The Indian diaspora is always talked about in terms of our IT engineers, our CEOs. Less is talked about our medical doctors, research scientists, biotech researchers, management experts from IIMs, experts in Finance, Banking etc. A major part of the diaspora in the USA are the motel owners, the small hotel owners having businesses on highways, in smaller towns. Some own grocery stores, Indian food joints in malls etc. In theis regard, the Patel community of Gujarat is especially known for establishing a chain of motels and small hotels along the highways in the USA. They established India grocery stores which quickly became popular among the NRI community which missed Indian cooking ingredients, food stuff, fruits & vegetables, dry packaged snacks and such other items typically found in India. Today there is nothing that is found in India, which is not on the shelves of these stores in the USA, especially where the Indian diaspora is in majority like New York, New Jersey etc. In the 80's when practically one member of every Patel family was found to have legally migrated to the USA and set up another link in the chain of motels, they were nocknamed 'hotel, motel, Potel' by the Americans teavelling on Highways.
Point us. Indians find a niche, a vacuum in any space - intellectual or geographical and work towards filling it up with their hard work, efficiency, giving value for money in terms if service, quality & quantity of output, doing their work honestly, being friendly and integrating with the locals. They maintain their distinct identity, customs, practice their religion peacefully at home and in their temples, Gurudwaras rtc. They do not become a nuisance to Society. In fact they contribute honestly and considerably to the economies of their adopted country. If at all any criminals of Indian origin are in any jail in the USA, they must be a miniscule %.

Totally agree. More emphasis and motivation needs to be given to the businesses, R&D and Science. We have a mentality of working for someone instead of working for ourself. I would be happy when we have our own Microsoft or Apple or Google instead someone of Indian origin becoming a CEO.
No doubt, Indians abroad are spreading Indianness in a subtle manner without taking recourse to crimes & camouflaging hatred in their places of worships.
