    I'm sure they're great squares, but there is nothing a square can do that warrants the price of these not even close

    The $3.95 Swanson Speedlight Plastic Orange Square does exactly the same thing, and nobody is interested in stealing it from you

      I use the Swanson pro. 30 bucks, anything more than that for a square is fucking stupid.

    $250 for a speed square is pretty crazy ngl. I guess if all you do is framing and have a limited tool set it makes sense, however most of the framers I've seen could invest in a plumb bob or a plate to plate level with some of the walls I've seen.

    Crazy, I bought a Sawnson speed square in the late seventies when I started framing, 90% of the homes I have built have trusses so most of the time you’re markings straight lines with it figuring out a cut angle. For staircases I use a rafter square, all the information you need is on it in fact their is a 200 page book on how to use it. I did buy a new one when they put the scribe notches on it.

  • @mojo7586

    I bought three of the Martinez squares but I'm done now, the extra deep pencil notches every so far are maddening. I scribe lines a lot using Pica Dry or Hultafor pencils and those deep notches snap the lead off eveytime as you move along. I messaged Mark a long time ago and he basically said screw off.
    Now don't get me wrong I love me some Martinez tools, I bought literally everything they've ever built including the early framing square for 500 bucks! But I'm just done with these. I use a speed square every single day and this is something I'm just not going to deal with anymore.

    $200 and it's not titanium? No

    • @lotus_8773
      @lotus_8773 Рік тому +1

      Not everything has to be titanium imo it's very high grade aluminum with etched markings, the same type of stuff used in air planes and rockets that... literally go into space... the prices of these squares are high yes because the materials but also because of extreme precision they offer, your regular run of the mill CNC system can not make these squares the equipment alone cost millions which in return gets pushed to the consumer, I personally love my squijig rafter square and after I bought the martines tool belt I'll NEVER and I mean never give that man another dime. Stiletto hammers, squijig squares, and diamondback bags.

    • @lotus_8773
      @lotus_8773 Рік тому +2

      Also if your building regular neighborhood homes and basic decks and things such as that you don't even need these tools, but I build extremely custom mansions in orange Beach/Pensacola Florida for billionaires that want everything including my framing to be within crazy tolerances and look absolutely stunning because it's open for so long so these precision tools absolutely have a place on our jobs sites and I love my fusion square

      If you actually use a square they do break and bend. Like my swansons would always break on the corner of the pivot point. My titanium Martinez has no damage after a year and half and if it does break I can replace the heel.

    Ive always thought these squares were ridiculous, because of price.
    I didn't realize until recently that it doubles as a Torpedo quite well. As a deck builder I use a Torpedo alot. And not having one in my belt would be amazing.

    I compare buying these expensive squares with buying a set of expensive golf clubs and then expecting you can play at the PGA level. The tool is limited by the knowledge and experience of the user. Money saved by buying a cheaper but good square can be spend on other tools. Plus, a separate torpedo can be used on all squares.

      No idea.. been using a Swanson for 10 years. Just found out this is a thing. Just ridiculous. I can do everything I need with a Swanson. No need to justify using a $300 square. No big shot here.

    Swanson's new speed square is just as good for 30$ Canadian! Its a speed square not a piece of jewelry lol. Martinez tools are beautiful but not practical for the money. They are to "show off" that you can extremely over pay for a tool because your favorite youtuber said they are cool. If someone gave me one i would certainly love to use it but if i can buy a track saw for the same price as a speed square then there is something off about the price of the speed square lol His new framing square is almost 400$ Canadian. "Framers" dont need a 400 framing square...ever...But beautiful tools just non sensical. Love your vids. Keep it up

I do have to say tho the new Swanson speed square is pretty awesome and I have stiletto hammers and diamondback and occidental pouches and all the Jazz. I’m sure that square is awesome but it’s just too skewed on price for me. That’s all. I’ve thought about buying one for sure but something in me just can’t agree with it.
