Fabulous way to present for galleries, art shops, and summer markets which I'm preparing for. I remembered this technique after spending a bundle on shrink wrapping some paintings for a pop-up Xmas market, last December. Lesson in economy of resources using a mat and crystal sleeve. Now I'll look into the info sticker on the back and making sure I add the name, my signature, and date on the actual painting AND the back piece. Thanks very much, Bob, for all your wonderful info for success with my art. :)
Wow! Thank you. So much for your fabulous tutorial. I have a confession. I buy similar mounts 7×5 8×6 A4 I draw round them and cut the mount diaphragm out on mount board. Job done. Still learning to do the beveled edge. but all the same I enjoy doing it. thank you again for your lovely work you do.
Thank you very much for this very very practical information! I have a practice to watch all your videos and study them meticulously by repeatedly watching them and taking notes. every bit is beneficial. Dr Vishnu S.
Bob we love all your lessons most of all the three Artchanels we really like. Bob you are so talented in many ways. As an artist and as a teacher as well.❣️ Many greetings of switzerrland
Couple of things if may: 1-never mount on the window mat, just on the mat back. 2- you need to hinge the window mat and mat back and not to leave it loose like you did even if you are slipping them in the preservative plastic bag, they still can move on top of each other and SCUFF your art work. extra couple of minutes where you hinge the mat window to the mat back and support the two with archival acid free double sided taped you are good to go.
I’m determined to learn how to measure and complete. My watercolors/mix medias turned out to be 6x8’s for the paper I broke down from larger sheets measuring and fractions really stupefy me 🤦🏻♀️ I am not sure why my brain doesn’t understand. But I am determined.
Thanks - I hear you! First of all, decide on what you want the overall size to be for your presentation mat. Make sure the size you select will fit a standard-sized frame. That part is very important. THEN - decide how big you want the opening of the mat to be. You want your watercolor paper to be SLIGHTLY larger than the opening. I initially chose the 6.5x9.5 inches for my paper because I could get quite a few paintings out of a full sheet of watercolor paper. Hope this helps!
@@RobertBurridge Thanks, sorting out to do a show, gosh admin and packaging are such headaches especially in smaller countries. Anyway thank and take care
Bob can I ask? Did you create an LLC before starting to sell and create business and cards? Im just learning and trying to just make things but I’ve been learning how to preserve and display things recently.
Great info! Could you post a simple copyright statement here. I’ve just used standard copyright (name/date). Thank you for sharing all your tips and for the inspiration to keep painting. X
This is the statement he puts on the back of his work: "This is an original painting created with professional conservation quality art materials, protected under the copyright laws and may only be reproduced with permission in writing from the artist." Then he adds the copyright symbol and his name and contact information. (Just know that your work is automatically copyrighted the moment you create it.)
This is wonderful! I'm so glad I found this video. Question -- why don't you tape together both front and back matboards? That's something I've been considering but not sure what to do. Thanks!
Once framed, the two matboards plus painting will be thick enough to be held in place by the frame, so taping them isn't necessary. It also makes it easier to remove the painting if one chooses.
Such an informative video - thanks for sharing! One question: What statement would you use on the back of a print matboard, since it's not the original?
Loved this but just wondering . . . how can I do the same thing with pastel paintings? The pastel dust would adhere to the clear plastic bag like crazy. Any suggestions?
So if someone buys it and takes it out of the plastic it all falls apart? I make mine more permanent so people couldn't take it apart or just have it fall apart like these.
The artwork does not fall apart - there is a hinge of acidfree tape on the back of the mat - makes it easier for the framer to work with it. Thank you for your comment.
Thanks for your message. I use a "piano hinge" with acid-free framers tape to attach the top of the painting to the top mat. The bottom board is not attached. I slip the board and mat into a Crystal Clear bag. Hope this helps.
His voice has that warmth like he genuinely cares 🤗
I love this man....he has changed my whole style of painting WHO IS LIKE HIM? Nobody
I totally agree!!!
Me, too. And I pass him on to other artists and they all agree. Hooked.
How thick is the mat?

Verry easy and lovely and smooth work with an artistic sense thank you so much for sharing this littel treasure hint
Great video! Thanks! Where did you get your copyright stickers made?
I think we either ordered them from a place like Staples - or googled "stickers" and went from there.
Does ‘piano hinge’ also apply to photograph or photography print? 🎉
❤amazing
Thank you!

Awesome
how do you stick them on the wall do you just use double sided tape on the four corners in the back?
Yes! It is just temporary - I look at my work to get a sense of it PLUS to determine if I think it is done!

what are the Qr code to ? or where do it refers you to? Thank you for your great advices on so many thing!
never mind, you said so . :-) my bad
This is great, thank you! I have a question: Will galleries generally accept paintings presented like this, or will some absolutely require a frame?
I cannot speak for all galleries, but the ones that I have been in have not had any problens.

Hi can i please ask, would the client still be able to frame them if he wanted?
What pound paper do you use?
Bob, what is the name of that plastic? TIA
Just a simple question, anyone knows how he assembled both mats? I can’t see if there’s tape or s9mething like that

Would be nice if you told us where and how to get the bar code stickers on the back and what info was used to create them. Sigh.
We generated the QR codes from an app - then sent them to a company that made stickers. Easy-peasy!
Do a search in your app store for QR code maker. There are also QR code reader apps.
Many thanks, Bob. Love your videos and have learned so much this past year. Thanks for sharing and for the surprise reply.
Video Reviews google is your friend
Why would you have a QR code on a painting?
So people can navigate quickly to your website / online shop
