You can quietly repeat a mantra (a word or sound). Or you can just focus on your breathing for instance. But one of the primary “goals” of meditation is to quiet the mind from thoughts. Such that (and this is what will happen in the early stage of practice) is that thoughts, worry etc will return. And when they do, just acknowledge that and return to your mantra or focusing on your breath again. Be gentle on yourself. Don’t get annoyed that thoughts keep coming. That’s natural 👌 When people start meditating for the first time also what happens is that all sorts of feelings come up. Frequently uncomfortable emotions, and that people, even when not meditating, return to thoughts as a way of distracting from the feelings they don’t want to feel. When this happens, when meditating or not, allow yourself to feel the emotions coming up and let them go or pass through you. This is the process of emotional healing 🙏
