JAPANESE KOI CARP FISHES
Do we need aquarium heather for Japanese Koi Carp and Gold Fish in Kerala? From my experience, if we are in a tropical place like Kerala we don’t need an aquarium heater for Japanese koi fish and Goldfish. Japanese koi fish are lot more hardy fish with a wide range of temperature tolerance compared to our tropical fish like guppies. Japanese koi can live in extremely cold weather like below freezing temperature in a pond to almost 34 degrees celsius.
For understanding this we need to know the fundamental of tropical fish keeping and outdoor pond fish keeping. The aquarium hobby is classified into indoor and outdoor fish keeping. When it comes to indoor fish they are normally kept in a glass tank keeping that in mind developments are more focused on the side view of the fish to appreciate the maximum beauty of the fish.
At the same time, outdoor fish are developed mainly as pond fish and pond fish are developed with a view to appreciate the beauty of the fish if we are looking at the fish from the top view.. On top of that since the pond fish are created mainly to keep the fish in pond or outdoor so they are normally hardy fish that can tolerate most of the temperature changes.
Normally the global trend in fish keeping is indoor fish keeping is mainly on tropical fish. If we look at the map we can see the tropical regions almost have a similarity they all share the same temperature range that is 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. So if you are in a tropical region we mostly don’t need a heater for keeping tropical fish, at the same time if we try to keep the tropical fish outside of the tropical weather most probably those fish won’t survive the temperature of those places and will start to die easily. Since we are in a tropical region we can easily keep our fish outside easily. Then also we can notice that our most common tropical fish Guppy will die mostly when the temperature is below 23 degrees during the tropical winter season. In order to avoid this situation we normally recommend aquarium heaters for our tropical fish that are outdoor during the winter season.
