    Well, I think you are spot on. When UA-cam becomes a “business”, the content is compromised. Honestly is the best policy for sure. Great video Frank!

      @@OneOldManRiding I get it, I feel the same way. I suck at reviews, but I’m not doing one if I’m told what to say. I have a video talking about the Carpuride coming soon, but it’s my opinion on something I paid for. No compensation whatsoever.

    Yep, that sums it up perfectly, and it’s a shame that there seems to be fewer and fewer channels on UA-cam for almost all genres that aren’t influenced by some type of graft, whether monetary or access related. I am a photographer and the photography business is even worse.

    For the record, the air filter is under the tank on the V-Strom 1050. That sucks! No sugar coating on that. Other than that, it’s a great bike!

    This is bigdave. Im on my work account. But I agree with you completely. I have seen so many channels I started out really enjoying slowly creep into infomercials etc. A couple who were admitted beginners 1 to 2 yrs ago suddenly playing the expert and pimping products. One has changed bikes 3 times in 13 mos. And of course each new one is a different brand and is way better supposedly than the one before. I caught one in several untruths. Saying the latest bike had more ground clearance etc etc than the prior when this was nowhere near correct.

    Rant over 😂 Very valid points Frank. I've seen the same on the tech side from channels with millions of subscribers. Mr. Marcus for example. Way less critical conversation and more why you need to buy it. I think part of it could also be that they used to review and be critical of everything they can get their hands on but now… That they have access to anything they want... they might only choose the things that they know will be good. And… Not necessarily review those things that have not so good qualities. I do know that some of those channels used to refuse free goods so they could say that they purchased them and could objectively say anything they wanted to about them. I do believe that has changed recently, and some of those creators are getting free goods and therefore I do think that they might feel a little loyalty to the company when it comes to the not so desirable parts of those products, I do see that there is a fine line.

      Hello Kyle, it does seem recent. I wonder if sagging sales has led to more marketing, more money hitting channels. You're a good example of what I like to see. Yes, you have sponsored products. However, you show me how you use the products. You show me a spent tire, and how long it took, and the terrain. You show me a child can use the Rabaconda and change a tire. (I hope the California Dept, of Labor does not watch your channel!), and you have told me straight up in videos "This product will not work well for this type of rider." I appreciate that kind of content. - Frank

    Yep, it happens to most big UA-cam channels at some point... and that's when they lose a LOT of viewers. And it's not just motorcycle content. Can't piss off the sponsors!
    This is why I don't trust any one reviewer wholeheartedly - I watch multiple reviews of something before I buy it. If I do a review of something, I'll be as fair as possible, without downplaying negatives.

    • @OneOldManRiding
      @OneOldManRiding  3 місяці тому +1

      Hello RR, I agree with your idea of more than one review. That said, suspiciously, many are using the same words to say the same thing... Talking points if you will.
      I am just looking for guys who have owned a bike for reviews now! - Frank

      @@OneOldManRiding Good call - the people that OWN something aren't going to go off the press release bullet points - and bonus points if they bought it themselves.
      That said, if multiple YT channels "review" a product and go over the same stuff - chances are it's a sponsored video [whether they marked it as Sponsored or not] and they're being told what to say.

  • @cpuuk
    @cpuuk 3 місяці тому +1

    It's a bit like "never meet your heroes" (don't look too closely): All channels eventually settle into a money focussed beat (subscribe\ like). We're all grown-ups, we know how this works, so always have that salt shaker at the ready. Personally I take any channel as more of guideline than a rule.
    Yes, I've heard the exact same lines on different reviews, so I know the OEM has paid them to say the lines, because they are usually so unnatural that no one except Marketing would say those words. And yup, at that point trust is lost in the reviewer and the product.
    My pet peeve is claiming a new bike is absolutely great, then 6-12 months later they tear it a new one.

    How dare you think about honesty.
    I give you credit, when your having problems with your bike your let us know. Everyone wants the manufacturers to like the reviews so the get free stuff.
    The truth always comes out and they just ignore the problems.
    That is an evil path that will get them in the end.
