and applies the amount of braking force it thinks it needs. I found it horrible so you have to change it. User mode and in user mode you turn the knob up how much you need it to brake. I find it on 3 is perfect and the way I adjust it is il brake with caravan and release the brake and keep turning it one click at a time until I feel like the car isn't doing all the braking and if I have gone to far you will feel the caravan pulling the car as you brake because it's braking harder then the car so dial it back a bit until car and caravan braking same. To change it it's on page 12 of the redarc manual under section called changing modes

    I would like to know is the size of the truck the same as the Ford ranger. Hard to tell in the video . I was wondering what 3 tonne is but I figured it out Norm so your towing almost a 6000 lb trailer is, what is maximum towing for your truck. I have a 1500 GMC truck that would almost max out my towing plus everything you carry interesting 🤔

    • @wheelsbytheocean
      @wheelsbytheocean  Рік тому +1

      Hey :) yeah the GWM is basically the same size as the ford ranger. I think it was a tiny bit bigger than the 2022 modem but then the newest ranger is a bit bigger.
      The GCM is 5555kg. All our calculations put us extremely close to max weights but it just works. Just.

      Hey! I think It would be a good idea but we haven't needed it in our travels.
      The transmission did get quite hot on very hot days on super long drives when I had my foot planted to the floor the whole time. But wasn't often. If I backed off when I seen the temp rise it would go straight back down.
      Sooo yeah maybe try a trans cooler 😀

    You need to put your rig over a weighbridge, if your caravan is 3T your running illegally.
    Kerb Weight = 2175kg + 3000kg Caravan = 5175kg.
    GCM = 5555kg, approx. 300kg towball weight. That leaves you less than 100kg for you, wife, kids and whatever in the tub.

    • @jakewarren9465
      @jakewarren9465 Рік тому +2

      5175 is the GCM with the van attached (Van+Ute) the 300 kg towball mass does not add to the GCM as it is subtracted from the vans weight when it is attached to the car.
      The Cannon has 380kgs of remaining pay load when at max tow limit, even with 300kgs on the towball.
      Unlike all of the other utes they have left enough practical payload to use its full capacity.

    • @harleyboo6951
      @harleyboo6951 Рік тому +1

      @@jakewarren9465 My bad, forgot to deduct the 300kg from Caravan weight. Don't know why GWM couldn't have made the GCM higher than 5555kg, it's quite low for a dual cab ute??

    • @jakewarren9465
      @jakewarren9465 Рік тому +1

      @@harleyboo6951 The brakes and the cooling package is at the limit at 5555kgs, mine doesn’t get hot but it does start to wind the power back on long hills at full weight, the intake temps get into the 70s when it starts to derate the power.
      I have 35 inch tyres on mine and the big tyres have exposed the underwhelming brakes. It just means on the stock tyres the brakes will also fade, it will just take longer.

      15.5L - 18L per 100km is my average on the dash. If it's really hilly it will rise to around the 19-20 mark. Highway is generally 15.5L per 100km. This is with the caravan on. I haven't done enough driving without the caravan on but it would be around the 10ish I'd say.
