Nobody probably cares except me, but before the pandemic I went on a work trip to Rwanda. It was a massive deal because I'd spent years trying to get a decent job and education. All that paid off and I was hyped to on the balcony of this African hotel, overlooking Kigali with this beautiful song playing. I met some good friends and a gorgeous woman during that trip. I felt like I'd finally made it. Listening to it now, years later moves me to tears because the sense of nostalgia is so strong. I'm back on that balcony again with my aspirations finally coming true, and I can visualise it clearly. That's the power of music. The sun is beating down, I'm young and enthusiastic and my family are saying how proud they are of me. Everyone's been through their own shit since then. For me it was the loss of that job and all of the friends who I trusted at that time. But this music is forever tied to that moment, and it acts like a time capsule for me. Anyway, I just wanted to record my feelings hearing this song again.
I care, thank you for sharing this! So crazy how we don't even know each other but I can kinda close my eyes while listening to this song and put myself in that moment that you described. Sounds like a beautiful memory, and I can only hope to make memories as lovely as yours. I'm terribly sorry to hear about the loss of your friends and your job, do you mind me asking why that happened? Nonetheless, it's crazy how listening to music can evoke such a strong sense of nostalgia. Your story made me nostalgic and I wasn't even there
I associate this song, an entire album really, with immense nostalgia. This album released when I was living in West Palm Beach, Florida. I was 19, about a 10min drive from the beachfront, and made more money than I needed just working at a pizza place. But during that time, I met so many amazing people. I felt surrounded by intelligent, beautiful, happy people who passed the time living in the moment. I remember one night, we all took a little bit of LSD and MDMA and we’re just sitting on the beach drawing in the sand with glow sticks while some of the girls play with various different rave toys, like those glow gloves or LED hula hoops. Someone played this whole album on a little Bluetooth speaker and for about 45mins I felt like my whole world was just where it was supposed to be. Those people, that moment in time, on that beach, with Flying Lotus stealthily showing us his Captain Murphy side without us even knowing… Some moments really engrave themselves in your being, and that moment was one of them for me.

Melt away the pain from the summer

Fun when you live with no regrets, but she sitting by the floor to stretch
You asked now you got a little girl, question is, is that her name, "bitch"?
Fish, fish, fish
[Verse 2: Captain Murphy]
I hate it when the day escapes
This planet of the bathing apes
Never thought I’d see the great face
They say we mirror what the game makes
Find me lost in my conscious mind
Strange are the kind of things that you’ll find
Look behind the signpost
And see my mind's toast hard to boast
Rather brag about dick sizing
