48 to 72 hrs to mobilize federal forces. FEMA is recovery not rescue. Oh they are not broke. No major events last year's so Congress trimmed their budget, Congress will reallocate replacement funding it's how federal agencies all of them, operate under federal rules.

The loads should increase in value. I would think has more need for trucking in your area picks up. I would expect to see increase in load pay in the next few weeks between the strike and all the the restocking that's going to be neat necessary in that area. I think trucking is going to be looking up going forward, especially with all the trucks that got hit too

I know. I was a police officer in New Jersey when Sandy came through. We were pulled off the road by our chief until the storm was over because he didn't want any of us to become casualties. But once it was over and we had to go back on the road and conduct search and rescue, no one could prepare you for the devastation that had occurred. Total carnage. 😢

The devastated communities need to be adopted by similar-sized communities in the South which have not. Perhaps through churches or other community organizations.
We have people that came from Katrina. They just stayed here and never went back.

If a lithium Ion battery gets shorted out they can heat to the point of burning and then the water actually reacts even more with the lithium itself. Not only cars, but there was an electric bike burnt. But just your power tools or even flashlights or even solar generators can be and issue. Ever notice those warning labels on anything shipped or mailed with rechargeable batteries? PS your phone or tablet has these same batteries.

Those of us who experienced Hugo know all too well the destruction that a hurricane can bring. Water was 20 feet deep in downtown Charleston, Florence and Sumter had no power for over a week and I lost everything. Hopefully congress will pass a bill to help those people affected by this storm. FEMA is at locations in North Carolina that they can get to. My friend received 750.00 for immediate personal needs. But the devastation caused by this hurricane and the needs of people is beyond the scope of what FEMA can do. Congress needs to act swiftly!

I’m part of an Estes facebook group and that terminal in SC lost everything but a few trucks that were out running at the time. Trailers darted in trees, trucks knocked over, just total devastation. To top it off, one of the posts mentioned them at there was a person (non employee) that was found within the debris at that terminal. Sad, sad times.

Imagen the people who live in the Carribbean that deal with this threat yearly and when it hits, it hits, more than once and with even more devastation, simply look at how hurricane 🌀 beryl destroyed the island of Curacu, these storms are simply coming more stronger than before, I've lived through several cat5 hurricane like the famous mitch in 1998, i feel bad for y'all as it's not something you all are usted to, plus houses there ain't like in the Carribbean where houses are out of pure concrete. No wood!! My roof is of concrete so it withstands hurricanes and is set on 6ft high foundation to help with flooding, food rations for 5 days or more. Wish you all the best, try to be more prepared for these storms DON'T EVER UNDERESTIMATE their power and FURIOUSITY!!

What was flowing was a bit of water carrying a lot of debris driven by gravity. I expect the death toll to be very high when all is calculated. Also unless someone is reported missing they are not on the list. There was no evacuation so no one was able to move to safer places.
This occurred in British Columbia 2 years ago, mud slides occur all the time in the Rocky Mountains and Cascades. If no one was hurt or a road blocked in Colorado or anywhere else in the West, it was not news and few know of it!
After watching a Vlog from Tennessee they were scooping up the rocks and muck and dumping it all back in the rivers, PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT unless you want this to REPEAT! Rivers and all floodplains are there because this has occurred before and will occur again; BUILD ELSEWARE!!!! Flood plains should only house farm fields, No homes, no Schools nor any Factories!
Even up here in the North East we have had washouts, on July 4th, 2023; we lost 90 water crossings on one road where poorly calculated culverts over half were installed the year before (Engineers use special math and poorly planned charts) as mother nature carved 100 foot wide ravines but engineers put a 4 to 8 foot culvert and call it done but it washes out 7 times in 10 years! Thank fully Government listened and installed 11 concrete girder bridges and over 80 multi span Bailey Bridges (50 double wide).
Didn't this occur (Massive rain with landslides and flooding) in WV and VT last year? North Carolina, Tennessee, as well as SC, GA, and FL are in our thoughts.
I do not believe the mine plans had anything to do with this occurring BUT it may have very much to with the delayed & limited response. Shame on Washington!
I think I remember a stir about Nancy Pelosi talking up about her investments in Piedmont Mining as North Carolina's future. If farmers and land owners get insolvent, mines become cheaper to initialize so profits grow!!

Oh yes I took a fema load of generator and water to union SC the two lane road to there from I26 the electrical lines were still down and no electricity until downtown Union sc in parts of it this was still a week later.and im at it again the company I work for asked me to do the emergency loads I did not hesitate.by the way it is fema at state level not fed . unreal theee .peace be with everyone and hang in there some people do care

Mountain Tsunami in NC and Tennessee
As heartbreaking is all of this is. It isn't a conspiracy to obtain people's land. This plain and simple a failure to fully understand physics and topography. The ground is saturated from days of rain before the storm arrives. These cities, towns and communities aren't built on the hill sides at higher elevations. They are primarily built in the valleys and that includes the roads. You get 20 inches of rain in the mountains. That means the valleys not only get their 20 inches of water, but they get the 20 inches of water running off the mountains. The ground is already saturated and there is only one place for that water to flow to. The lowest point is the valleys. I have to question why the computer models can calculate how high a storm surge will be, with or without high tide. But, they can't provide a guesstimate as to how much water will flow through the valley under ground saturated conditions.
