- Took a Night Lords list to a local 5 round tournament and shockingly went 3-2. Here's what I took to the Warhammer games and the people I fought.

"Love my Night Lords, but they are struggling."
So, on brand for the sons of Curze. Always the underdogs, despite being bullies.
To quote Bricky himself. "They will flee from any engagement where they don't have overwhelming number advantage. They are the opposite of regular space marines. They. Are. Scum."
Checks out.
We really need an update, and some named characters. A few of the night lords became daemon princes, they'd be nice to have, a few became Chaos Dreadnoughts, that would be fuckn tits to play, I think the best named character to receive as a model would be Decimus though, imagine the rules with the prophet of the Night Lords... the carnage would be amazing
I imagine the rule with Decimus would be something like you can write a action the oponent might take if the gamble pays off you receive some kind of bonus. Would be pretty cool for the prophet to just know shit would happen
Hey at least losing to Dark Angels as the Night Lords seems pretty canon.
As a Dark Angels player this pleases me to no end.
The NL were mostly successful in their objectives during the Thramas Crusade, though it did inflict heavy losses.
I was just thinking the same thing lol!
Couldn’t kill Sevatar and were carried by the weps daddy emp gave em 😂
Ave domius nox
Bricky strikes me as a guy who builds lists in the most fun way possible: bring unlikely unit choices with deep-cut combos that punch above their weight. He is exactly what everyone has the best time facing off against.
That's pretty much a word for word description of his bing bong candlestick list.
He’s the “I didn’t know you could do that?!” Kinda opponent but without being exploitative in an unfun sense.
I always try to have one of those. You can explain it to your opponent and if it's longer than 3 points of info they won't fully understand it. They're looking for the common aspects. My first GT of 9th my deathwatch stalker bolter indomitor team, with matching mission tactics and using 3-4strats/4-5 cp, 1 rounded ...2 mortarions,1 riptide and 1 knight on the 1st or 2nd turn. It's a 200 point team.
With the exception of the knight player knowing that's the only team with an extra bonus vs his units, were all like "you pre battle explained that so well and I still didn't connect all those dots until did it. Because I figured that was a lucky best case scenario for you"
I'm not into gotcha tricks. I explained that to them so if they tried to focus too much on it then they'd play into the other stuff I had.
I know the feeling, having played against Dark Angels 30 Terminators (Before It Was Cool) and Orks is always fun for both players.
I can see this set being it's own little series. Night Lords murdurize some guard with an odd number of Felanids (possibly saying "more than 1 ways to skin a cat") only to get ambushed by Dark Angels.
Another group of Night Lords take out more guard, but are then are deprived of the reinforcements they need to deal with the Iron Hands.
And because it's Arks of Omen, the Night Lords get approached by Belakor to sell their souls, only for the Night Lords to refuse.
All of it seems like it can be canon, from getting wrecked by loyalist marines, demolishing guard detachments, and resisting Chaos.
Some of the Night Lords became Daemon Princes though, Vandred Anrathi is one, he ran The Exalted war band and was "usurped" by Decimus the Prophet
I really dig this narrative take on the set 👍
bricky: "dark angels.."

OMG YOU PLAYED MY BOYFRIEND IN GAME FOUR. He told me he got lucky with his more experimental Iron Hands build (he usually is Salamanders) and did well against "some cool dude, seemed nice"," was some sort of popular YT guy". He sends me the link to this vid and was like "hey, that YT guy covered our game! :)" Lo-and-be-freaking-hold he's playing against my favorite 40k lore podcaster/co-host! I'm so sorry you had to see my rush paintjob on those marines. He says he'd love to play you again because we both love Night Lords and think they deserve better. (Also I told my bf next time he plays you to play Eldar jet bikes just to tilt you.)
Love to hear about this man's armies.
I think the biggest reason you felt like you needed to hide and seek your units is that shooting is SUPER killy for a lot of factions, especially if they get the first turns like Dark angels and Iron hands. A lot of games I've seen get affect the most by who can alpha strike better at the first turn with the second meta being "can you survive enough against the first turn shooting?" Makes me wish there was a system similar to the reactions stuff that HH 2.0 has going for 40k, or something so you just don't sit there for a while as your opponent just shoots you off the board or something early in the game.
Grimdark Future has alternating activations, so when one player activates a unit the opponent gets to activate one themselves immediately after, would fix a ton of issues imo
Blows my mind how his narration and enthusiasm can keep me starting at a word document for close to an hour, even though I don't play 40k 😅
Love the Warhammer stuff. Makes me want to get into it seeing you and the other DiceCheck boys playing
Just by watching you talk about your games I got so interested in the game that I bought and painted my own army! So excited to field my Tyranids against the horde of biomass that they are gonna consume.
