If you dont like it, get rid of it!! Someone else will enjoy it and you can make space for something that will be for you. I wouldnt feel pressured to revisit books you havent liked, ive done that many times in the last few years and i have never loved a book that i hated or disliked the first time i read it
This is very true!! It might be a fun video, but would it be worth it in the end, if I don't change my mind??
@@LydLovesNot really 🙈 It's completely okay to not like a popular book and in the time you spend reading books you didn't enjoy you could find so many more books you actually love :3
You being astonished at your ratings is me when I go back and review my ratings and am shocked with how generous I was haha
Literally!! What was I thinking hahaha
I would have gotten rid of all those 3 stars also…😂 I’m also just really cut throat when I get rid of books. Gotta be 4 or 5 stars to stick around. I just know I’ll never reread a 3 star unless it’s part of a series I REALLY loved.
Haha I know what you mean but 3 stars I still enjoy the book in some way, and because I make videos I like keeping the physical copies!
@@LydLoves You don't need to keep a book that you might refer to later- you can just put a picture of it up on the screen! Do yourself a favor and make more room for books that you truly love.
In the politest way possible, why keep books you didn’t enjoy? I can’t imagine a world in which you would want to reread a book you didn’t like! If you had to look up your rating, I’d be unhauling it because obviously it hasn’t stuck with you as a favourite. /gen
For me, 3 stars I still liked the book! And would recommend it in some cases / to some people. As for forgetting plots, I did get rid of those ones in the end. But because I make videos I like to keep copies of books I’d recommend, even if they’re not my personal favourites
If lots of people like a book (ie. The Night Circus) but you didn't, that's ok! You don't have to give it another try, you probably won't like it the second time either 😆
I like the idea of re-reading some popular books you didn't love first time around. Sometimes you just need to read a book at the right time for it to hit 😊 also I liked the Night Circus 😂📚🎪
I'm so torn on this video idea!! It might be painful, but also quite fun??
You can get rid. Brutal unhaul lol. I, myself only keep books that rate 4 or higher. Just think of the pretty books you can put in the space where you currently have a book that doesn't bring you happiness. Your Atlas Six will likely sell too for book funds lol.
So glad the algorithm brought me here, it's the motivation I needed to work through my own shelves. Also your library room is so beautiful!! 🖤
I'm so glad! Thank you for watching!
I just could not get into the night circus either - have kept in case I enjoy it more in the winter … I want to love it but just didn’t
I’m so glad you agree! Maybe it wasn’t just me then!
you said that you gonna be brutal, but i see that you are really struggling to get rid of the books you didn't love 😊 maybe it would be a challenge for you and your future video to get rid of also 3 star ratings. then you would have just books you actually love. because now I never heard that those of your 3 star rating books spark you joy 😊❤
That is true, but for my three stars I do like them (not love) and like to recommend them in some cases in videos! So I like to keep the physical copies. But maybe I could have been a little harsher haha
Such a great unhaul! I feel like I know some of these even though I’ve only seen your reviews of them.
I am so happy I found someone who did not like the night circus. everyone loves it and I feel so alone 😅
This makes me feel so validated too!
You’ve inspired me to clear out my books! ❤
Yay 💖
Only because someone else loves a book you did not love does not mean you need to like it, I did not love jade city. You are allowed your own opinions. I have never understood keeping books because others loved them, or because it's a pretty book. If they are not being read then what is the point of having them, books should be read that is the point. Just my opinion so please don't c9me after me 😂😂
I just wanted to tell you your content always brings a smile on my face. Thank you for posting❤
Thank you so much!! You are so kind 🥰
I loved the night circus! Read it at 16 and then reread it at 22ish- way better the second time around. It’s just so pretty and whimsical
Your opinion on books and my opinion on books is like this 🤞
We have the best taste!!
a second chance video sounds intriguing to me as a mood reader because i could be really into the plot of a book but if i'm not in the mood to read i can't make myself finish it
This is my first video of yours. You are so pretty and your personality is so cute! I subscribed right away!
Thank you so much!! You’re so sweet!
I’m in a discord where we buddy read jade city and most of us didn’t like it 😅 I hated it to the point I read the summaries of the next two and was like, I have made the right decision
That actually makes me feel much better!!
