The shipping container knows where it is.
It knows this because it knows where it isn't.
By subtracting where it is, from where it isn't, or where it isn't, from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference, or deviation.
I absolutely love the “We took a fishing boat and strapped guns to it” vibe these ships radiate!
Yeah I adore it as well. The Commitment to having the line ships have random layouts and shapes is amazing for the flavor.
I agree that the randomization of the visual modules is a fantastic way of characterizing the civilian ships. :)
It's a lot of extra work for what is a cosmetic feature but I really feel it was worth it.
@@Phrosphor Do you know if once generated, a ship you saved in your fleet with a name will remain the same in each game you play? That would make sense, since it's supposed to be the same ship each time.
This has gotta be one of the coolest space game out right now. Their future concept of a strategic campaign is gonna be insane if they can execute on every point of their Concept Document.
I am so excited for it.
where can i read their concept doc pls?
Honestly, with autocannons, dumbfire missiles and general shape of OSP ships, i feel a little bit of highfleet vibes.
You inspired my fleet naming convention for my last stream!
@@Phrosphor you welcome! I was also inspired by this fact and named first of my Ocello's "Sevastopol".
More DAKKA!
@@tiagodagostini WAAAGH!!! my friend, WAAAGH!!!
The only thing I'll say from the role-playing standpoint of a faction of civilian ships pressed into military service, is that there wouldn't be large numbers of tugs to press into service. :)
Hah, that is true, I guess my fleet will just have 'all' the tugs then.
Not necessarily. If running a ship in space would be considered like running a company on earth today, then having a tug or 2 to help you get around in tight spaces would totally be a thing. I'd compare it to companies of today having their own truck transportation, yeah you can hire a 3rd party company, but having your own is more reliable and cheaper. If a barge has 100-200 crew, then hiring a couple more to crew a tug to help you go around places would not be a bad idea.
The game continues to feel overwhelming and hard to grapple with, despite the time I've spent in skirmishes. And now a whole new faction comes in that appears to have even more demanding approach to gameplay. Getting good at the game's basics and understanding your fleet enough to have a standup fight is difficult all on it's own. But setting up and properly executing an OSP ambush, or playing to the faction's strengths or thematic feels incredibly demanding.
The game really needs some practice scenarios and drills, separate from and beyond the tutorial. But in the meantime, Phrosphor, if you can come up with some videos to bridge the gap between the tutorial and a competent battle, that would be really incredible. This faction's emphasis on special tactics seems like we would get a massive benefit from specific skill & tactics drills and guides, etc. A detailed breakdown on a strategy, it's setup, the manual execution, how to practice it, and the different contexts it could happen in.
I totally agree with what you are saying, the complexity level is high and that is before you get to the information warfare layer. I have been in games with high tier players before and there are times when your fleet just suddenly dies to a missile strike seemingly from nowhere!
My question would be, how would these drills work? I guess I need to sit down and really play the faction to work out the best strategy.
@@Phrosphor As an example, my mind goes straight to that Tugboat. That's got assassin ambush ship written all over it, to me. So it leads to the question of how to keep it alive long enough to unload its salvo, avoid getting primaried, and manage to get another strong attack in after that first big commit. Doesn't seem like a simple task.
Though there's still lots of space for that outside of the OSP rollout, like within the info warfare layer you mentioned. How To Missile From Nowhere. How To Not Get Missiled. But either way you're right that once OSP lands, it'll all change.
There are a number of steam guides and a buddy system on the discord to teach people how to play. But you aren't wrong, the skill level is quite high
This game is really hard to learn so I definitely feel for you, but the best way to learn is throw yourself straight into multi-player skirmishes. I'd maybe spend a little time in singleplayer skirmishes to get the hang of the controls but as soon as you know the basic controls the fastest way to learn is going straight into multiplayer.
I would also highly suggest checking the official Discord server out. They have a dedicated channel for new players to ask questions.
People= omg its so hard to play faction wise, setting traps, etc etc
Me= monke see track, monke shoot. Track not explode or change course, contemplate. Only a decoy that didn't flinch when being shot at.
Monke see missile, put jammer and shoot everything while stepping on the gas to escape.
Monke radar goes wild, send another monke out of jamming field and tell monke where the screamer is.
Monke must watch corners, ask other monke for more more info.
More boomstick make monke happy. If cannot bring more boomstick, make current boomstick spit rock faster.
Missile are too expensive. Monke do not trust missile. Monke trust boomstick barrage better. But with that monke must hide before shoot.
And of course, when in doubt, stick with the tribe. Monke tribe stronk together.
They basically added the OPA into the game.
can people just stop drawing "expanse" likeness to everything in space.. really.
this game is essential cold war era water navys in space. Not expanse :/
I do love the books but the tv show really made it into something its not. We are not talking days and weeks for travel etc.
@@jmkhenka The ship style, weapons, colors, and some of the terminology is suggestive of The Expanse. They now added a faction that is the OPA but they changed one letter. I can point you to a few other space games that aren't inspired by The Expanse, this one is
No, I don't think it's like the OPA. Instead, I think this is an imagining of an asymetric naval space war, between a hegemon and a small separatist, and the logic that flows from that. The OPA was probably imagined from the same root, and there's lots of other media, and perhaps history, that will bare similarities because it's drawn from that root.
@@Sparra2629 Unlike the Belters they have habital worlds, and believe they give more than they take from the Shelter Alliance, and wish to succeed politically. They have senators and everything.
