Yes! Very well spoken. There is a shadow truth to ADHD I don’t hear anyone talk about. It is a painful disorder. It is filled with despair and suffering, intense emotions that can’t be regulated, processed, or relieved. Even Russell glances over the emotional regulation impairment brought in with ADHD. It should not be understated. It is very painful, it does lead to suicide. It does kill. It is a horrible life to have and a terrible way to go. So... much... suffering. the first 3 pages of his book is wonderful! When i read them about 19 years ago, for the 1st time in my life, I felt like I had a friend - someone who really understood me FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE!!! - because there was a lengthy ADHD assessment test, and I scored 100% POSITIVE for FULL-BLOWN ADHD. But I couldn't read the book BECAUSE I HAD ADHD! (Why didn't Mr Barkley figure out that PEOPLE with ADHD COULDN'T READ HIS BOOK - BECAUSE they had ADHD????) And there WAS NO audio version. So I wrote him and told him he needed to create one and why. i guess others did too, because about 10 years later, he got off his arse and did it. But the price was (and is) so high that anyone on a meager fixed income can't afford to buy it. So I never did. My dad used to call people like this, 'Educated Idiots', because they'd gone to school, gotten degrees, learned everything the textbooks told them, but had NO common sense! Thank you for writing your book - AND for listening, Mr Barkley. I really enjoyed the 1st 3 pages! The local library system doesn't have your audiobook. When I get rich enough, I may listen to it, unless life gets in the way or I croak first.
Your comment makes no sense. I have ADHD, and I could not put the book down. I want to know EVERY SINGLE THING about this disorder. I suspect your problem is not ADHD.
The government does, the problem is that employers because of at-will employment usually use disability declarations as guides to which employees to exercise at-will termination on.
Barkley's vested interest in the success of ADHD isn't his brother's death in a car crash. It is the career of Russell A Barkley. Barkley talks about ADHD being scientific. “Does your child have difficulty awaiting his turn seldom, often, or never? Does he interrupt or intrude on others seldom, often, or never?” The answers are then tallied up and a diagnosis is made. A computer or layperson could just as easily perform the evaluation. The child himself is observed only minimally by the doctor; rarely is the context of his behavior-family life, school, friendships-considered. The tidy list of DSM symptoms may look objective, and they may satisfy the discipline’s need to look “scientific,” but they are heavily subject to the eye of the beholder. Richard Fee was diagnosed as ADHD as was John Edwards. Where are they now?
yeah there is the belief system thing - on the emotional /psychological / conscious / unconscious person which parents most def do have an impact on. there is providing an environment and relationships, sense of the world, and self which all impact on choices and the experience of life that can either allow or inhibit the maturation and even the genetic expression of traits. clearly there are so many types / expressions of ADHD and the like, that these techniques and this advice is very expensive and confusing hot air. be patient with your kids. help them find what they love. they shouldn't be jammed into some commercially viable persona of success with checklists and rewards and careful monitoring by everyone they are supposed to trust. be patient and respectful. don't own them and enslave them.

And pay for me an holiday
Take me away on a cruise
and make it okay
I swear this drug will make kids behave
Teachers want control
Kids can wait (in queues)
I will say how great this drug is
I made me have this career
I brought me fortune and fame
It made me change my game
You say I have no morals or guilt

Put dollars in my hand and I'll show you
Pay for my house car
I've accepted the moves from Big Pharma
I've accepted the moves from Big Pharma

You need Ritalin or SSRI's to control you
Pharma looked into my eyes and said I own you

I've accepted the moves from Pharma
I've accepted the moves from Pharma
Baby it's hard when you need the money
You need it to pay your house off
To most people taking pharma money doesn't feel right,
but when you are me you don't give a shite
I make you believe for a brighter future
Ritalin and Adderall give you the key
Take those drugs and for that future we can ride it
Wherever you want to be those drugs will make you achieve it
And you are still learning, I'm shifting gear
I'll take it from here oh yeah yeah and it goes like this
Put money in my hand and I'll know you
Pay for that cruise
I've accepted the moves from Pharma
I've accepted the moves from Pharma
I need this drugs to control you
Look into my eyes and Pharma owns you
I've accepted the moves from Pharma
I've accepted the moves from Pharma
You want to know how to make me smile
Put that Pharma Check in my hand
Take control, own me as Pharma does
But if I share my secret you're gonna have to keep it
Nobody else can see this
I will keep some pharma money secret
So watch and learn I won't show you twice
Head to toe, ooh baby, rub me right
Pharma pay for that secret visit to the parlor
But if I share my secret you're gonna have to keep it
Nobody else can see this
And it goes like this
Put that pharma check in your hand and they'll own you
Give you that holiday and I'll show you all the moves like pharma