The Night Circus is my favorite book. It’s not a complicated story, so probably not for you.
It’s been years since I read the night circus. I was a teenager and I’m in my thirties now. I almost want to reread it as I’m intrigued as to whether it’d still hold up. Also yes! Literally loved about 99% of small pleasures but the ending just ruined the whole book. Also very random but I love the colour of your downstairs walls, do you remember the shade?
I have tried to read The night circus three times, never made it past 100 pages. It gave me absolutely nothing. So i finally got rid of it.
That's a relief, I feel people are soo obsessed with it! And I just didn't get it
i also didn’t like the night circus as much as i expected! though it had so much potential to be exactly my cup of tea, the characters played a big part in ruining it for me… they felt flat and like not fully fleshed out? idk, i guess i’m a big character driven story person
That’s how I remember feeling about it too!
Hi, I'm enjoying your videos. I first saw your "around the world" series... and I have to say I was a bit surprised here, by how ecclectic your shelves are, with more current books than I would have thought (I pictured you as reading more classics).
Anyway, if you do a tour, could you mention what the images/paintings are, please? I'm intrigued by the one above the map (with the black & white tiles...): maybe it's a famous painting? Also, this green paint is really nice.
Thank you so much! And yes, I will be sure to do a full tour (I need to look up where I got some of them because it's been years!)
I also didn't like Night Circus and Babel. actually I would like to hear your opinion on Babel. I think topic of this book was promising, but when I read it, there are just too many aspects in one book, it felt forced and manipulative
I really agree, I felt like it would have been better as an essay
A fellow lessons in chemistry hater, yayyy
Hahaha yess, hate that book!
I will keep books for their beautiful covers if I didn’t like them as long as the book didn’t personally offend me in someway.
You get me!! Books are art
Hi, I enjoyed watching with my best friend. Do you donate some of the unwanted books and sell some online?
Hi! Yes, I’m selling them online, the link is in the description!
you have a weak will lol...if you gave a book 2 stars, why on earth would a pretty cover make you hesitate? it's not like you're pulling that book down to gaze at the cover..
Ok Amanda!! I actually do often gaze lovingly at my books
on your physical tbr shelve you have a book with a beautiful cover of what looks to be two knights, whats the title of it?
Are the knights on the cover or on the spine? On the cover, the only one with knightrs on I can see if Not For the Faint of Heart by Lex Croucher! If you meant the spine, it might be Elektra by Jennifer Saint which has a person on the spine?
@@LydLoves at 3:11 but it may also be a piece of art? right on top of sorcery and small magics
@@ScooppyLise Oh yes! It's a card someone got for me, and I loved it so much I kept it! It says 'Knights on the Town" haha
Why keep any you've read? I pass on to somebody else to enjoy
I collect books
You’re kinder than I am, 3 stars aren’t welcome on my shelves
I totally get this, but because I make videos I do hold on to them because I recommend some of the three star books!
I really really did NOT like The Night Circus!! I personally think youre better off reading a new book you might love!
I am a certified HATER of The Night Circus, so I'm team toss it! 😂life is short so I think making room for books you actually enjoy are worth it :)
I think I will toss it next unhaul, I feel so validated that others didn’t like it hahaha
This is the first video of yours I’ve seen and oh my gosh I have to subscribe immediately because I have NEVER found someone on Booktube with book taste so similar to my own! I’m about to use your bookshelves as inspiration for my next reads because wow, banger after banger up there
Welcome!! That makes me so happy!
The Night Circus is literally my favourite book!! I read it last year and have not stopped thinking about it
I would quit worrying so much what other's book opinions are. Even if you are in the minority, your opinions are valid. Normally your gut reaction is the right one. Don't pressure yourself to love a book. If it's not happening, it's not happening, and that's totally okay! Instead of forcing yourself to reread something you probably won't like, move on to something that you'll love! (This is coming from a librarian, by the way :) )
First time here seeing a video in your channel.
Love soo much to find a female booktuber who reads fantasy too, like meee. Usually all big booktubers are almost 100% of the time are romance, romantasy, sports romance, dark romance, any thing related to romance and it isn't my genre 🥲I always choose my TBR based on male booktubers because they always talk about fantasy/sci-fi.
