I agree 100%,he should of hand rotate the engine with valve cover off,to see if everything runs as it should, and hand tight won't damage the engine like the starter would.
Yeah problem is the hydraulic tensioner.... the tensioner will probably not expand and cause it to jump a tooth. In some cars you can counter clockwise the engine slightly so the chain slaps the tensioner and creates tension. Not as easy as spinning the engine like other cars. Some cars are different
Hi Milan it's definitely a very good job and you're lucky don't have no more damage on the engine But i can suggest you a problem on your procedure to install intake and exaust sprockets I have done a lot of research on this because my car (Peugeot 308) has exactly the same engire, and it's pretty sure that it's not the good procedure to put the sprocket in oil One of the main problem of this engine is that after time you loose timing on the intake and exaust camshats because it's only torque tightening and not keyed The procedure i read is that the sprockets and the face of the camshafts must be clean without oil at all and dry before installing the bolt After you can had oil as you want I hope my explanation are clear, i'm French and my English is not perfect Hope you have no problem to drive this beautiful Mini now, i follow this building and it's an incredible job
I double the Post from Damien Doc, the Camshaft-Sprockets (Vanos on Intake and normal Sprocket on Exhaust) have to be oilfree at the matingpoints. There is no Key, so Friction is the Thing that holds the SProckets in Place. You should use Breakcleaner. After the Bolts are torqued down, you can oil the Sprockets, but not before!
I'm sure you know this, but I just had the SAME bolt break on my MINI due to the vacuum pump locking up. The parts inside the pump were shiny and well lubed, but there is a very small hole that allows oil into the internals of the pump - it might be worth taking yours off and making sure the channels are clear
Awesome can't wait to see her go! If you want to force her into limp mode for the break-in period just leave the wire for the pressure sensor on the high-pressure fuel rail unplugged. That will limit the RPMs to about 3.5K and the top speed to about 110 KM/h.
Great and SUPER informative as always. My R55 still has a broken motor, so I'm living vicariously through your Mini rebuild journey. So much good info from this series!
Congrats man. NEVER doubt yourself. Your one hell of a back yard mechanic, Just remember you never learn until your elbow deep ripping something apart that you have never done before.
I’m honestly so excited for you!! I’m personally building a 1.8t motor for my VW and can’t wait till I crank it for the first time. Goodluck with your build👍🏽🙏🏽
Are you going to be replacing the hard plastic pipe coming up from the cold side of the intercooler? Theres a nasty bend in there that should be reducing flow pretty harshly
I was so gutted for you with what happened last time but so thrilled to see your positive attitude. And rightly done with the oil, filter and new parts. I wouldn't risk it after that effort. Well done! Shame I don't have Instagram. I'll just wait for your next video.
Wooo hoooo👍👍👍👍 finally Milan, I am so pleased for you mate, well done persevering with it, fingers crossed that the live stream goes well for you, well done, I am excited now 👍👍👍👍👍
Thats what its all about, Doing it right the first time so that you dont have to do it again later and create more work down the road! Keep up the good work!
To All the haters out there commenting s***, "it takes balls to show your mistakes to the world" And haters hate your guts @milan. Take those comments as motivation. They actually mean that you are doing amazing!!
1:57 because you need a special torquemeter to torque angles (eg 180°), and the tolerance is only 5% so you won't be able to do it accurate by eyeballing it.
its 5 degrees the tolerance, and on the exhaust cam bolt its 20Nm plus 90 degrees, in previous video he torqued the cam bolts to 15nm when the head was off the block, so any further tightening of the bolt is going to weaken it.
You put fresh break-in oil back in, right? Break-in oil is meant to be run for several hundred miles or even a couple thousand. The high ZDDP and moly assists in continually plating wear surfaces as they are mated together because they wear down significantly faster than normal during the first few thousand miles. If I was you, following this mishap I would fill with fresh break-in oil and a new filter (like you said you did), and I would change both out for fresh break-in oil and a new filter at 500 miles. Then let that oil go for another 1,500 miles. After 1,500 miles, put a new filter and a premium SN full synthetic and a new filter. I personally like Pennzoil Ultra Platinum because the gas-to-liquid base stock is exceptionally high quality.
Hi bro your videos so good and i want to ask you... Can I upgrade the brake in my mini cooper s r56 by fix break from JCW ( works) ?? Do I need to modification or it will direct fix???? Thanks a lot bro
I can do my own repairs IF I can find aftermarket parts that will perform better than OEM and significantly reduce future maintenance, like the Detroit tuned timing kit chain. I just think though the overall design of the engine is so Severely flawed that it’s not worth it
ok so i have a 2007 Turbo R56 and its at 102k miles i just put a new timing chain in and its been 2 months since then and now it sounds like my car is dying the engine rumbles really hard and i checked all motor mounts and they were fine any tips on what i should check it also idles at 600-800 RPM its a manual to
Don't know why you couldn't just start the mini up . Like the government is gonna come to your garage when they sixth sense you've started a vehicle without insurance and plates lol. You could've just said Im going to wait to start it fully till the next video cause I'm out of time.
Yeah, car broke, over torqued, yada, yada... Good to see some tenacity, and all that, but I wish your brother had been there when you were talking about lubing your orifices. He would have lost it. Watching you two get cracked up is so much fun. Yes, I'm a dad. Got two boys. They can be a riot, too.
Are you sure you don't have bent valves ?? And who cranks a rebuilt engine when its in the car lol you always do it by hand every time before you ever turn a key . Newbies lol
Wrong ! You need to break in the engine !!!!!!!! Frist before any drive what's wrong with you . Leave it on the stands and rev it to about 2 rpm for 20 minutes , check for leak and the like .
@Perry Elyod That's fine except they should only turn on when the engine is actually running. Starting a car is a huge load on the electrical system and there is no way to really stabilize the voltage the lights get while cranking.
Wrong. You need to drive it gently. Plus, he HAS to drive it gently because that new clutch has a break in period and it also demands gentle driving. Abusing a new clutch glazes it and it'll slip under max torque and in top gear.
I love you attitude on this whole situation, If I was you I would have freaked out when things went wrong. Love your videos
Off camera he must let it all out i bet haha
Should ALWAYS hand rotate an engine after every part is installed
I agree 100%,he should of hand rotate the engine with valve cover off,to see if everything runs as it should, and hand tight won't damage the engine like the starter would.

