Legend i fell asleep watching your Numidia campaign. The problem was that when i woke up, the video was still going and you still hadnt retaken memphis
+SpikyKitten I hadn't heard of it before, it's added to the list. If you haven't read Ostrogorsky's history and Sicilian Vespers by Runciman both are definitely the best writings on the empire.
I literally started to watch your old western Roman Empire campaign a week ago because I was lacking some good old RTW content and here you are releasing an eastern Roman campaign in 2017, you absolute madman! I love it.
"This would have been a rare sight, seeing a Roman Emperor in combat like this". I find it fitting that the Eastern Roman Emperor in this game's real life counterpart died in a battle and Legend points out him fighting and that he'd be fine with him dying in battle.
The empire was split multiple times and Valens was appointed co-emperor by his brother Valentinian. Valens was emperor from 364 up to 378, at which point he was killed in a battle against the Goths.
MrDanno2 I do that quite a bit too, even when playing games that aren't Total War. I also listen when going to sleep sometimes. I like the background noise.
I've never been your biggest fan, just liking and seeing your content from time to time, but I have to say that I really respected your speech about your channel and how you manage it. I love that kind of clarity, knowing well what you want and how you manage it. Not just became a money making machine that lick viewers ass. Really really respected it! You probably are not going to see a comment on a video from years ago, but I just had to say it! Ggs dude.
Hahah! I'm one of the guilty ones watching your videos to go to sleep. It's the perfect length and it's always so relaxing in a weird way. Anyways looking forward to this series!
I like playing them for the alt-history value of a Zoroastrian holy land. But the issue for me is that you basically just fight ERE the whole game, there’s not much variety. No wondering when some horde’s going to show up or if your neighbor is coveting your unsecured borders. Just conquering everything from Egypt through Anatolia.
I like the new style where you play smart/efficient, like building the right stuff, recruiting the optimal units, ect. But not to the extent of your blitz campaigns, where everything is done with such high tolerances.
The nostalgia from watching this gameplay is intense. I also remember the frustrations of squalor and having to force settlements to revolt so you could retake it and exterminate the dissidents.
hi thank you for being here i actually useing your videos for too long time for my sleeping problems but believe or not i love your work here thank you so much
I'm always watching your videos while I play and I always learn something new especially from the older titles... I started on rome 2 so it was just auto resolve campaigns. Lately I've been playing rome 1 on mobile at work so I've been rewatching all your old videos to learn tactics/cheese from the cheese God 😂😂
Love coming back to these videos and watching your process Legend. Remember how bad I was at some of these campaigns then watching a video of yours and being like shit thats what I need to do and improving drastically. Like it or not/care or not your an excellent teacher with or without trying to be.
I just want to say that I'm so fucking glad you chose to focus on playthroughs that you personally enjoy. I used to love your old stuff because you were awesome at the game and you were having fun fucking murdering everything on the map. I turned off when you started doing warhammer videos. It's not that I hate that game or that you weren't good it was just obvious you weren't enjoying it. I want to see you having fun and then I can relax and enjoy the gameplay. The worst thing to see is someone trying to force in fun to games that aren't exciting them.
In an Empire building situation Paganism vs Christianity comes down to decentralisation vs centralisation. Once Rome switched from a republic to a dictatorship Paganism became a liability.
Sir, it matters to me that you win heroic victories! always love watching u doing these vids and acheiving victory, always inspiring and instructive! Keep up the good work!