I don't know what it's your favourite genre or what you like the most, but I saw a amizing mix on that shelf 😍and that green of the walls! My walls always were and are white, so it's too nice to see diferents colors. I don't know if they are for me, I know myself and I distract with everything, it will be impossible to work or study with that much of colors around me 🤣🤣
Can also ask you where are you from? I hear some British sometimes, but also sound like a neutral/well articulated American English. I'm learning English and my brain is soo confuse now 🙈
Have a nice day!!! What a lovely collection!!!
She’s English :) also a lover of epic fantasy without romance subplot ❤
Thank you so much for your lovely comment!! So glad you are here, I love reading in all genres, especially fantasy! And yes I am English🥰💚
I feel like this is so good but myBe Change it too three stars and below idk how U rate ure books but for me 3 is like meh then anything above is loved if
3 stars for me I still liked it! I know we all have different ratings though!
Unsettled ground was well written but my goodness so bleak! I have given away my copy
Bleak is exactly the word!! Too much for me
Ahh I just love looking at everyone's bookshelves! We have such similar taste of faves and yet so many deviations like Babel and Jade city lol
I feel like I’m listening to myself talk about books lol! A Study in Drowning was boring, The Night Circus I gave 2 stars to, and I DNFed Jade City! Don’t feel bad about those books. I may go back and try to finish Jade City.
We have the same taste in books!!💚
I would recommend for next time (as someone who unhauls stuff a lot) to start with the section of books not that you're most nervous about, but the books you know you will unhaul the most of. Say for instance, if your classics section has a lot of books you rated low or didn't enjoy even if it was 3 stars, you should start with that section. As you go through the sections from easiest to hardest it'll be easier to unhaul things cause you have a better sense of the kind of books you want to keep.
sometimes i feel glad that circumstances make it unable for me to own physical books bc this is HARD
This!! Because i have only been buying books the last few years, I’m so attached to them haha
@@LydLoves lol i commend u tbh.. plus you are a booktuber so ofc getting rid of books is harder than a normal reader, i think ppl saying you r weak willed are forgetting that!! still 45 is GREAT 🫶🏻🫶🏻
@@lo_efilled thank you 😭 some people are being so harsh! I have such emotional connections to my books haha 💖
Totally understand you on young adult. In my case I had to recently realize that while I'm open to reading young adult as an adult and it's quite fun at times, most of them are never really impactful in such a way that I want to keep or read them again (with few exceptions). Also paperback love! 🙌
I feel the exact same way!
I hated the night circus
I’m so glad it wasn’t just me 😅
Loved this. So in depth and cozy.
Yay, thank you so much!
I really didn’t like the night circus either .
I didn't like Jade City either! So you are not alone 😅 I will not be reading the rest of the series
maybe this is my sign to just get rid of it!
Yes, do a video of rereading books you didn’t like before but others love! I have the same feelings towards night circus and jade city. I didn’t like them but kind of want to reread both because I feel like I missed the point of the book or whatever 😅
Agreed, sometimes a reread is needed!
I did not know that light academia was a thing but now that you mentioned it, I realiser that several of the books I really enjoy probably classify as light academia. I'm definitely not a dark academia reader... Would be really interested in a comparison video if you do one :)
I definitely will!!
For the Arc's your getting rid of, I would recommend putting them in a free little library if you have one where you live :)
I will try and find one! Thank you!
I would’ve kept Lessons In Chemistry for the dust jacket. It’s so pretty. I think I’m going to buy it just for that. 🙈
Honestly that’s why I kept it so long!! It’s so gorgeous
❤📚❤️ I'd love to hear your opinion of The Night Circus after a reread.
I disliked Lessons in Chemistry as well.
Great unhaul. Room for new reads!
Oh good!! I’m really warming up to the idea of doing a rereading vlog of some books, I think it’ll be fun!
@@LydLoves Yay!!
@@LydLovesplease do. If you can reread Babel as well.
Have you read Yellowface?
I enjoyed your vlog on Restless Dolly Maunder. 😅😅😅 I think that’s why I asked if you were doing Booker vlogs. Those vlogs were really everything.
Oh thank you so much! I did enjoy doing them but it stressed me out haha, so I haven’t so far for the booker prize, but maybe I should now the shortlist has been announced!
@@LydLoves if you can manage. It’ll be so fun to watch.