Papa Bricky with a fireside chat about Night Lords? Hell yeah
"Khorne dogs are really good!" I too enjoy the taste of a sausage on a stick breaded with the perfect blend of honey sweetened cornmeal.
So pleased by this Night Lords list and lore accurate too. When you said it I virtual high fived you.
I just got into night lords and it’s so amazing having someone discuss how to play them effectively. Thank you bricky, we need more night lord videos.
Can't believe this wasn't on the main channel! Love hearing about your games!!!
chosen are quite nice bc for the high ap and powerfists. They have good synergies with the dark apostle and strat synergie
Love the use of the Mass Effect music in the background. Great ambiance. Love how you broke down the details of your army, keep up the great work Bricky
Also Chaos Spawn aren't daemons, they're humans that get mutated in the warp. They aren't possessed or anything, they're just crazy cuz their brain gets turned to mush.
^Maybe he was just more focused on bringing out the "Chaos free" side of the nightlords.
41:32 Only the Flesh Hound 'Sergeant' gets the flamer
Bricky looks like a totally different super professional person with the glasses 🕶️
Reminds me of that +PERCEPCION energy from the Fallout series. Keep up the fantastic content you wonderful human being and I hope you keep enjoying your life and doing the best you can. Shout out to DK and Shy
Bruh, I was just looking for more of these to watch. Keep up the good work
I miss my jump pack lord so much, why'd they do the sons of Curze so dirty?

Some notes about the dark angels :
Ravenwing unit can advance and shoot WITH a malus, but one of his talonmaster can avoid it by picking a relic to always hit on 2 regardless of modifyers.
Talonmaster give a reroll to 1 to wound but only for CORE which they arent
Additionally the Devastating Ravenwing buff isn't +3 inch its 6+ inv for moving 5+ for advancing
@@FistSlaminElite1999 No ; ravenwing unit gain jinx which is :
Models in this unit have a 5+ invulnerable save against ranged attacks. In your Movement phase, if this unit Remains Stationary, it loses this invulnerable save until the start of your next Movement phase.
Each time this unit Advances, until the start of your next turn, models in this unit have a 4+ invulnerable save against ranged attacks.
In ADDITION to that, Dark angels have the Sons of the Lion doctrine which gave them different abilities in each doctrine :
Speed of the Raven: While the Devastator Doctrine is active for your army:
Add 3" to the Move characteristic of RAVENWING models from your army.
RAVENWING units from your army are eligible to shoot with in a turn in which they Advanced. Each time a model in that unit makes a ranged attack in a turn in which it Advanced, that attack suffers the penalty incurred to the hit roll as if firing an Assault weapon.
@@FistSlaminElite1999 not even close. All Ravenwing have Jink which gives a 5+ invulnerable save against shooting attacks if they moved, which improves to a 4+ if they advance. It’s not Devestator doctrine that gives them it.
The Devestator doctrine gives Ravenwing +3 to their base movement characteristic, and all weapons (including heavy and rapid fire types) can shoot with a -1 to hit penalty if they advance (basically all of their ranged weapons can be treated as assault weapons when they advance).
@@Ezekiel88210 ah thanks for the clarification my b

Bricky calling the immense dmg on the tank "swingy" knowing full well that Doomsday cannons exist 😂
What the hell? I literally just watched and finished your other two videos while I'm getting other work done. Crazy good timing!
Same!
Those Dark Angels broke you harder than the Lion broke Curze's back.
I imagine Dark Angels are usually a touchy subject for Bricky
I feel like a litteral child every time I giggled at "we have come for you"
Wow, you had a brutal gauntlet to run that GT.
Hurray, Bricky recaps tournaments are always a highlight of the week!
Having just started up a new Mass Effect playthrough the other day I very much appreciate hearing it's music wherever I can.
"Game two! ... Dark Angels"
[Volume knob goes all the way up]
my man out here with Chaos Predator tanks like it's 4th edition, love it
You can't tell us about these sick conversions and not put up pics man!
CSM are in such a dire situation rn, and for some reason they drop us Vashtorr, who is also terrible. CSM eternal suffering continues
Great job brick, loving these tournie recap vids!
I knew Bricky liked and mentioned Mass Effect before- but hearing the Uncharted Worlds(aka the map theme) track on the background at the beginning was amazing
Not Enough Warp Talons, Your Arms Are Now Forfeit.
The Mass Effect background music was getting to me, it's been so long since I've heard it 😂
22:13 Curze after meeting the Lion for a parlay.
