This is tempo is exactly what'd you expect to be used in actual battles too. War musical instruments are an important part of battlefield communications. It can set or break the set battlelines of a fight depending on what the music tries to convey
Adama: "Starbuck, Galactica! Starbuck, Galactica, what do you hear?!" Starbuck: "Nothin' but the rain!" Adama: "Hint: grab the gun and bring the cat in." Starbuck: "Aye aye sir!"
What I love about most of the music from battlestar, and particularly the battle scenes is how it conveys urgency and most of all escalation. A real feeling that the battle is unfolding and becoming ever more urgent and intense as more weapons get in range. Only in the orginal Star Wars films have I ever been on the edge of my seat like that before.
"I've never seen anything like this." [notices two newly advanced Cylon Raiders right above him in attack formation] "There's no cockpits.... Nobody's flying these things." [the advanced Cylon Raiders fire multiple missiles at him and his squadron] "Oh... God!" --- Major Jackson 'Dipper' Spencer, Galactica CAG upon seeing the new advanced Cylon Raiders shortly before he is killed in action
Music is as intense as the battles themselves, which, unlike Star Wars, actually feel more scientifically plausible as far as deep space physics are concerned. They are also entertaining to watch for me because I cared about the characters deeply, respecting them as if they are actually collectively our ancestors in a fan fiction universe.
Of course star wars is not possible, its a goddamn sci-fantasy, can't blame them, it would be a long way for humanity come that far, perhaps a few millenia
Ominous. Urgent. Insistent. Dangerous. Compelling. Exciting, Pathos. Describes the music and the entire series. Don't worry, fans will never stop saying "Frak you, Gaius- Frakkin-Baltar!!"

I think Bear worked on the mini series before taking over sole composer duties for the TV series. He worked with Gibbs. I've been trying to figure who did what. I like to know these things, but at the end of the day whoever put the Galactica music together is a damn genius. So say we all!
That battle music gets me so damn pumped every time I watch the show! I haven't watched the whole thing though. On my last 5-7 episodes before I'm done!
the drum beat is almost like the core for all the battle scores that followed in the series. Bear McCreary did a good job emulating Gibbs and added more spice to the style.
"..do you want some toast? ..a toasted bagel perhaps, ..how about a crumpet? please, I was built to toast, ..I toast therefore I am!" [opps, wrong sci-fi series character...]
@gptvproductions According to Gibbs Commentary in the Booklet: "He (McCreary) did a great job interpolating my Themes and in particular nailed the percussive writing, while I was concentrating on themes and logistics." So, basically, Bear already worked with those Taiko-Drums then and thats the sound that carried over to the Series.

This one? The Drums start just after one minute, its the opening sequence music when we see Galactica for the first time: ua-cam.com/video/25Ob7RWF-A8/v-deo.html
It's generic, I can't place it in any moment in BSG, whereas, I can name the time and place of any McCreay song.... but I didn't see the original mini series thingy.
Fun fact was supposed to be replaced with action orchestra but the creators loved it so much they kept it
Goddamn glad they did, because this was fucking perfection.
I need someone to do a proper animation of USS Washington vs IJN Kirishima to this song.

I love the irregularity of this the best. It keeps a tight theme but it is simultaneously chaotic and disturbed, like battle.

except everyone is still walking around like there is gravity in the ships...
Except for the contrails when missiles are launched in space. Contrails need air to form.

For a moment I legit thought you were talking like a Hybrid. And that scared the frak out of me xD
“Signal Vipers: engage fighters only, leave the Basestars to us. Execute.”

We cant go toe toe to toe with these big ships......"retract the pods"!!!
damn Richard, had me on my knees for half this song, I dropped my cigarette. You need voice. Mozart is an artist. McCreary entertains.

Time for us to kick some Toaster arses for the Lords!

this music reminds me of Troy! This some type 'o' sparing freggen sword fighting music!
The Storm and the Dead is one of the best tracks from the miniseries. McCreary wrote a track that has motifs from it called Deathbed and Maelstrom.
"Enemy suppression barrage, execute."
best music ever.
So minimalistic compared to the music later in the series...

Best song in the series
@Spartanz1170 Yeah, great percussive thingies on that one.

@gptvproductions Old news, but there is alot of Richard in the beginning, and I'm listening. And I don't know what the sitrep is but Bear is listening.
@solidus927 Was Richards drums first, but I agree, Bear added style, Like John Carter on Mars.
The drums were supposed to he replaced rith electric music but the director loved it so much they never replaced it
Where the hell did you learn that?
Ryan Marra IMDB and a behind the scenes for deadlock
Good thing, i thought the music in this series was amazing and fit in with every fight
Thank the Gods that they didn't change it....guitar riffs would have ruined these tracks IMO.
sounds like when Neo learned Kung Fu
@AnimePrayer Longer than I could pay attention for...
Wonder if this is on Spotify?
@kuribayashi84 What you gonna do? Well, I want to see Richard play the Accordian...
@Talon3000 What are you talking about this music is awesome, just as good as the stuff from Bear IMO.
Richard, I'll talk to Eddie about this... he knows. It is all parralax.
Richard neber heard the word 'frakin'.

Anybody know the name of the song with the drum beats in the miniseries? Been searching for years and it's driving me fraking nuts

Yes. Thank you
You think Gibbs says "Best frackin show in the universe" "Edde Olmos" It's just music to him.
Well, I listen to Gibbs, that's all me...LOL
