There is a muffler repair kit. Basically saw out the flange on the resonator side and connect it what left with repair kit. AtLeast it's what Chrisfixit does in his repair video
I have the same break on my Honda 2012. Do you have to replace the whole muffler if the muffler is still good and the pipe leading from the muffler has plenty of thickness to it? Also the pipe that is suppose to stick out that was rusted off that looks concerning. Is it part of the catalytic converter? Is the insert that you created to give the pipe thickness and a seal for the gasket?

thats the exact repair i need to get done for the exact damage. I was wondering how it broke off...

Go to parts store and buy flange repair kit instead of muffler