I've been running Alpha Legion recently and do something similar like you do with the turn 1 deep strike. AL has a pregame move which is really fun to use on a squad of Warp Talons that move 12. Charge turn 1, also giving them Diabolic Strength for 71 Strength 6 AP-2 attacks that also contest fall backs. Then on turn 2 can fall back and charge (because Alpha Legion) which is really fun to do
Your opponent should have looked closer at the Khorne Dog data sheet. Only the Gore Hound gets the flame weapon.
As a mechanicus player bricky complaining that marines get shredded without armor of contempt is so relatable
"It was rough"
Was it... Leeman Rough?
Eh? No? OK I'll go back to my hole.
Man's thought he could play mass effect music in the background and thought we wouldn't notice
Bricky in the thumbnail is channeling some powerful Dad Talk energy.
Good to see I’m not the only one appreciating the weighty *girth* of the Master of Executions.
This music has me thinking, imagine night lords doing their thing in Mass Effect.
I mean... there was a reason the Dark Angels violently annihilated Night Lords during the Horus Heresy
I mean, the Night Lords are vermin. And we all know that the best way to deal with vermin is to call the exterminator
Couldn’t kill Sevatar 😂😂😂😂
Enjoy Vashtor raping the Rock 😂😂😂
What weapon would you change the lightning claw to? A powerfist? Excited to know your take on night lords in boarding action
Bricky: Full deathcore army.
Me: Hell yeah gimme some filthy breakdowns, bleghs and breees!
One thing he forgot to mention about the Talonmasters:
Talonmasters have Inner Circle. So even IF you to shoot them, they also have permanent Transhuman.
And one can be equipped with a relic power sword that is S+2 AP -4 and Damage 2 PLUS gives an extra attack when you fight
No, even if it is inner circle, the transhuman is only for infantry.
Statistically even with a lightning claw, the Lord Discordant outputs substantially more by putting Flames of Spite + Daemon weapon on him instead.
I friggin LOVE this list. I play Iron Warriors. Like the NL, they're not leading the pack. And I prefer having a REAL CSM list where the marines themselves are waging war. Is that so wrong? The fact you took this to a tournament is beyond awesome. This is my kinda Warhammer.
Same I've been taking tons of legionnaires with iron warriors lately with the free gear and it's been working great. Wish we got more points cuts on our infantry for losing armor of contempt.
I have fought that exact list in my local grouping.. Man.. I learned how to roll all my invunerable rolls at least.
Love the Mess Effect music in the background
Not sure if you have ever revealed it in a video, but I would love to see that horseback Knight Lord Disco' Lord that he was talking about around 4:34 in the video. Always a pleasure hearing someone run a traitor legion without demons, I know a lot of demon units are pretty powerful so that must have been a gut-check at first, but it is definitely lore-accurate. Night Lords view Chaos as a weakness, much like Iron Warriors.
love the mass effect background galaxy music
I audibly gasped "Oh no" when he said iron hands
Stopped paying attention for a second and suddenly wondering why bricky is BEWILDERED by corndogs
Not sure if someone mentioned this already, but only the Gorehound gets the flamer. The regular flesh hounds are only melee.
Disco lord gives predators +1 to hit. Any friendly Legion vehicle
B in the back just being consumed by the sack
@51:00 on the matter of buffing vehicles
warpsmith can give them +1 to hit, iron warriors have a WLT to give them wonton destruction (exploding 6s with heavy) all game long
iron warriors have a strat to reroll a DAMAGE roll that functions for vehicles, the same strat also doubles the enemy model count for blast rules and allows blast to shoot in melee
black legion can also give them +1 to hit if they are firing at the closest enemy
i believe that is it, all other "vehicle" buffs are for daemon engines and not vehicles
so yeah, basically nothing, no ways to get rerolls to hit or wound
also khorne chosen are NUTTY in melee, they actually outperform possessed, 4 attacks at 6/-4/1 vs 5 attacks at 5/-2/2 yeah the possesed are 2 damage and have the extra attack, but the extra str and extra 2ap means vs any sort of elite unit chosen will utterly rip through it
chosen also have core while possessed dont, possessed do have the daemonkin keyword, but there are more core buffs then daemonkin ones (things like lord reroll aura, literally ALL dark apostle prayers so reroll hits, +1 wound, transhuman, basically all WLT that arent word bearers)
chosen can be proper doom ball units, they fill a different role from possessed who are missiles, you yeet possessed out as fast as possible and send them to kill somehting and die, while chosen you hold back a bit more so that when you DO send them out they will utterly anihilate whatever they touch
Dont forget the wantons if they kill sum-ting...see what I did there
That first guard opponent sounds like he needed to read his stratagems if touching into infantry was keeping him down. Acceptable Losses would have let him put up a fight at least.