In my current campaign everything got turned on its head. All the hoards attacked me instead. I built fortifications on the bridges across the Danube and finally wiped out the Hun hoard. The Vandals haven't been really doing shit except occasionally fighting the Goths, and the Western Roman Empire is incredibly strong. Between fighting stacks of Huns, the WRE betrayed me early on and has been sending stacks my way too. I can't wait until I get my expedition force built up so I can hammer the WRE right up their fucking asses with some heavy metal cavalry. Edit: Oh, the Sassanids haven't been a problem for quite some time. I pretty much wiped them out early on because I thought they'd be my biggest threat besides the Huns.
I for one watch mostly for the apparently crazy strategies and tactics, which seem to always work. And for the cool tidbits about the games' inner workings. I've picked up a few tricks along the way, and seen how possible are some situations in which I would have thought I wouldn't have had a chance in hell. Really interesting.
Honestly, I only watch your videos when I sleep, and during end turns. Couldn't really give two fucks what you do. Also, really enjoying the Norsca campaign!
Hey legend you might know this but when I owned the CD version a exploit I knew to keep hordes from spawning in the European part of my empire was to put forts on all the river crossing on my side of the river along the Duban river. It's worth a try idk if was patched out ever. I played the eastern empire a lot back in the day and I did that shit all the time I know it worked on the CD version.
Maybe it has been already posed to you, but have you thought about doing a RTW following historical events? For instance, the Punic Wars as Carthage, losing Sicilia first and focusing on the Iberian conquest for then attacking Rome from the north, or some similar stuff? I´m new to the channel but I don´t think you have similar contents.
"The funny thing with assassins is that they cost you 200 in upkeep per turn but you can't disband them. So what do you do with them? The suicide mission shuffle!"
Im one of the ones that just fall asleep watchin your videos at night, the thing is I WANT TO WATCH IT, so the next day I watch it again, I fell asleep again and I repeat this shit for 4-5 nights until I finish ur video
How are you playing this ? When I put my old disc in it comes up please use administrator privileges so I'm locked out of medieval 2 and Rome tw, Alexander and barbarian invasion I don't have steam on my laptop or computer as it won't support it any help would be great
I dont think i have ever comment on your chanel but personally like the channel and the way is going. By the way in my opinon this older game campaigns are much better than warhammer and rome 2. Its great u have something for everyone. 🖒🖒🖒
if you take that numerius flavius guy that's sitting in caesarea out to the frontline he can help convert regions to christianity more quickly because he has some christian conversion buffs. "hear the word of the lord" trait and whatever
From an ideological standpoint i much prefer paganism to Christianity too, especially like the nordic 'Gods', because you can believe the stories and legends but when you get to the core you can imagine these 'Gods' as ancient Heroes who have been retold as omniscient beings.
Legend how do you know how far to move up your archers with out them getting caught by cav? When I move them up I lose half of the while spamming the move button to get back but they don't listen also sorry if you already answered this.
Brandxzombi636 Just pay attention and keep your main infantry line ready, or if you're like Legend let the peltasts/ skirmishers go up front to take the brunt of a charge since they're nearly useless once they're out of ammo
oH lEGeNd, I wOuLDa pReFerED iF yOu pLAyEd aS a pAGaN BeCAuSE muEhBLeHbLehBleHblEH In all seriousness though, legend played as pagan in the WRE campaign so im more than supportive of him changing things up abit
just imagine a real historic general saying, lets conquer to the edge of the map, so our back is secured against the wall...
Probably Alexander's thinking.
David Canmore
Dont think so. He was aware that the world was bigger
Well when he was starting his campaign it is said he wanted to reach the end of the world
I remember playing MTW2 for the first time and applied this strategy as Egypt.
I was wrong...
twice.

