  • A change of plans due to a tire issue put me In Richwood West Virginia and I am so happy I was there. They had a huge flood in 2016 and I was excited to see what they are doing. The people are wonderful. The shops are very cool. It is worth the stop in this small town. Watch the video and plan on going to Richwood West Virginia. #richwood #westvirginia #smalltown

My hometown. Deitz Spencer was a high end clothing store on one end and a high end shoe store in the other. At one time, in 1966, after I had graduated from RHS, I worked at the shoe store. Thanks for the memories.

Richwood Nicholas County what a great town.
Yes they have had the hard times almost washed away in 1985 and then in 2016.
But they are strong peoples in that town. I have relatives a Great Aunt and A Great Uncle that were there most of there lives.
Perry and Lucy King Price two God Lovin people. My Cousin Paul and his wife Sharon Greathouse were born and died in Richwood.
Paul was one of the best Mountain Dulcimer players who ever lived.
He was also s mechanic at Richwood Chevy.
One of the coldest recorded Temps in West Virginia was recorded at 47 Below Zero.
That was back when they were cutting timber in the mountains by hand.
Keep up the great videos brother the Lord loves what you are doing.

My dad and his family were from Richwood. Grandmother was a Hinkle and they had a place on Hinkle Mountain. She worked for years at Dietz’s, might have been related to the Spencer’s. As a child, I spent many days in Richwood. Dad and I used to go eat at a little diner down and around the corner from Deitz’s. Spent many hot days in the Cherry River sliding down the huge rocks. Good memories. Thanks for posting this!

I remember the Hinkles and Hinkle Mt. Wasn't there a radio station up there? I'm not from Richwood but my best friend in jr and sr high had a grandmother who lived on Walnut St. I spent weeks there in several summers. Love the town still.

I have not read through all the comments at this point, but I just saw that you showed the Deitz-Spencer building. When I was a kid, and long before that, it was a department store...actually a semi-high end department store where you could get all kinds of things. Some of the owners of the store were distant family to me. You could get on-site tailored suits, high end clothing, tailored shoes, and a lot of other things at this store when it was in its prime. It was a very high-end store, and I was sad to see it go several years ago. The Deitz and Spencer families were very prominent families in the community at that time. Most passed away and the stores along with it. You also showed the Vitello store shortly before it and it was the same way. Richwood used to be a very thriving community. I wish that we could bring it back to its once glory. Some old locals have been trying and donating money to the community, even buying old properties and trying to revitalize the town. It has been working to a certain degree because we've seen a slight influx of tourism, but there is still a lot more to be done. I'm a native of Richwood and do everything I can to help the town, but it's been hard because of how "remote" we are relative to present day. Most younger people have had to move away for work, but I know there are a lot of those people that are giving back to the community from afar, as I am. There are also a lot of people that have moved away for their jobs that have came back and invested in the town by opening restaurants, pharmacies, convenience stores, etc.
It is such a quaint and beautiful town that we do not want to lose. If you were to ever visit the town, I guarantee that you would feel at home because of the hospitality that everyone in that small town gives you. If you come once, you will most likely come back and visit!!

Thank so much for all of this. I love hearing about the history and the personal connections. The people I talked to when I visited were wonderful. It's heartwarming to hear that people are giving back to the town. It is a very cool place to visit. I'm looking forward to coming back and visiting this wonderful town again. Thanks again for sharing and giving this great insight on Richwood.

There were some people walking around but I did not see many people on any of my stops that day except at the tire shop. I think many people are in a hurry and miss the beauty right in front of them. Walking around the town I realized that there was even more than I thought. Hopefully more people will stop and look around.
