It's really important to make sure this valve is working correctly on your water heater. Test it annually, and replace it if it leaks!
Could I get a link or brand for the thumb-operated driver at 9:53 ? Thanks for the video, wish me luck!
Hi Ozan - I would call Cash Acme (manufacturer of these things) and ask: 877-700-4242. Good luck!
@@oozcan73 hi @Ozan Ozcan..I'm having the same problem, was wondering how you made out and was/is there a upgraded part # or something?
Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏
@@AmplifyDIY Great channel! Liked,subbed,shared 🤝 👍
Do you mean to replace that valve annually. I never touched mine in 10 years.
Was quoted $450 when I had a plumber out doing some other work at the house, which did include a $100 valve. Bought a $20 valve from Lowes and changed it out myself following this video, thanks!
Great job!
At the beginning, it looked really intimidating, but i followed your process step by step. And it worked! No more dripping.
Thank you for the straightforward explanation for how to change this valve. You 100% nailed it. Changed T&P valve without any problem. You're a gentleman and a scholar!
Glad it helped!
This is one of the best diy tutorials I’ve seen! My wife will think I’m wonderful!
Excellent instructions, vocal quality, editing, and camera work! What are you, some kind of a genus?
Wow, thank you!
Greed. He makes several great DIY videos. I've save many hundreds of dollars from the videos
Yes...very gd💯💪🏾💯💪🏾💯💪🏾
So the "professional" plumber that installed my water heater just went on a tirade and called me every name in the book just for asking if this is something covered under warranty. I've never heard a business "professional" use so many F-bombs towards a customer!... Anyways after my initial shock I found my way to this video and was instantly put at ease. Obviously I gave it a thumbs up and instantly hit the subscribe button. Thank you sir, you are a godsend!
Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately psycho contractors are out there giving the good ones a bad name
I've had my share of these crotchety old plumbers. I suspect the ones who tell you to never do maintenance on your water heater just want to sell you another one in four years.
@rickarchambault4756 it's a double edge sword. If you flush it you could have a leak that sediment was blocking. Or cause one due to negative pressure. But yes it. Is a mechanical piece of equipment. The best maintenance advice I can give is clean out around the burner. Ie any dirt/hair. There's a reason most companies only warranty for a couple years.
This is the best DYI tutorial online. Straight to the point and not over complicating anything.
I just had a new Gas Water Heater, so watching all your Water Heater video to understand more. Very helpful. Thanks.
You're one heck of a teacher. You gave me the confidence to replace my valve. Thanks much!
Great job!
Found a leak on the overflow pipes outside the house. Came across your video, opened and closed the pressure valve a few times and the leak stopped! Didn't even know what a pressure valve was. Thank you for the informative video.
Nice job!
I loved the no “pressure joke” at the end!! Also thank you from Oakland, CA!!! ☺️
Great tutorial I followed your instructions for replacing both my T&P valve and the pressure tank and it worked like a charm while saving me the cost of a plumber!
Excellent video, thank you! After watching this I was able to replace the T&P valve on my water heater with no issues!
Really appreciate this video. Discovered a leaky valve Friday afternoon and was left thinking I'd need to find a plumber over the weekend. Found this video and after a trip to Lowes to buy the $18 replacement valve, was confident I could follow your specific directions to fix the issue. Took about 15 mins, if that. Thanks much!
Hey Darrell, that’s fantastic! I’m so glad the video was helpful to you. Thanks for watching!
Really informative, so far the best I have seen.
After flush the valve was so corroded it would not stay closed anymore. Honestly glad I did job myself. So easy. Every parts place in town had one as well.
Great job!
Thanks for the video. Its always great to have something to go to to ensure I am following the proper steps.
What a great presentation! It’s so nice to see one of these videos where the presenter is prepared, calm and clear. You obviously practiced and got all the information correct BEFORE starting (or edited out any stumbles). I “liked” and subscribed and wish everyone would make their videos like this one. Thanks for taking the pressure off my water heater as well as taking the pressure off subscribing 😉 (nice touch). I did subscribe though!
I totally agree on this statement and it made me a subscriber: "where the presenter is prepared, calm and clear. You obviously practiced and got all the information correct BEFORE starting (or edited out any stumbles).
I've never done this and I thought it would be exactly that simple. Thank you so much for going through all the steps you did to make sure I get the correct item that I'm replacing.
Glad it helped!
You are a great teacher, thank you. PSN music not necessary, especially when we’re listening for water moving through the tank
I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching!