I wish I could have had that happen to me
Legend i fell asleep watching your Numidia campaign.

rekt
I absolutely love this comment. 😂😂😂 Forgot that it was under this video. Untill I heard him talking about the Numidia campaign.
Legend ❤
Ah, Barbarian Invasion, aka the orginial (and better) Total War Atilla.
LegendOfTotalWar has played so many games like this that he became a dictator. I think we should start to behave.
Big Legend is watching.
A cisgender white privilege Christian male Love him or else
Ah good. Byzantophiles of the world unite!
The Great Belisarius just bought Luttwak's book on the ERE
+SpikyKitten I hadn't heard of it before, it's added to the list. If you haven't read Ostrogorsky's history and Sicilian Vespers by Runciman both are definitely the best writings on the empire.
The Great Belisarius Ostrogoskys Book is really good. Have you read Justinians flea or Byzantine wars?
"Some of you are here to listen my voice because it helps you sleep"
Me: illuminati confirmed
26:49 so wait.... Legend considers us as his girlfriends....?
I'm fuckin down for it mate lol
the 'no homo' is implied.
or simply he considers us pus/!es.
Senpai noticed us
Oh Boy, can´t wait to watch all 189 episodes.
🤣

dragonstomper64 I saw 365 AD; wasn't the empire split in 395?
I mean, brought together by Constantine years prior?
The empire was split multiple times and Valens was appointed co-emperor by his brother Valentinian. Valens was emperor from 364 up to 378, at which point he was killed in a battle against the Goths.
Thanks.
Legend is so angry, he can make me feel attacked even when its not about me.
I play you videos in the background well playing my own total war game. it helps me.
MrDanno2 Same with me.
MrDanno2 I do that quite a bit too, even when playing games that aren't Total War. I also listen when going to sleep sometimes. I like the background noise.
One of best UA-camrs I know of, that helps me eat popcorn properly. Others make me bite my tongue.

I expect big battles against Barbarian Hordes, and I expect Legend to crush them. I`m looking forward to it.
Hahah! I'm one of the guilty ones watching your videos to go to sleep. It's the perfect length and it's always so relaxing in a weird way. Anyways looking forward to this series!
legend i would prefer you to play as pagan because of biubiubiubiubiu
Glad to see you play this campaign not many people out there cover this much. It was always one of my favorite expansions for TW games.
HMM LEGEND I WOULD HAVE PREFERRED IT SO MUCH IF YOU WENT PAGAN BECAUSE MRMRMRMRMR!!
Love playing as the Sassanids. Trainable generals is so OP, especially considering how good clibinarii immortals are.
Until someone mods the Mongols and Timurids into Barbarian Invasion
Now it's Mongotimbarbar Invasion@@sammosaurusrex

Oh man, the March 31st April Fools thing gets me too. I made one of my best videos for April Fools. "Uh, it's March 31st".
Yeah I just play your videos in the background while I do homework.
The New Caesar
same
That game is so fun compared to the others Total War. Attila was so bad.
I don't give a shit when you upload your videos as long as they're good quality, not a whole week out of place and you actually upload them
watching this in 2019 cause legend is a legend.
Watching this in 2020 as one of his veteran historical fans
Watching in 2021 because any time is a good time to start watching
I listen to your videos while going to sleep as well as when I'm at work.
Been a fan of yours for years now. I appreciate how real you are with people.
Been listening to your videos to go to sleep for 2/3 years by now, love your stuff!
hi thank you for being here i actually useing your videos for too long time for my sleeping problems but believe or not i love your work here thank you so much
I love your vids legend and not only do I watch them while I'm awake. But also while I sleep so I am doing my part.

I watch you for battles and tactics…and the fact you help me sleep is a bonus!
Nothing better than watching Legend at 23:40!! Haha
Watching Rome total war and medieval 2 total war is so much fun. Way better than these awful titles they have now
Top man. Doing what's fun, rather than what you think is "good" for the channel.
New subscriber playing Total War vicariously through yer. Cheers.
I'm only here to see legend massacre ai
That is all.

Man, the beginning of the video - right in the feels. I love you, you fucker.
You found me out Legend - I'm falling asleep as I write this.
Cheers for the campaign big man!

