IS LEMON PLEDGE THE ULTIMATE SXS CLEANER? SC1 VS. PLEDGE DETAILING CHALLENGE | SXS | UTV | ATV

  • I have read and been told by many people that lemon Pledge is the ultimate SXS cleaner for detailing your SXS or Off-road vehicle. I decided to test lemon Pledge against my favorite SXS detailing product (SC1) to see how well each cleaner performed and find out if I could be saving $10 per SXS cleaning.

    I learned about usimg pledge on motorcycles decades ago.
    I am told dust and light dirts stick to SC1 but not the Pledge
    I shammy off the water 1st.
    For everyday use I prefer the Pledge due to the results and lower cost.
    But might use SC1 if I was a UA-camr.

    Try using P&S bead maker for a dry aid. When you rinse after a wash, spray that all over them dry. Very hydrophobic and helps with spots. Easy to apply. Really you can rinse, spray that all over, and rinse again if you don’t usually dry. You will still benefit from it. Also a cheap alternative to a dry aid is turtle wax seal and shine.

    • @FilthyKnobsOffRoad
      @FilthyKnobsOffRoad  2 роки тому +1

      @@FilthyKnobsOffRoad they will still show, but like any coating or sealant you will have almost a layer there that will release the hard water spots easier. I’ve never noticed mud stains at all with either yet. I have noticed that if you accidentally spray some on the tires it will pick up dirt and have a brown tint. Awesome! we ride from Houghton Lake to Traverse City a lot. I Wash the Inside pretty much the same way. I pressure wash the entire inside including gauges, switches, shifters, all of it. I do try not to spray up real close but I still spray it down pretty good. Then I use SC1 on everything on the interior except for the steering wheel. I pressure wash the seats as well. They really don't soak up much water. I usually leave them dry for a few hours and they are fine. The aftermarket harnesses that I have are really nice and padded but they soak up a ton of water when washing my machine. Good info on this Video. I'm surprised at the results but it is too obvious to ignore. I do have a question though: I find that putting anything on my machine just creates an oily place for dirt and dust to collect on. Then it really does look atrocious for sure.

    • @FilthyKnobsOffRoad
      @FilthyKnobsOffRoad  Рік тому +1

      SC1 continues to hide dust as you are riding. If you get into some real dirt and dust it does seem to collect more dirt but if you use SC1 continually when you clean your sxs it makes the dirt spray off much easier. My machine never looks real clean after I start riding but I like to put it away fairly clean and I like to have it clean when I arrive to a ride. I don’t really notice any issue with collecting dust while the machine is sitting.

    • @jakeparry6172
      @jakeparry6172 Рік тому

      The trick is getting your rig super clean before applying SC1. I usually spray SC1 and let it sit for a few mins before wiping so it gets time to seep into the plastics. SC1 might collect a little dust but it’s much easier to clean off. Essentially the SC1 make a barrier from mud and dust. Also after washing use a leaf blower and towel to dry. That will help chase those water spot off as well.

It includes a soap injection circuit and you can get water above 212f if you want. I usually stay around 200f. The machine is bigger than say a Ryobi but it's super industrial and with a little care should last forever. The hot water does a much better job at cleaning everything from mud, oil, etc. I bought mine for $250 back in 2010 and she's still going strong. The only thing to watch out for is leaving water in the heating coil during freezing conditions. I installed a ball valve and blow a little compressed air through to prevent the coil from cracking from freezing water.

    Lemon pledge is petroleum based. Have you ever used petroleum based tire shining sprays? They look great at first but after about a week the tires turn hideously grey. I’d use caution on things that are plastic(as plastic is petroleum based).

      Yeah. I do hate how tire shine makes tires look after a few days. I don't really plan on going using Pledge any more. I didn't notice any dulling but there are quite a few cleaners that work better.

    it doesn't have to be pledge, try a cheap spray wood furniture polish with beeswax, if you wipe it off with one cloth and use a second cloth to polish it straight afterwards the streaks wont happen. if you cant get rid of the streaks wipe it over with a damp cloth before polishing to a shine. another cause of streaks is using to much pledge, a little goes a very long way.

    • @FilthyKnobsOffRoad
      @FilthyKnobsOffRoad  2 роки тому

      I absolutely love my yxz. The ability to shift gears makes it a blast to drive in the trails and dunes. It’s not great at rock crawling, mud bogging or going real slow in general. It’s has been an extremely reliable machine and it can really take some abuse. I was torn between the yxz and an X3 when I was shopping for a sxs. The x3 new was going to cost me $34,000 for the machine and the aftermarket Radius rods, shock tower braces and various mods to make the x3 as reliable as I want it to be. The yxz cost me about half of that price.I just didn’t feel like the x3 was going to be double the fun for double the price. Plus I didn’t want to worry about watching belt temps and changing belts. Ultimately I love the yxz but I still find myself wanting an X3 for more suspension travel and a factory turbo for more acceleration for hill climbs and jumping. The x3 is an all around more capable machine. I would probably hold onto it. You can make the yxz extremely fast but even with a long travel kit it’s never going to ride or jump as well as an x3 in my opinion.

      @FilthyKnobsOffRoad  11 місяців тому +1

      I’ve never noticed either attracting dirt honestly but when I take the SXS out I know it’s going to get dirty so I don’t really pay attention. I do notice SC1 has a greasy feel for a while so that might cause it to hold onto some dirt. I notice that SC1 does absorb and hide some dust. you don’t notice dust on the machine if it sits for a few weeks. I don’t say it but in my review a lot of my focus was on how each performed on faded black plastics and how easy it was to wash dirt off the machine. SC1 was definitely better for those things. I think probably SC1 is best if you want the machine to look it’s absolute best, if you’re selling it or if you don’t have a ton of time for cleaning. Pledge works really well if you are trying to clean up the machine for cheap and may be better if you want to keep it clean during a ride like you said to fling the dirt off. Neither did a bad job. I will try to find the wood type pledge and give that a try. Thanks!