When you do a video, your sure do it right. I learned a lot and am no longer afraid to change my dripping pressure valve. Thanks you very much
Glad to help!
This is the exact heater that I have. I flushed it a month ago, and just tonight, I noticed it was leaking. The closeups were very good. I feel confident after watching this that I won't screw anything up replacing this valve.
I'm one of your newest subscribers, and really enjoy your production qualities and the thoroughness with which you cover your topics. One thing I've found helpful after doing any kind of plumbing work like this is to remove all faucet aerators before turning the water back on. There's bound to be a bit of sediment loosened that can clog those things quickly. Thanks for the great work!
This is a great tip. Thanks for the advice!
Thank you for this video! I was a bit overwhelmed having no understanding of this combined with the fear of "making things worse" doing attempting the fix myself. This whole process took me about 30 minutes and worked great!
Awesome, Ian! Nice job getting it done!
Thanks so much! Just finished replacing my old leaky valve exactly as described. The old valve had so much build up. No more leaks as of yet.
Nice work!
"User Serviceable", loved it. I'm on it!!
Thank you! I needed the pep talk at the beginning because mine started leaking after annual testing.
Great tutorial. I’ll be doing this myself now. Thank you!
As a first time home owner this video helped me out a lot.
Very thorough tutorial. Thanks.
You're the hero 2020 needs!
Phenomenal video thank you! This helped me complete the repair from start to finish!
Glad it helped!
This video was great help. Quick and to the point, simple instructions. Replaced my valve in less than 15 mins with replacement parts.
Nice work!
Another great one ADIY. Spot on with use and checking of that overpress valve. I called my manufacturer and they sent me one for free so might try that approach when getting a replacement. Probably worried about lawsuits. Play dumb when on the phone and say that yours is dripping slightly. Probably good to replace every 5 years anyway! Great job.
I hadn’t even thought to try calling the manufacturer to I quite about replacements. Great tip!
Huge Thank You. This video was exactly what I needed. Just finished replacing my temp/pressure safety valve. This was a pretty simple job, but boy was this video a life saver as it was my first time completing this task. Didn’t use pipe dope, but only teflon tape. Not a big fan of the dope getting in the hot water. Will monitor and if it needs dope I can easily redo the task as needed. The original valve did have dope applied though. Again, thanks man!
Aw man, you made my day! I love hearing that my videos are helpful. Thanks for watching!
Pipe dope is only supposed to go on the male treaded part.
Excellent, easy to follow, video. I replaced one earlier today after watching your video. Thank you so much!
You, oh-AmplifyDIY, have suddenly hit the very top of my Christmas Card List!!! This video is Brilliant!!!
My hot water system has been leaking from the pressure valve for weeks and Ive been too scared to attempt to fix - your informative, easy-to-follow instructions were perfect!!! Job done!!!
A wanna-be Aussie handyman is very very grateful - thanks so much!!
Hey, Merry Christmas! So glad to have been helpful. You’ve made my day. :-)
This was a very helpful video! The instructions were thorough and easy to follow as I was replacing a valve I'm pretty sure hasn't been replaced or tested since it was built 14 years ago (I moved in 2 years ago). Thanks!
Great to hear!
First time viewer. Replaced T/P valve in about an hour (not counting a trip to hardware store). Total cost 40 bucks (replacement part, sealant tape and a better pipe wrench). Thank you! I learned a lot and probably saved time and money!
Nice job!
@@AmplifyDIY *Taking the valve off took a lot more effort than expected. It was like loosening a lugnut on a wheel axle instead. Previous person wanted that thing to stay on! I was worried about damaging water heater. But some careful elbow grease did the trick. This was the only thing that slowed me down. But everything worked/happened just as you said!
Thank you. Your video gives me confidence to diy this.
Very helpful video. I rarely watch how to vids all the way thru, but this guy kept me in till the end. Fixed my water heater leak. My wife thi ks I'm a pro!! Thank you.
This has been so helpful and I'm so appreciative of how simple you have made this out to be, as well as the trouble shooting🤝🏿
Thanks, D!
@@AmplifyDIY I've got a question, I have the same Bradford white heater, I don't have a drip I have a full on flow of water through the TNP valve, does this sound like this issue could be more then just replacing a TNP valve? Thank you for your response.
@@Dnyce07 Hi D - yes, it sounds like your T&P valve is not seating correctly. I'd recommend swapping it for a new one, and go from there. Good luck!