Go to Bethel for that Expanser.
@@jmkhenka jee sorry that The Expanse was a really good show and the similarities are ALOT with the OPA, even down to them having a naval light cruiser.
A nice look into the OSP! Can't wait to play around with it in a few days.
Great summary, Phros. Love seeing what's coming out of this game, looks very promising
Im really looking forward to the update. I think taking a mix of plasma and cannon on the broadside of the bulk freighter will be fun. And imagine the support capability of burning off the armor of ships so your team can get more dps with their smaller cannons. Maybe even just having a freighter with a whole broadside of plasma for that purpose will be good. And the container liner just looks like too much fun. A combination of mine clippers and the big container liner would be a fun fleet i think.
Mines are great, I have tried pretty much everything you suggested and it is all a lot of fun!
Great vid mate!
You can also use the container liner to turn the entire battle space into a giant minefield with the container mine launcher.
Each container deploys 2 mines and you can take up to 240 containers in the bank launchers which is 480 mines.
Or you can go for memes and use the rocket containers which fire 4 rockets per container which is 960 rockets.
I love the design of the new ships, some of the original ones had weard perportions im my opinion, but these ones look really nice, Im also really exited to experiment with them.
one of the funnest parts of this game is building your ship and its weapon systems. Its almost like building a deck in magic the gathering.
It is such a time sink, I get lost in the fleet builder for hours!
Just wanted to say you did a really good job on this video. Lots of information, simply presented and well edited. I subbed keep it up yo.
Thank you very much. I felt like I needed to justify my early access and thought this was the best way to help the community prepare.
So the little ships are the tanks and the big ships are the DPS.
I don't know if keeping huge chunks of your points back waiting for the right moment is a good investment. Those big freighters represent fairly large investments and if they can't be constantly distracting or firing you are going to be fighting at a disadvantage but it seems like if they attempt to get stuck in like that they will be torn to shreds by their opposite number.
Except the Ocello, which breaks that dynamic by just being a solid hull with amazing versatility. Expect to see a lot to start with.
Both of the clippers are really cute.
The Bulk Freighters are beautiful.
Yeah I am in loving the Aesthetics.
So the Bulk Freighter is like a paper/glass battleship? :)
Pretty much, it can mount a pretty devastating broadside but it doesn't have the armor for a prolonged
engagement.
I dig this. The shipping container missiles do remind me of the rules for the Firefly table top game that came out years ago you could basically kick out cargo that was just a missile that was made to look like a box of goods to take out enemy ships
I was concerned that the new faction would be really under powered, so it is nice to see that they have a lot of unique weapons and faster ships. Still they might be underpowered in the sense that they are more difficult to play effectively, so among newbie players they could still be underpowered.
The learning curve is already high for the game and the OSP take it even harder. I am glad they have some really nice starter fleets.
It's the opposite actually, it's rather op with those plasma guns that have 12km range and stupid accuracy melting away the enemys armor. After which all you need to do is unload the massive amounts of dakka you can push out with the 100mm guns and completely rape the enemy with few a barrages.
You can also fit enough defender missiles and PD to blot out the sun so dealing with massive missile barrages is easy peasy. the funniest part of that is that you can do that with a goddamn starter fleet.
Would love a run through of the other ships like you did in this video.
You mean going through the Alliance faction ship Roster?
@@Phrosphor yea exactly!
Im soooooo pumped for the tugboat
It might be my favorite ship!
Hey my man. Long time no see
Howdy!
Great video.
Can you point me towards a guide on how to use the point of interest tool, please? I can't see any info on it anywhere.
Son of the Alliance, we've been trying to reach you about your Axford's extended warranty.
-OSP tugboat
Hah, I think this comment has been sitting in my subconscious as I just named my latest missile design "Extended Warranty"!
I have yet to see the shipping container missiles do much of anything which kinda sucks. It would be kinda cool if they modified their mines to look like random space debris
23:49 24:12 Just like the Bulk Freighters, the Container liners also had random layouts.
It's a feature I really love!
So if this was mass effect they would be the quarian fleet.
Certainly a similar theme in the repurposing of ships.
Jupiter incident 2 we deserve
Ah the Jupiter Incident, what a ride.
So, hear me out: bulk freighter with 4 plasma and 4 C30s. Plasma shreds the armor while the rapid 100mm brrrrrt the interior.
Guess I'm a tug boat captain now.
Join the Dark Side!
Cargo cult! Cargo cult!
Cargo cult!
The clamps should have the ability to hold 1 container
Or help push bigger smaller ships!
Do you need to worry about friendly fire with mines or are they smart enough to exclude your ships IFF?
If you don't need to worry about them seeking out your ships, a very nasty surprise could be a cannon tug and mine shuttle combo. Lay mines further out, then have the tug harass and hide. When a ship is sent to deal with the tug the mines jump em.
Mines will target friendly ships without comms, so it’s advised to not fight around your mines as your comms might get shot out and suddenly your mines turn on you.
Mines are scary because if your ship loses comms (damage, power cut or comms jamming) they will stop sending IFF to the mines and they will attack your ship.
Like and comment
As an eve online player.... so these are the minmatar and the alliance are caldari...
Belta lowda!
Oye!
Unfortunately Bulk Freighters just don't have the power to allow for rails or plasma weapons
I have seen a multi 100mm + Plasma BF. It was pretty insane.
BELTALOWDA
Oye!
Mines mines mines