That sense of relief and pure joy you had when she cranked over smoothly, I felt that man. Bravo
nobody makes a mini video as clear and detailed step by step like you good man
It's suppose to be "break in oil", NOT "BREAK MY ENGINE OIL!" LOL🤣🤣🤣
SO happy to see it worked! It's been awesome to learn along side you.

1.8t engines are much better than those produced by BMW for MINI - no vanos, simpler design, etc.. Good luck, i have similar 1.8 engine in my Audi TT
Glad for you man nothing like persevering through hiccups to get to the end point💯💯💯🎉
Happy for you dude! Can’t wait to see it moving again under its own power all refreshed and improved!
Are you going to be replacing the hard plastic pipe coming up from the cold side of the intercooler? Theres a nasty bend in there that should be reducing flow pretty harshly
your love for the work shines beyond anything. you gonna go places bro. cheers.
Congrats!!! Greetings from Singapore!

Congratulations Milan..!
Looking forward to seeing this run and seeing this get a good detail? Well, that is if you can keep it still long enough to do that! :P

Is there not an upgraded camshaft for your mini cooper?

What is the beeping noise before you turned the engine over?
Its the car telling me the car is on, but engine is off.
Who will be your tunner? Do you prefer Manic or RPM power?
Awesome video
Good job bro 👌🏾 but Tyson Fury got robbed though... let’s got champ 🥊
What is it like 2 years in the making?
Milan, my friend! If you happen to pass by in Amsterdam, I'll buy you a beer :-)

I have a peugeot 207 gti and it has the same engine as yours!
Throw that out. The timing chain will break again along with everything else. I had a mini so i knkw
Fucc insurance, let it ripppppppp
Get a strong magnet and drag it through that oil you just drained out and see just how much metal was in it.
Yasss!!!!!! Almost there!!!
You always over torque something 😂
Maybe you put another torque
I'm a lil jellynose it's taking me two weeks to rebuild the suspension and brakes on my Honda. You must have some help admit it.
took you this long to figure it out
Are you sure you don't have bent valves ?? And who cranks a rebuilt engine when its in the car lol you always do it by hand every time before you ever turn a key . Newbies lol

Fake! The real startup happened at 3am on Sunday XD
Fuck yea!!!!
Just skip to 1:45
Why the hell does cranking it turn the headlights on?
Nothing makes sense when it comes to BMW.
@Perry Elyod That's fine except they should only turn on when the engine is actually running. Starting a car is a huge load on the electrical system and there is no way to really stabilize the voltage the lights get while cranking.
You’re first 20 miles you should drive it like you stole it. Need to load the piston rings.
Wrong. You need to drive it gently. Plus, he HAS to drive it gently because that new clutch has a break in period and it also demands gentle driving. Abusing a new clutch glazes it and it'll slip under max torque and in top gear.
I’m not talking about skipping the clutch the whole time, but the rings should be put under pressure.
Besides, which would you rather replace? The clutch or the piston rings?
Its a Mini.... everything is going to break on it
Please don't do an Instagram live video because internet here in Egypt is horrible.