Guys, if you have Ad Block on, please turn it off for Legend. It is the least we can do to support the channel. It is very important!
Hmm why not play as this or that
I for one watch mostly for the apparently crazy strategies and tactics, which seem to always work. And for the cool tidbits about the games' inner workings. I`ve waited for campain like this for so loooong. Thanks Legend ;)
on behalf of all the non-dumbass viewers we feel for you. Keep up the great work and have a great day.
I'll continue to watch your whole playlists as i go to sleep
you are my go to channel for study breaks, love the rants and your tyranny hah ! thx for your work legend !
Honestly, I only watch your videos when I sleep, and during end turns. Couldn't really give two fucks what you do. Also, really enjoying the Norsca campaign!
Great videos Legend. Ive learned a lot of tips and tactics from your campaigns
I just noticed that under small unit scale, it is harder in battles because of the towers, there are less men to kill by them.
Do all spear units have a bonus against cavalry or only the ones were it stands on de description?
My primary use for fighting rebels is it's a good way to get new generals by promoting captains. Other than that, they can be a bit of a nuisance.
Legend, how the flying fuck can you manage to have so many series running at once? love your stuff man, i have been watching you for years :)
56:42
"All right, let's move on".
GRHAAAUGH
Legend playing for fun makes for his best videos.
Interestingly, Valens, your emperor, was one of the last to fight in battle. He died at the Battle of Adrianople in 378 though.
You have pressed the RUN button for the first time.I already pressed it 30000 times
Very excited for this one, if you go across the black sea and take out the roxolani, they will horde on the sasanid land
Hey legend you might know this but when I owned the CD version a exploit I knew to keep hordes from spawning in the European part of my empire was to put forts on all the river crossing on my side of the river along the Duban river. I get you legend, I can see how those comments can be frustrating, love the content!
Also I really do want to move out of america
hey Legend keep it up love your style of playing RTW
This timing for this campaign couldn't have been better
Yes! Im so happy to see a real good byzantine campaign from the old total wars! Thanks legend.
22:48 damn first time i noticed that!
Check out the Limitae, they gave space to the archers to pass O_O
legend's voice helps me deal with crippling anxiety

considering he already beat the much harder WRE campaign i'm betting this is gonna be a stomp.
this is gonna be fun
Well sir, I demand you to:
Keep up the good work with your videos! :)
I'm here for the swearing, rants, and something to sleep to.
After 5 years I am back to this playlist and again while trying to sleep 😂 legends nice voice and TW great symbiosis ❤️
Don't worry Legend we love you too
22:30 As an American I approve this message.
Im one of the ones that just fall asleep watchin your videos at night, the thing is I WANT TO WATCH IT, so the next day I watch it again, I fell asleep again and I repeat this shit for 4-5 nights until I finish ur video
Pagan Rome will always be my favourite, but Emperor Constantine saw the benefits of an empire wide monotheistic religion.
will this be like the last rome playthrough
How are you playing this ? When I put my old disc in it comes up please use administrator privileges so I'm locked out of medieval 2 and Rome tw, Alexander and barbarian invasion I don't have steam on my laptop or computer as it won't support it any help would be great

Legend, what keys in the keyboard did you you use to keep them in formation in 51:40?
Salut je suis français mais j'adore t'es vidéo 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
if you take that numerius flavius guy that's sitting in caesarea out to the frontline he can help convert regions to christianity more quickly because he has some christian conversion buffs. "hear the word of the lord" trait and whatever
nice , my favorite faction in Barbarian Invasion. Looking forward to it. Not such as a challenge as Western Empire but more enjoyable.
Do you play this campaign and those battles in 60fps?
From an ideological standpoint i much prefer paganism to Christianity too, especially like the nordic 'Gods', because you can believe the stories and legends but when you get to the core you can imagine these 'Gods' as ancient Heroes who have been retold as omniscient beings.
I think it would be nice if the rebel spawning would be correlated to public order and some randomness, maybe the culture penalty. But it isn't
New subscriber!!!!!!!!
Love this channel even the swearing is cool
Great tactics man 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Legend, how do you play on max settings and without the high shadow glitch on modern PC??
That's like best monday of my life!
(GMT +1 here)
HAHAHA to be fair I have used your videos to listen to as I go to sleep, but also watch mostly for the content. Rants are good though!
Legend destroy everyone and unite the world under the Eastern Roman Empire! #LegendIsSick
To be honest I believe in god but the funny thing is I never choose Christian as a religion in games
Legend how do you know how far to move up your archers with out them getting caught by cav? When I move them up I lose half of the while spamming the move button to get back but they don't listen also sorry if you already answered this.

Mega Gaming Thanks for the help.
No problem
Also possible you have skirmish mode on. Units with skirmish mode on tend to not listen to your orders when they're being charged.