@@AmplifyDIY Are you talking about replacing the T&P Valve or the whole tank which is about 8yrs old, thanks for the advice.
@@Dnyce07 Apologies for the confusion: If you have a steady stream of water coming out of the drain pipe attached to your T&P valve, you need a new T&P valve. The heater itself is likely just fine. It sounds like your T&P valve is no longer seating correctly, and is therefore not closing all the way, so water is leaking out of the tank through the valve. Replace the valve only, and see if that solves the issue. Good luck!
Thanks a million guy! the T & P valve that came with Bradford White Water heater was only 2 years old on our 2018 Manufactured Home and was trickling water after I flushed it this afternoon. A local plumber gave us a quote of $150 plus parts but my boy and I spent $30 at home depot for the parts. Really enjoyed learning how to do this myself and gonna swap the drain valve next.
Love it! Nice job!
Watched your video, went to the store, bought a valve, replaced it. And everything worked right the first time. Thanks for the very helpful tutorial!
Awesome!
Thank you. You are who I'm going to watch here forward. Thank you
Thank you very much for this video - very helpful and very clear, step-by-step instructions. Was able to replace the valve in about 30 minutes. Bravo!
Great job, Sam!
Your videos have been so helpful and so easy to comprehend and follow! Thank you!!!
Thanks, John!
This is a really good tutorial qualitatively. It goes step by step showing practically how to make the change. Thank you very much for such a detail video.
Thanks for watching!
I agree with you regarding periodically testing any TPR valves. I do so for the boiler and water heater at our residence twice a year when I test my smoke and CO detectors. I also strongly recommend clients do the same. I have replaced a TPR valve on a boiler which was leaking, but have not yet had the need to do so on a water heater.
Great video, simple replacement instruction. Will check T&P once a year from now on. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the tutorial, took more time to drain the water than anything else. Super easy!
Glad it worked for you!
Excellent video and helpful I’m afraid to do it but following your steps information I think I can do it thank you very much to let us know the right way to do it
Thank you sooooooo much. I just replaced my hot water relief valve. All by myself!!!!! You made it very easy to understand and I thought to myself I can follow the direction to put together the sausage making machine and it is more complicated, I can do this! I will consult your channel in the future when trying new diy things. I am so elated, so many times I've been intimidated by "house repair problems."
Nice job! Glad you were able to get it done!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. Your video gives me the courage to do that DIY.You saved me some money for that, I thank you.
great job my man.... even a person that has never this kind of repair can follow.... lookin forward to more of the same.... casey
Super helpful, thank you. I opened and closed the valve a few times and it stopped leaking! I will still replace the valve (by myself) but I went from thinking I needed to replace the whole water heater, to a simple DIY fix.
Glad it helped!
Absolutely best and most thorough! Thanks!!
I HAVE WATCHED A FEW OF YOUR VIDEOS. I DECIDED TO SAVE YOUR INFO SO I CAN WATCH MORE. YOU DISPELLED A FEW MYTHS AND WE ALL APPRECIATE THAT. I HATE COMMENTING BUT IN THIS CASE I HAD NO CHOICE. YOUR INFO IS VALUABLE AND OF COURSE VERY HELPFUL.
I CAUGHT YOUR VIDEO ON REPLACING THE BALL VALVE AFTER HAVING TROUBLE DRAINING MY TANK. SURE ENOUGH AFTER INSTALLING THE BALL VALVE & DRAINING THE TANK A FEW TIMES I TESTED THE TEMPERATURE PRESSURE VALVE...IT LEAKED. I NEVER WOULD HAVE CHECKED THIS (WITH OUT SEEING YOUR VIDEOS) BUT BY DOING SO I NOTICED THERE IS A STICKER NEXT TO THE VALVE THAT STATES TO DO JUST WHAT YOU SAID, TEST AT LEAST ANNUALLY. I JIGGLED & FORCED IT CLOSED (SEVERAL TIMES) TO BUY ME TIME TILL THE NEXT MORNING. WENT AND GOT ONE AND AM INSTALLING TODAY. I ALWAYS USE IT TO DRAIN THE TANK BUT WHEN IT WAS FULL OF H20 AND I ACTUALLY TESTED IT AFTER REFILLING THE TANK, THAT IS WHEN IT FAILED. JUST OPENING IT DOES NOT TEST IT.
