I work a lot as an IT consultant for several Toyota/Ford locations. When I walk through the service bays, I'm always amazed to see mechanics leaning, sitting on, scraping up against customer cars. I bought a 2018 Toyota and had to take it to the dealer for the first several maintenance routines. Finally had to do my own oil change on it and found that the mechanics had stripped out 2 bolts for my skid plate, and over torqued the oil filter housing. If you haven't heard, the oil filter housings on the newer Lexus's and Toyota's are over torqued often and it results in a cracked housing etc. Can't really get anything done right anymore. Makes it really hard to trust anyone working on your car... Just feel more comfortable when you know it's been done right or at least when you know you f'd something up and need to fix it correctly.

I would recommend the owner to look at the invoice to see what he got done. My 15 IS250 oil changes were $89 in PHX, and that's including a breakfast spread lol. Still a great video if anyone wanted to learn.

The Small o-ring is for the drain plug thats on the filter housing bottom if its vertical on some Toyota engines. ITS NOT suppose the be inside under the filter element!!
At 2:45 there is a grow where the small o-ring normally sits and normally there is threads in the middel for a plug. Dident it come with a plastic tube in the filter kit? if so that for draining the filter housing before removel.

I doubt it was really $400 but well done. Certainly beats the video of the guy who tried to use his Hoover to suck the oil out. One little tip though...take off a tire and slide it underneath your vehicle while you are that far underneath it as those jack stand locations are pretty narrow and could easily shimmy away if you start yanking on the filter with any kind of force.

Surprised that they changed the jacking point on the 3IS. On the 2IS there was an area on the subframe you could use and even that took the entire length of my jack to get to. I'm glad they changed the under panels to a better design... now you don't have to bend the oil cover out of the way anymore. After scraping the bottom a couple times being lowered I've had to use zip ties on some places since the mounting points on the cover were destroyed.

I know what he meant but it still makes no difference whether your change the oil filter first or drain the oil pan first. In fact it may be best to have both the oil plug on the oil pan off and the filter off at the same time.
Some change their oil filter first when their drain pan is empty. That way if they accidentally drop the old oil filter in the drain pan full of used oil it doesn't make a huge mess.

That's funny... I take my old ladies A4 to the Lexus dealership where she bought it because they are cheaper than me changing it myself. They started doing her boxster as well. Crown Lexus only charges me $40 for the full synthetic, I actually bring in my own filter, they wouldn't charge any more though, and they wouldn't give a discount either so... But still, cheaper than doing it myself.
You're in LA right? I'm in San Bernardino. If you really are interested in a manual conversion for your hatch, I have a gsr trans, all the linkage, and the hasport kit, you just have to come grab it. It's just taking up space right now, it's easier to give away than to sell. Was planning a b18c swap, ended up going k... You will have to get an manual ecu as well, sorry I don't have one at the moment.
If you want to get crazy, I have a quaife sequential trans that I bought for that transmission as well. I wish I could afford to be as generous with it as the trans, but it probably cost more than your new hatch, but I will give you a hell of a price on it if you were interested in it.

$400 really? I assume that cost at dealership includes some other services. DIY Cost usually below $50 on my lexus and subaru, but it costs more than double at dealership because other components will get inspected/lubed as well. I also get a chance to sit in/test drive new car while waiting at dealership.
