it's not the adapter I had the same problem using the wired method soldering the wires vvdi prog works fine but multi prog couldn't read it multi prog isn't ready yet there also no way of reading eeprom's in circuit like vvdi prog????
Is your DB version v49 or 4.9 as i'm only on V20 ?? Also My Multiprog seems to have an issue with the MCU Adapter, it will not even identify CAS3+ chip, I have opened up the adapter and it seems to be wired incorrecty, the CLOCK cable GND is not even connected to GND. if I use the Multifunction adapter I can sometimes get it to read using the old 25 pin MCU reflash cable.
even when I use my Benz EIS adapters, some times I have to attempt it 2-3 times before it actually cracks. also, try using the prog db cable and see if it makes a difference.

It’s about principle. when a company releases a product dishonest ones tend to remove certain features to get the user to buy more tools/adapters in this situation I had done this job before with the same tool with the same adapter and it worked perfectly before they change the cracking algorithm now I’m being told that I have to purchase version 1.3 in order to make it work. version 1.2 worked prior to all the algorithmic changes.
Multiprog fucked my day today..while writing on new Holland ECU tractor...at 18% stucked then timed out and gave me connection failed... and everything gone..
For me VVDI its expensive crap.How many times vvdi make me problems ,wich i than solve with autel. VVdi now sell 13 pieces vag cluster adapter, and for renesas rh850 they not even have develop software for id49-5C key chip. On the end even Keydiy keys work much beter as VVDI. Regards Friend

I happened to read the data from CAS 4+ successfully with my KTP and this very adapter. Didn't have any problems tbh

CGDI is great and have used it for over a year. But sometimes I just don't feel like soldering up a board so I am trying out the VVDI adapters now.

Just tried it and it still fails to read. Both Versions of the Adapter. V1.2 & V1.3 still no good on the Multi Prog