Cat-skrin gives a hard 'forward dogs' vibe. iykyk
Bricky is such a Johnny that, as an extremy Johnny, I can appreciate the Johnny-ness.
Funny Bricky you mention the Table Top battles, I just started using it as OTC? Battles got updated and replaced by the app. And holy fuck I love it so so damn much.
The Mass Effect bgm for these videos is peak fucking vibes. Keep up the great work Bricky m'boy
Only the Gore Hound (sergeant) have the flamer in the Hounds squad.
Bricky's Night Lords videos are top tier.
Worth noting that not every khorne dog gets a flamer, just the "champion", so it's one flamer per squad. Still insane though
Bricky got me into warhammer mainly the sisters of battle i bought some cant wait for them to get here
How adorable he does look like the Doge Glass on
with the predator, im running it in my EC, since it gets the slaanesh keyword for free you can use the murderous perfection to turn a miss into an exploding hit or a damage roll into a 6 but it only works in EC since that strat only works on a slaanesh unit
So what I've learned is all-game Dev Doctrine with unlimited Heavy weapons might be a problem.
That first imperial guard player has the same dice luck as me lol.
Oh the ME soundtrack...gets me every time 😢❤
Dogs only have 1 Flamer in the squad.
Oh don’t worry bricky, the world eaters players know about the khorne dogs
This is actually kind of the way I run Sisters. Half of my army goes to reserves. 2 squads of Repentia, 2 squads of Zephyrim (So repentia can reroll charges), 1 squad of Seraphim, Ephrael Stern sometimes and Mommy Celestine. All that into deep strike/reserves. Turn 2-3 are always really long and fun since everything arrives then and if I find a non-screened spot, gotta shove Celestine there.
Surprised the imperial guard didn't use Acceptable losses. You can just shoot into friendly infantry that are in melee.
the galaxy map music thooo fuck that shit slaps
FYI only the squad leader for khorne dogs has the flamer
Bricky I found a good solution to make possessed night lords work from a lore perspective. They don't have to be night lords themselves. As the night lords view chaos as a drug of the weak, why don't they force loyalist space marines to become possessed instead and then chain them in their ships and release them during battle. This is how I make possessed work in my night lords army
A small GT with the friends? Guys? So, little guys?
the vanquisher is a lot better with elite sharpshooters, you can reroll any units gun once so its alot more likely to get the reroll off
You can get rerolls on the predator using eternal vendetta but that's a lot of investment for what it is against one target.
Generally speaking vehicles are good but only in iron warriors where they are hard to kill which gives more value to the tanks due to just getting more shots off
The advance and shoot anything with Talonmasters is still -1 while in Dev doctrine, but the relic to always hit on 2s even in overwatch is pretty much always taken - so you have the relic on one and the obsec trait on the other and they're nightmare fuel.
19:15 Inexperienced player. He should have been reserving points for "Acceptable Losses" order.
god bless that cat girl guardsman player.
How did my disappointment of a legion do?
Honestly I'm stealing that cultist mob tech never even realized you could get so many special weapons for just 75 points. Love my CSM getting some love as an iron warriors lover myself, Also iron warriors are the only guys that can make tzeentch Marines work nice with their warlord trait that let's them move and remain stationary. It's so sad how all of your cool flavorful CSM armies got fucked over by the termi ball and GWs kneejerk nerf and how much space Marines got buffed at the same time. We need some point cuts desperately on our units for losing AOC, or atleast give us all game wanton destruction like how space Marines get devastator.
tbf there is a reason that arks of omen DA are one of the top armies. The ravenwing special units and the deathwing terminators are ridiculously strong if used right
Hopefully they get the phat nerf hammer every DA player I’ve met is fking insufferable
i wish you would have shown us the models while you were going over the army that would have been nice
Yeah, the Chosen tend to lose when comparing to the Possessed and Termies. One advantage they have is being able to use Rhinos.
I play D&D and MTG. But this game seems hella complex. Like I can already get a feel for how it's played, but at a high level I can only imagine how many rules you have to memorize.
Love this kind of videos. Encourages me to f*ck around more with my Age of Sigmar lists.
Would take more editing, but it would be nice to see pics of your units while going through an army list you played 😊
While I agree with bricky that csm tanks need support, I found a lot of success with a predator annihilator and a warpsmith. 200 points to get 2+ hits on big las shots, during AOC. Now it'd be stronger and weaker in twain, but as a backfield holder and deep strike denier, it payed itself off in spades.