I LEARNED QUITE A BIT OF INFO BY READING THE COMMENTS WITH YOUR RESPONSES AS WELL.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS I APPRECIATE YOUR INFORMATION THAT BOLSTERS OUR EXISTING KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMS US SO WE CAN DO THE JOB CORRECTLY AND NOT ONLY FIX PROBLEMS BUT SEEK TO IDENTIFY PENDING PROBLEMS. FOR EXAMPLE THE T&P VALVE IN MY CASE WAS SPEWING H20. ALSO THE TAPE AND PLUMBERS DOPE IN CONJUNCTION WAS NEWS TO ME ALBEIT THE CORRECT WAY. ASK MOST PEOPLE AND THE WILL NOT KNOW YOU NEED TO WRAP THE TAPE AGAINST THE THREADS. THE LIST GOES ON.
Thanks for all the feedback, Mel! I'm glad you have found some of my videos to be useful. :)
thanks for all your help! as it turned out, i only had to flip the release valve a few times the water stopped and i didn't have to replace anything. if ever i do, thanks to your video, i'll be ready.
thanks again
Glad you found a simple solution!
Thanks for your insight and for sharing it with us.
Thank you for a very clear explanation on how to change this valve.
Excellent tutorial video!!! Best I have seen on T&P replacement.
Thank you!
A real pro instructor. Thank you!
Good info thank you never even heard of this procedure your step by step was great
Excellent video, went the extra step to show mechanically how the valve works.
I learned a lot and used it immediately. I just want to say thank you very much
Thanks for the great instruction video. Thanks to your great video, I just replaced my leaking pressure relief valve successfully. I give all the credit to you. Thanks again for putting out all these well-made videos.
Fantastic job, April! So glad you did the job without any problems. Thanks for letting me know this video helped!
I don't ever comment on UA-cam but I want to say thank you. I'm a first time homeowner and managed to replace my valve today thanks to you. No one taught me any skills so I have to learn myself. Fixed my leak and I was scared I'd have to call a plumber or even worse, replace the water heater.
This made my night. Great job!
Thank you sir! This helped me and I appreciate you!!!
Excellent videos. I was able to change my expansion tank and T & P valve. Thank you.
Awesome! Great work!
Excellent video. First time home owner and first failed water heater. This was the first video I watched and I need not watch anymore. I bet you saved me from a guy coming in and saying me whole system has to be replaced. I’m sold! New subscriber. -Ryan G.

Thank you so much for this video! You explained everything with thorough detail. I was able to replace my TPR valve easily.
Nice job, Yolanda! I'm glad you found the video helpful. That makes my day!
Fantastic job on your video. Had no idea how to replace the T&P valve, but you explained it clearly and logically. Just followed the steps you showed and got my leaky water tank fixed. Thanks
Great work!
Time has sure changed prices... just had to pay $75 for a replacement valve in Canada but glad to say your instructions worked like a charm so saved a plumber call. Thanks
Inflation has been bad since this video was published. I'm glad it helped!
Thank you very much for your COMPLETE video! You covered 100% of safely removing and installation of fhe valve. Outstanding video!
Thank you very much!
Been doing some plumbing for neighbors, post snowpocolypse, in Texas. We are experiencing a plumber shortage. This video was helpful. Liked and subscribed. Thanks!
Best of luck with the clean up!
We had a soft water system installed 7 months ago and the guy said that this was something to look out for, a leaking T&P. Well, a few days ago it must have popped open because I noticed the wall of my bathroom was wet. I looked for the source of water and it was from the long drain downtube. I called the number on the sticker of my water heater and they would love to come out for $99 to tell me what this video just showed me. I never knew about this valve and we've had our water heater since January 2012. Great Video and it will save hundreds of dollars! $!$! Thanks
Nice! I love it when my videos help people. Hit me up with any questions that come up getting your valve fixed. Good luck!
for changing T & P valve. This is a great video. After watching this clip. I changed the valve
myself. Thank you for the wonderful clip
Great job getting it done, Syed!
Very informative video, great work!
Thank you for making this! Bought the same valve for $20 on Amazon and did it ourselves! The only thing is it took a long time to drain the water down…not sure why this was but just in case plan for about an hour start-to-finish. The actual valve replacement took 5 minutes.
I'm glad the job went smoothly for you! Sounds like you may have a clogged drain valve. It may be time to flush your heater and/or upgrade the drain valve:

I've got a dripping TPR valve, and this video was terrifically informative. thanks!
I hope you were able to get your valve drip taken care of. Thanks for watching!
