I have to admit you have really opened my ears to the engl amps. All the engl's I've heard have been on your videos and they sound fantastic. They seem to have a very even split across the lows, mids, and highs. Giving a massive tone. They seem to have no weak areas when it comes to their tones. So well rounded.👍🏼
The Engl for kind of style you presented, IMO, sounds so good. It has the aggression and toothy mid-forward thing with a full but tight bottom. That and the SLO-30 are my favs of your top 5.
Hmm....keeping it to one/brand: 1) Wizard w800 100w: An incredible combination of clarity, punch, tighness and great feel. Worth the hype. 2) Friedman SSV2: Might be the nicest feeling/easist playing "big" amp I have owned. Gorgeous clean channel and has massive range on the gain channels. Voiced so so well! 3) 1996 Bogner Ecstasy 101b: Has alot of the qualities I love about the Friedman, but not as much range. Was my #1...until I got a Wizard. 4) Fryette Pittbull Ultra-lead: Tight, clear and punishing. Best metal amp I have owned. 5) Mesa Boogie mkivB: Last of the "classic" Mark style amps and one of the very best: can really bridge vintage and modern so well. Tougher to dial in than my other listed amps. Honorable mention: Hughes and kettner triamp mk2. This amp is criminally underrated. It can do crystal clean, to Uberschall-ish (that is what ch3b reminds me of) mayhem and does it all well amd with great clarity and feel. My other amps do specfic things better, but if you are looking for a do-it-all channel switcher....give one of these a chance. Especially for what they can be had for now.
You have one of the sickest collections around. I haven’t owned nearly as many amps, but thankfully I’ve owned enough to know what I love I’m a simple chug monkey, I tend to love a good ol EVH 5150 and my Orange MKIII RV100 so im glad you gave your Rockerverb a mention!
Great list. As a long time viewer, I almost expected the ironheart or just five helix models. Next please do five favorite amp models across all digital platforms.
Great video Jon! It seems with all your new acquisitions we are about due for a “1 riff on 100 different amps” type comparison maybe using the badass Engl 4x12?? 😎 can’t wait for more man!
There are so many wonderful amps, for me it's impossible to choose only 5 or 10 amps. It also depends on the music styles. For my taste, I really enjoy the Archon 50, the Orange 50w mk3, the Laney Ironheart 60w, the Amp1 Mercury, the JPTR FX Titan 250, Bogner Überschall Ultra...
That Soldano sounds killer. It's really got the mids right, not too scooped or too pronounced in kind of weird frequencies but still very present, and it's tight but not quite tight as a termite's ass, it's still chunky. They're not super well known for metal but SLO was used on killswitch engage's album and it really does kick huge ass when used the right way.
Yo! Could you do a series or a video about popular amp blends? (Like dual rectifier with JCM 900) (vox with fender etc) that would help us who don’t have so many amps learn about blending in recording songs etc. anyway, big fan of this channel and love seeing how many videos you e put out recently! 🤘🏼
Haha I was just gonna say the Driftwood, then it came at the end :D Personally, my current top 5 wish-list is (in no order): - RedSeven Leviathan - Driftwood Darkest Nightmare - Lichtlaerm Prometheus - Marshall JCM800 - Mesa Boogie Mark VII I already have the ENGL Savage 120 Mk2 and Fireball 25 so I think I'm all set for ENGL sounds! I'm also just really curious what RedSeven will release next, they teased a lot in the FB group brand feature about upcoming amps so it will be very interesting to follow them :) As for Soldano sound, I think I'm more interested in getting like a Mezzabarba MZero OD (OD version or Eric Steckle) but that's just me!
Controversial opinion, but I think my favorite amps that you have are the Wangs amps. They are the perfect Marshall clone and every time you have one on it sounds incredible.
For me it's relatively easy to choose a favorite because i don't have a collection that huge. I'd take my Engl Fireball 25 because it's very practical for bedroom aswell as band use, and i actually don't need my huge 4 channel amp. I'm curious about that Lichtlaerm, but the homepage does not provide any information.
Prometheus so good in the right hands you won't beat it. I played the behemoth of amps the megalith beta Wizard Hell razor and Prometheus is right up there with those

Would you record with that or was there something you didn't liked about it? I can't afford one of the amps of the dreams RN and I wonder how it compares to the big guns and it looks like you're the only person I could ask.
you should do a video on your top brands of pedals. and what makes each of the brands offer as far as certain type of pedal as well as at least one pedal that would be like there "Flag ship" of the brand.
interesting you didn't like pushed mode on single rec. i leave channel 1 on pushed all the time. low gain, low bass. gives me a nice strong mid forward edge of break up tone that sits nicely in a mix. i have the 2nd version though. all those amps sounded great, i really liked the ivory and red wood amp, it was a solid tone and not too many switches, which is why i like the single rec over other mesa's.
"There's no order" of your 5 top amps.... Lol. You're a true good reviewer (or at least, you're not going to tell your supporters or companies). I do understand. Lol. However, we do know that we all have our own ONE "favorite" amp (or sound) for sure - not a few. 😅
No EVH?! Not even in the apology?! I see how it is. Lololol but for real I’ve noticed the hype dying down on the EVH amps and I kinda gotta wonder why. I think mine is just infinitely incredible. But hey if people forget about it, maybe I’ll have a “unique tone” lolololololol
This is the question! My guess is he has an in demand full time job that allows him a fair amount of free time and a large budget. I mean he’s also a great mix engineer but even multi million dollar studios don’t have this many amps.. But what the fuck do I know!? Maybe UA-cam pays really well
@@becominghuman3561The reason 7 figure studios don't have that many amps, is most times because of 2 reasons: 1. The money also goes into monitoring, room treatment, outboard recording, mixing and mastering gear, servicing that gear, assistants/other engineers or freelancing work, top notch electronics. Plus, which a lot of people underestimate: Cables and cable management solutions. A cable not working is a huge problem, with the rates they ask for and can have a bad impact on the work of an artist, if they are standing or sitting there and need to watch the engineer(s) find the fault in their signal chain. Plus pristine drum kits in stellar shape, tons of microphones, huge expensive consoles. 2. People who are going into a studio like that most likely can afford their own high end gear and often (not always) bring that with them, because that's what they are used to, that's their sound. Studios often have the classics and a few more beside that, but that's it. He makes guitar type content and is a guitarist who loves gear. A huge and high quality console alone can easily cost more than double the amount of amps we see in the background here. It also helps working with brands, where they offer you a discount, too. And some little gear is free, I assume. And obviously he has a well paying job beside the UA-cam channel. Respect for everyone uploading quality content on a regular basis on the side of having a job.
I actually don't know if he's doing this fulltime or has another job next to it. Do you have kids, Jon? I know how much of my monthly pay goes to the kids and or my student loan 😉. But don't forget that his channel is probably a business, which means tools bought for the business can be tax deducted , which is 21% less for him. I think he's in the phase where money made from UA-cam is being put back into the channel .

Nice video mate. Your riffs and songs are excellent.
See if you can get your hands on a Boogie IIC+ or Mark IVB.
I guessed half right! Silly of me not to consider the last two! D'oh! 🤦🏻♂️Great video, buddy!

Gotcha! Such a good tone. I like the “dryness” or something. What OwnHammer would you use for it in a pinch?

What do you think about the amps modules that Synergy are coming out with? Do they compare with the real heads?
I honestly don't know...

must be like 50 to 70k worth of amps in there
