      I think it's worsened by the fact that so many people don't have boundaries for themselves and they almost feel like they HAVE to share things. Like people will get a life-altering diagnosis and get home and go on camera, sobbing telling the world they have a condition. No time to process. No time to cope. They almost feel like they have to. So how dare you, a person with more eyes on you, not be just as exposed or withdraw access. It's kind of demented.

    Celebrities in public spaces are OFF THE CLOCK and should be left alone. Meet and Greets are where fans can ask for and expect to take a picture with them.
    Edit: the way, people are over-policing Jackie Aina's actions is disgusting and typical. The standards for a Black influencer are so much higher for the standards for a w. one.

      That part. I try to think of it like this: if you work for UPS and I happen to see you in public, I'm not going to ask you about my package...because you're NOT AT WORK.

    I've lived in SoCal (LA and OC) most of my life, and hate approaching celebrities. It makes me feel so awkward and nervous. If it's someone I really like, I'll smile and do a quick heart-hands 🫶, just to show appreciation, then keep it moving. Conventions and other social/interactive settings are more appropriate to take a bit of someone's time.

    I posted on BGC asking why people continue to buy Jaclyn Hill’s products and supporting her and got ripped to shreds, told that I’m beating a “dead horse” and was accused of karma farming when I didn’t even know what that was. It’s disappointing but not surprising that people continue to post about Jackie Aina and the reactions are mostly dogpiling on her and not accusing posters of “karma farming.” I haven’t watched her content in a long time but seeing the hate and not so subtle racism she gets is so uncalled for and upsetting.

My friend and I were sitting in the front and I was facing the door and made eye contact and she had that "oh no pleeease be normal" look on her face (she was with her husband and baby) so I just smiled and she smiled back and continued walking to the back of the restaurant where there were more tables.

    Watching this conversation unfold on the internet reminds of how when I was a teen in the mid to late 2000s I did not respect the boundaries of celebrities/musicians; especially when it came to online interactions. Looking back now, it was so so cringey and I'm glad I've come to a point where I never want meet any celebrities or musicians I like (outside of going to see them perform); not even at meet and greets.
    I will say for these pop artists, especially ones that have the tween - teen girl fanbase, that Labels (not the artists but the corporations) encourage these kinds of behaviour. From the Jonas Brothers to One Direction, the labels push the idea that these girls have a shot at dating/being with these artists when in reality no self-respecting non-predatory artist would date a fan. People fall in love with the idea of the celebrity not the actual human behind the mask.

I wouldn't want someone to interrupt when I'm just trying to enjoy a meal with someone, why would I do that to someone else? I'm not entitled to their time or attention. Just leave people be. I think it is so sad that there are people out there who are so absorbed with hating other people. I can’t imagine spending hours a week-or even hours every day-watching content I hate and obsessing over people I hate. As much as I have a problem with the ‘echo chamber’ effect of social media-that could be seen as an advantage. You don’t like it? Don’t watch it! You’re literally letting that person & content live in your head, rent-free. Go back to your echo chamber. (And the even sadder part is that its not like they’re going to become more open-minded or start critical thinking by constantly watching content from creators whose race/ethnicity/religion/worldview/politics/gender identity/etc/etc is different than theirs; they’re just gonna keep spreading their misery and hatred and trying to drag others down with them). Thank you for this video, came to you from JenLuv and I can totally see how you’re such a voice of wisdom in her life.

    Before social media, Montana had a very interesting celeb culture. If we treated them like everyone else, everything is cool. I once sat next to Batman Beetlejuice for hours in a bar. We spoke like normal strangers involved in other conversations, “excuse me,” “can you grab me a napkin?” Normal randos who weren’t even rich could find themselves friends with celebs if they acted regular. Altho, I did get into an argument with a coworker in Bozeman, who blamed her incompetence on the fact that she wasn’t used to working hard & bragged to me that she partied with Michael Keaton. I got to say, “oh for heavens sake, everyone in Montana has partied with him! I spent a whole day at the roadkill sitting with Michael getting hammered!” Which was just coincidence & very misleading but omg the look on her face. I was absolutely delighted !

    • @kh-c8453
      @kh-c8453 19 днів тому +2

      If I'm remembering my reading correctly, feeling connected to celebrity when you meet them in person has to do with evolutionary psychology. As hunter/gatherers we only ever knew around 150 people well (the maximum size of a "band" of hunter/gatherers). Anyone we didn't recognize was a stranger. We're still very much living in those bodies and when we see people we recognize, we automatically think we know them or have some sort of connection with them--because our caveperson brain is telling us that they're one of our band because we know their face. Not sure if that explains the stalking and reading all the gossip about their lives, but I think its a good explanation for parasocial relationships.

People will say : oh, I stopped following this creator 5 years ago and have not watched anything since then, and then they will go on a rant and explain everything they think the creator did wrong. If you have not watched in 5 years, you do not have enough data to express your opinion. Sometimes people change and you don’t know if they did. People are just nasty on Reddit and I don’t call them out because I don’t want to deal with their reaction (I am lazy…)

    I. Don't. Get. It. These people are being so weird and unhinged. If a celeb/creator has 10 fans, or 10 million fans, each fan has their own vision and expectation of how the celeb is supposed to act/react to every single interaction in their day. No matter what, they're disappointing someone, and that's so weird to me. You please some, you piss of more, and there's no way to win. So maybe, just maybe, these people need to figure out a way to realize the celeb they supposedly adore is a human being, not a SIMS character? It's so weird to be like oh, you wanna be famous? Ok, well, then society gets to stalk and doxx your family and harass you constantly because WE deserve it. GTFO with that nonsense.

The platform allows white people to dunk on black actors/films/etc. People who keep coming back to EVERY episode of, say, Star Trek Discovery, and talk about Ms. Green "whispering" and be a horrible actress. If you hated it sooo much, why are you making sure to post 1 or 2 star reviews on every single episode over many years? It's ridiculous.
